  1. You kind have to do this, because it takes so much time. Curious - what knot do you use? I know if I attach the hook to the main line first, I use a Palomar, but if they're pre-tied, I use a Uni. They are a cool idea, I just stopped using them, since it was easier to tie up the traditional way, and faster, for me.
  2. The issue isn't breaking off, it's the line digging into itself on the spool.
  3. Get stuck on the back of a boat with a guy that works dock line like Mario Andretti, and you'll learn some weird casts, or be out of luck on targets!
  4. One line is RARELY the answer! All that means to me is that there are two people that like the same product. Nothing wrong with that, and it's good line, but what if that doesn't solve the OP's issue? Are you both wrong? Does the line suck? Probably a huge 'NO!" to both. Sunline FX2 will dig, just like every other brand of braid.
  5. I was too lazy this morning, but was running a particularly long build, so.... Like most things that are part art, part science, and part luck - there ain't no absolutes! Dig deeper, and you'll realize why and how an opinion is formed. It's one of the key takeaways I have from modding here for nearly a decade.
  6. I use two handed cast that range from a wrist flip, to a chuck and duck bomb, and everything in between. Remember, that video is a fail safe starting point. It's up to you to continue to practice, and develop your own "style." And by practice, I mean make lots of fishing trips!
  7. 80 still digs a bit. It's the nature of the beast. After a while, I'll "repack" the spool, reeling in the bait, hold the line with a towel and pressure to get a tightly packed spool.
  8. See my comments in red. I think just like there a lot of misconceptions with fluorocarbon, there are just as many with braid. I would prefer NOT to use braid, though it's on roughly half my casting rigs, and two spinning rigs. It is definitely a necessary tool for my fishing, but not the salvo many claim it to be.
  9. This is sort of a separate discussion, but I think in some ways, the fear is reinforced when crank bait get "swatted" and the fish is barely skin hooked outside the mouth. We've all caught and landed a few like that, and I wonder if that's the what gets interpreted as the sensation of pulling hooks free? It's important to note that I use different hooksets for trebles, wacky/drop shot/other open finesse, and jigs and worms. But I do "pop them" every time.
  10. Be sure to look at the SC Mojo Series as well. The Eyecon line is designed with walleye fishing in mind, though I do like my Eyecon 6-3 MLXF and 6-8 MXF spinning rods - mainly for the handle.
  11. I live on the Great Lakes, and you screw up on the water, you have the Coast Guard, Immigration, Sheriff, DEC, and possibly the local FD - since many also have patrol/fire boats - to contend with. It is serious. I'm all for having fun on the water - heck, I have a 80 mph bass boat, and have owned jet skis - but not when you sacrifice the safety of others. Good to hear you followed up.
  12. So, an 8' pole goes all the down in 4' of water? Sounds like you're anchoring very soft silt. That won't hold anything.
  13. I use a no stretch, coated line, not braid. Behaves pretty close to mono, but with added strength and no scratch: Supercast. Did I mention it floats and will not become water logged?
  14. Like me and the drop shot....;)
  15. That'll change in your 40s.....heh.
  16. Even the little guys will pull you around... .
  17. I'm pretty snobby when it comes to beer and wine, though I do enjoy the simple pleasure of a clean, light beer after hard work in the yard on a hot day.
  18. I think the whole ripping out trebles thing is internet bologna. I would recommend a medium power rod, though if you went with a no stretch line. If you like no stretch line, I prefer Tuf-Line Supercast above all others.
  19. My take is that they do not have garages long enough for a traditional bass boat. These aren't mod-v or deep-v hulls either. They appear to be pad hulls. While my 15' Sea Nymph deep-v was perfectly suited for the Great Lakes, even in rough water, these would get eaten up.
  20. Braid sucks with topwater for me. ESPECIALLY anything with a prop or rotating blade.
  21. I generally retie after EVERY fish.
  22. I actually hit a jet ski in my Bullet. Luckily, no one was hurt, just a scuff on the boat. Chased the kid all the way home to let his parents know what happened. He was promptly "land-locked."
  23. You gotta work on that, if you're having issues with bass. I mainly seek out northern pike in my kayak, and yes, they will drag you around. If they want to go down, I let them. If they want to go away from the boat, I lock down on them, and make them drag the kayak, unless they are leading me to some overhanging trees, which happens sometimes. A long anchor line and trolley, or a leash and a brush clip can go a long way to keeping in place, and let you concentrate on getting the fish in the boat.
