  1. I have 20# 832 on a spinning rig. No issues with fraying or break offs, but I do find you have to be very fastidious with connection knots. I get a few more wind knots than I recall with similar size Power Pro, though the past season was windier than most. Overall, I like the line. I landed my biggest fish of last year on that rig, a 7-1 LMB. It was a feisty, springtime fish that made three drag stripping runs before I got her in the net.

Time for a part time job at a tackle shop!
  3. Anyone that uses the Magic Eraser will likely never go back to any other method. Seriously. For sanding, 220g is fine. Mask off and reels seats, winding checks, etc. Seal with U-40 Cork Sealer. One coat is plenty.

Not the avatar, but the user name. It's a preview for that person's profile. The number is how many of that person's posts have been "liked" by others.
  5. But it's not semi auto. I think my Ithaca holds more than 7.
  6. So, since this is a pump action, it's kosher, right? http://www.keltecweapons.com/news/preview-kel-tec-shotgun-ksg/
  7. Frog Toggs in the boat for emergencies, but when I know I'll be in the rain, I have a Marmot waterproof shell, and a pair of old Guidewear bibs.
  8. I'd get a buffer, and polish it as best as you can. Then keep hitting it with BTS (http://www.btsproducts.com/) and keep it covered when not in use to stop any more UV fading. Gel coat repair is not cheap....
  9. I love a good tin boat. I've gotten through some "interesting" cover in my Xpress.
  10. You talking about that 391 in the other thread? Nice boat, but it's more like 19', and probably pulls about 45-50 with the 4 blader. I can run that in 2-3' rollers no problem. 1' chop is where I can really get the most top end speed. Contrary to popular belief, you get more speed in a little chop. That said, your back will be in better shape when you catch up to me, heh. Though, the ride on this Bullet is MUCH better than on my 18' Xpress.
  11. I've only ever hear theory, never had braid tied to a drilled spool slip on my reels, nor have I ever seen or heard of it from anyone else. Only posts on forums claiming it *could* happen.
  12. Can someone help me out with the definition here? What do they mean here?
  13. My 21' Bullet can handle some pretty rough stuff. I fish Ontario and Erie all the time. Been out in some nasty stuff. The 21XDC is nothing like the lighter 20' competition hulls. Plus, it outruns most anything. Not saying it's gonna outrun a Skeeter in 6' waves (no one should be out in that in a bass boat, lol), but to say it can't handle rough water isn't true at all.
  14. This is veering off the topic, but....Carbontex are an upgrade even to the OE carbon fiber washers on Pure Fishing brands. The OE washers don't have the same durability as Smooth Drags Carbontex. Bench tests have confirmed that to me. That oft cited "24 lbs." drag resistance is more like 13-14 lbs. once broken in - which is plenty for bass fishing, but begs the question if they get any worse with time. That said, I haven't run into any reel that had a "bad" drag per se, but adding a $5-$8 upgrade is one of the most worthwhile upgrades you can do. In colder temps, running a dry Carbontex setup is much more stable than a traditional Dartanium or felt and grease setup. The dry setup is unaffected by freezing temps.
  15. I have two USDM Zillion 7.1's, and a JDM Zillion 7.1:1. I also have three Chronarch e7's. Honestly, they both pitch fine, and I might give a nod to the Chronarchs and their centrifugal brakes on this, since I'm not sure the Mag-V brakes are even activated at pitching spool speeds. The retrieve, reengagement, and sheer casting distance is a bit better with the Zillion. You can set the spool tension to almost nothing, and brakes on 6 or 7 and wail on the cast, only havng your thumb touch the spool when the bait hits the water. The Zillion has a narrower profile than 200 e series reels. It's heavier than the Cores, but on a proper balanced rod, it's unnoticeable. Both the e Series and Zillions are built like tanks, with really well engineered internals that will last a long time, with proper maintenance.
  16. The origin of manufacture should be on the package somewhere. If someone has a bag, take a look closely, and post.
  17. Unless it's fresh spool of braid with some "body," it fouls too easily in the trebles of walk the dog, spook type baits. I prefer 10-12# CXX for these. For hollow, weedless frogs, braid is a great choice.
  18. The 14# mono equivalent diameter of 65# braid makes for an easy transition on casting gear, if you've never used braid before. It's overkill as far as actual breaking strength, but it's very forgiving when it comes to line management and knot tying. I like 65# for punching, frogging, and big jigs.
  19. Those old 300 series hulls are like a tank. As long as the hull is solid, and the motor is straight, you should be in business.
  20. The difference in spool size between Shimano 2500 and 3000 is simply depth. They are same length and diameter. The 3000 is simply deeper, with a smaller arbor.
  21. I'll second the SC votes, and add this to the mix: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/pinnacle-DHC5-performa-review.html
  22. A 7.1:1 Zillion is almost 32"/turn. The Daiwa T3 8.1:1 is 34"/turn.
  23. I don't feel any difference fighting a fish, or getting a hookset in, regardless of ratio, or IPT. The only time it has ever mattered to me is deep, vertical drop shot for smallies. They tend to run strait up, faster than any high speed reel. Otherwise, it's only a convenience when you DON'T get bit,and you want to get your bait in fast to make another cast.
  24. No one actively moderated your posts, but there is an auto filter in place. You didn't do anything wrong. Some sites that are notorious spammers, or have had users register their account for the sole purpose of promoting are included in that auto filter. Unfortunately, just a few have made things inconvenient for many. You can generally use an acronym, or abbreviation to get your point across in discussion. it isn't that they are off limits, just link backs.
