  1. I've used both since my second baitcaster. It doesn't matter, it's what you prefer, and what you're willing to learn.
  2. Genetics play less a part than food and habitat.
  3. Trolling? I'd rather use a floating bait, but drifting, yeah any favorite suspended will do. Cast, reel down to depth, and drop the rod in a holder while you fish some other bait.
  4. It's like asking what the best worm is. A Mini Slammer, Hudd 68, and a Hard Gill would be a hard to beat start. You wouldn't need some outrageous custom outfit to cast them either.
  5. Since they thrive in water with low oxygen, my bet is your creeks are just providing what they can. Sounds like either your creek is the problem or the solution, depending on hoe you look at it.
  6. Try targeting the live ones - there's a lot more to sink your hooks into than bones.
  7. I disagree with the no functionality part, though a foregrip is not required. There's tines when I appreciate it.
  8. I actually broke a Dobyns DX 746 and used that rod the rest of day, in a TX early last fall. and I felt like it handled the slip and heavy visits much better.
  9. The Lunker Club was a joke. You'd see Dwight in there ocassionally, with an honest weight, and a bunch of shmoes dangling nice 5-6 lb. fish claiming DDs.
  10. Yep. ^^
  11. I can probably come up with a complicated formula, but the reality is that it's determined by my mood and what's in my tackle box.

  13. My flipping stick is a moderate action, but no way would I fish a crank with it. Not sure why you'd need it for better hooksets. Sounds like your fishing dull hooks.
  14. It is a coal shovel. I know because I have one, and they are EXCELLENT for shoveling chunks of ice from thawing and re freezing. This type, a pusher, and a typical scooper are all required tools for snow removal beyond a typical southern dusting. A flat ice chipper helps too.
  15. Watch out for werebass!
  16. Most decent fly reels aren't affected by submersion, unless it's below freezing.
  17. Whatever, you took a day off. I was on my roof chiseling the 6" of ice that covered it to prevent leaking. That was AFTER I worked all day. The south is soft. Lol.
  18. What the hell is that a picture of? The mounds of snow beside my driveway are taller than my truck, lol. We don't even bat an eye at snow like that up here.
  19. I don't really know - learned the Alberto and never looked back.
  20. I think we all obsess over the same one - the next one!
  21. Here's my take. I use both, and I like casting for mid to heavy stuff, spinning for the light stuff. Casting for line over 8#, spinning for below. Yeah, there's specialist gear, if you want to get technical, but that is the break down in a nut shell. There's a handful of guys here that do spinning only, and will tell you don't need to use casting. There's also a few that use casting only. All the rest either use both or want to get started with casting. Pick your group - no one has the right answer.
