  1. For deep drop shot, I strongly recommend you look at the gear ratio/IPT in the spec sheets. You want to be able to keep up with a fish rushing to the surface, as they often do. All reels at that price point have good drags. A 2500 or 3000 series reel should be fine.
  2. Contact Mike at DVT: http://www.delawarevalleytackle.com/ He's a friend of mine, and will do you right.

  4. A 100cc flat 12? Wow!
  5. 10# P-Line CXX works for me.
  6. I can't tell you how many Rogue fish I've caught over the years. They are a great option for guys not willing to shell out the big bucks for Lucky Craft, Jackall, OSP, and even Rapalas, which can get a little pricey. I do recommend throwing them on spinning gear, at 3/8 oz. it's just easier to manage. A 6'6" MF rod with 8# copoly or 15-20 braid and leader will work fine.
  7. I bet Dwight's camera has a Hawg Handler on it.
  8. I hate tanking a specific brand, but out of all the units I've used, the two Garmins I ran on my Xpress were the worst ever. Flighty, blippy, sometimes never showed fish when the front unit was. Never got tuned into them. Lowrance (and Eagle) was easily the easiest to learn, just plug it in, and roll. Humminbird took some dialing in, but once setup were the most versatile. I'm looking forward to learning about Raymarine, and seeing what they have to offer.
  9. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Black's Camp if you're staying there. Great people, reasonable places, and a great location.
  10. Not the place for this stuff guys, sorry.
  11. A marine boating store, like West Marine should have waterproof inline fuses. You install it on the positive lead. Any home improvement store will have the proper crimp on connectors in their electrical dept., though I recommend solder and shrink wrap for a better long term solution. Go to a Lowes or Home Depot, and somone should be able to point you in the right direction.
  12. Let Shimano know. They've long said that marketing entry/mid level left hand models in the US just isn't worth it. I guess they figure anyone that specialized wilstep up to the Chronarch line.
  13. I've found most rods in to $100 range and up to be plent sensitive. In fact, for years, I used an old Berkley Acuflex Series One from the '90s, until I stupidly snapped the tip in a ceiling fan. That was one cool rod! I'm also skeptical of "drop shot" designated models. I prefer an extra fast tip, and a med-light to medium power. I don't want too much power, and want to be able to get into the "bend" quickly, without sacrificing tip speed. Think spinner bait rod tip with a crank bait rod mid section and butt. Others I know prefer to use a parabolic style rod. They usually use a bit more than a reel set, so that may be a factor as well. The rods I use now are both Saint Croix Avids, AVS63MLXF and AVSMXF. I jump up to the medium power rod when I have to resort to heavier sinkers. My old Accuflex...RIP.
  14. If I'm not mistaken, E series gears do not work in G series reels.
  15. Use a T-pin with a 90* bend in the tip, and go in through the groove on the worm gear, and push it out from behind.

  17. I've seen a preview of this one, and it's a good one. Hard for me to watch, as Wild Bill was a close friend, but a fitting tribute.
  18. They might have them via JDM channels. I suppose you could try Japan tackle or Plat, but it's going to cost you. I know lefty crankers have been a big hole in Shimano's line up for a long time. About all I can suggest is to look elsewhere. Daiwa makes several lefty low IPT in left hand models. I personally use a righty for cranking, but have found the Alphas/Sol platform to be perfect for this. They're not too hard to find on the used/eBay market, and there are some pretty cool, inexpensive performance upgrades available, like Carbontex Drags and ABEC 5 stainless bearings (both upgrades I've put in my three Sols and Alphas) that really bring the reel up a notch, if you're interested in that kind of thing.
  19. That's pretty much my feelings on it too.
  20. Harmful if swallowed or splashed into the eyes.
  21. Totally agree! I use a pitch cast with any of my rods, including spinning. In fact, I bet I pitch my drop shot more than any other set up in the boat. Faster, and more efficient.
  22. Chuck, I fished Santee Cooper from a bass boat, two years ago. I would not fish there from a kayak. Huge alligators everywhere. Hit me up, and I'll tell you a story, lol.
  23. You can't put right hand gears in a left hand reel.
  24. I'm a little guy, and have no issue with rods up to 8'. That said, I have a 6' 8" G. Loomis 803 jig and worm rod that is phenomonal in tight quarters with fish on a "short leash." You gain leverage with a shorter rod, and it's especially useful when you are making short pitches, tight to cover. It's a rod I've really grown to like this past season.
