I have a pair of custom pliers made by .RM. They basically have a small cup on one side, and hole completely through the other. The last step is to tap a small punch with a tack hammer to get the pin out. I made a small jig out of a block of plastic to aid in this. Google up "spool-shaft-bearing-retainer-pin-removal" and you'll find the page.
