  1. That's it! Your guess about the AR stack would be my guess too. Flushing and oiling the bearings isn't going to resolve the issue. In fact, I prefer to grease main gear support bearings in my own spinning reels for better smoothness. This requires specialized tools, though, and a drop of oil is fine. As far as the Hot Sauce goes, the oil is fine. The grease is garbage, though. Breaks down too quickly.
  2. Bigger pot. (null)
  3. I actually heard the full story yesterday at the seminar. Some of the off camera stuff could make a great show. (null)
  4. See the forum Rules and FAQs:
  5. You're thinking of the term "ringer," not "sandbagger."
  6. This is exactly it. Not all touring pros are rolling in dough. Many are betting their life savings on chasing the dream. The game is played on many "levels," and they're all relative. I fish opens on Oneida all the time. I don't complain when a local stick that lives on the lake, has been on the state and national teams several years, and was the prez of the NY BASS fed registers in an open that I'm fishing. I try to beat him.
  7. The Abus add four bearings in the knobs, a third spool bearing and a pinion stabilizing bearing. These have no net effect on casting distance, and are a simple means to add smoothness, but they add weight. Shimano takes a slightly different route by placing just what bearings are needed and save weight, but add frame material to maintain alignment. The net effect is the same - Ford vs. Chevy.
  8. Big fan of Shannon and your father? Curse is a good episode, very funny: http://www.lunkerville.com/lunkerville1/curseoflunkerville.html My personal all time favorites are the Lunkerville on Ice series: http://www.lunkerville.com/lunkerville1/episode3ice.html
  9. It makes the mundane task of sacking up 4 lbs. of eggs a little easier to bare, lol.
  10. Dark pic, but this is Mac n' cheese I had Saturday in a cafe in upper Manhattan. By cheese, I mean Asiago, Pecorino, Romano, and Ruggiero. And fresh steamed lobster as well.
  11. You probably want to use the pneumatic wheels. They work well on the rocky Great Lakes shoreline.
  12. Collect the eggs in a Tupperware container, and cover them with kosher pickling salt. Do not rinse them in anything other than stream water. Use more salt than you think you should use - you'll see what I mean. You can always add a little more in a few hours. That will cure them and they will last all year. Then you can get some colored mesh and thread to tie up spawn bags that have 3-7 eggs in them. Once you tie off the bag tightly, trim the excess mesh, and you have a little bundle of eggs you can use as bait. Just thread the bag on a small hook, cast it out and hang on. Rainbows are CRAZY for brown eggs. You can see the spawn bag in this fish's mouth:
  13. I have no idea. I can guarantee you that if a shop is doing an estimate for and insurance company, they are not going to bid low. They will be pricing for brand new OEM parts. When it comes time to do the repair, it's your choice whether to use reclaimed parts, or new OEM parts. Here's the link to the laws: http://www.troopers.ny.gov/FAQs/Traffic_Safety/Collisions/ I stand corrected, it's $1001.
  14. Why is there any discussion of a deductible? There is no deductible in play, he didn't hit his own car. The brother's insurance would pay out in full.
  15. Doesn't matter, one shop already burst the ceiling. besides, it's best to have an accurate police report for any collision. As far as being in hot water, I think this mentality is just playing games. Why would an innocent bystander get in "hot water" with any reasonable person? The girlfriend's brother was the person that made the mistake, and should suffer the consequences - he's the one in hot water. This should have been sent straight to the insurance companies. Hopefully he works it all out for the OP, his girlfriend, and her brother. Seems like much ado about a simple report and insurance claim. My neighbor backed out of her driveway, and into my truck. Didn't look like much, turned out to be almost $4K in repairs. Insurance covered all of it, and I don't think her rates went up. Painless. No politics, and we're still friendly.
  16. No clue. Sorry, but I just don't get paying $1100 out of pocket, when insurance would cover this, though probably resulting in a small, temporary raise in her brother's rates. It just doesn't add up.
  17. How deep are you usually fishing? That can make a difference. I'd say 90% of my jig fish are on the drop, and not much more than 15'. I rarely leave a jig on the bottom for more than a couple seconds. If I need to work a piece of deep structure, a vertical drop shot is a better tool for me. If there's too much weed cover for that, I use a jika rigged craw.
  18. Uhh. It's the law. I think you have ten days to file the report.
  19. The sound probably isn't so great outside, but the screen (actually, the four screens) is cool.
  20. In NY, you must report any damage greater than $1000 to the police, and that in turn is automatically reported to insurance. Go through insurance, and avail yourself of the family struggles.
  21. Browns in full spawning dress are awful eating. I know, because I harvest a few females for their eggs each fall, and eat them as tribute. They are better when they are dime bright, like this:
  22. Do you really believe that a bass can differentiate that 1/8 oz. difference in the size of the head? I mean, really the profile is the same because it's formed through the skirt and trailer, not the jig head.
  23. My friend Jules won $4 too, lol.
