Okuma used to make rebranded reels for several reel companies/stores. That was actually their pitch when they started selling their brand: "You've probably already been using our reels!" It is a little ironic.

I think they all do a decent job of matching feature sets and price points to what the market desires. Sometimes, there's a singleton that doesn't add up.

I'd be surprised that any of the rebranded Doyo/Banax/other had any design input other than specifying a bearing grade or main gear material. Maybe knob design, since those are somewhat unique.

I'd rather be in the Xpress than the Bullet on Erie. That's why I had both boats when I was doing the TX thing. Choose your craft wisely.

Not too much from Diana lately turns my screws. A couple reels are sweet, but most are meh to me. Their heyday was the mid 2000s. Then again, o feel the same about most other companies.

I've never considered resale when it comes to hobby purchases. Buy cheap and buy twice, maybe even three times. I've never owned a Lew's, though I'm sure they're nice. They don't turn my screws at all.

I had a H18. It was pretty heavy, but still would wander in a strong head wind. Manageable with just an 80 lb troller.

One of the best drop shotters I know uses an improved cinch knot. Goes to show, you don't 100% have to use a Palomar.

I've used that knot since the 80s, as a teen.
