  1. Males develop a kype when they undergo hormonal and physiological changes just before the spawning run. http://adventure.howstuffworks.com/outdoor-activities/fishing/freshwater-tips/trout/trout-spawn1.htm Here is the difference between male rainbows and females, prespawn: Male, or "buck" Female, or "hen" And a spawning run male, with a kype jaw Finally, this is what a non run king looks like most of the year:
  2. The first one is from my neck of the woods. In fact, it's a "forbidden spot," though I occasionally get permission to fish it.
  3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_perch http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_perch EU perch are Perca fluviatilis, while our yellow perch are Perca flavescens, being of the same genus, they are very closely related.
  4. Not a pink. It's a king, in full spawning colors. Nice mudshark. Here's another, to compare: Here's a Coho: Here's where it gets hinky. Coho on the top, and Kingho hybrid on the bottom. Note the enlarged adipose fin between the dorsal and tail fin:
  5. I've had a chance to hear both sides of this story, and I don't think this has anything to do with the good sellers list, reputations, post counts, etc., and has everything to do with an uninsured package being delivered as hurricane Sandy hit. An untimely set of circumstances. The buyer absorbed much of the losses here, though the seller took a pretty big hit here, too. I don't think there's much more to say about it, so I'm closing the books on this one.

They look like floating water safety barriers meant to keep boaters out of off limits areas.
  7. We actually are working on an issue with updating that thread. Any updates should be sent to myself, or any of the current moderators.
  8. I'm still not following how a mail screw up has anything to do with the good sellers list. The list is a record of previous transactions. That's all. Take it for what it's worth.
  9. Maybe my guy has one back in his truck, where erv that's parked. I only see him walking with a sack of mail. Then again, I live in the city, so it may be different.
  10. Wow, I usually see it as delivered a day or so after it's at my house.
  11. The line class ratings will give you the best clue as to what they can handle.
  12. I've never seen a letter carrier with any type of scanner up here. Only UPS or Fedex use tools like that.
  13. Hmmm, they are generally pretty light on power to protect big fish lighter line, but make up for that limpness in with extra length, thereby having a longer, more proressive power section. I'm sure it would work, but it wouldn't be ideal.
  14. 10-12" ribbon tail worm.
  15. Wiper and Sunshine Bass are both common names for this striper/white bass hybrid. The tip off is the broken stripes. I caught them down in VA pretty good. Bigger ones do put up a nice battle.
  16. Drop shot small worms, 3-4". Don't bother with matching the forage, just get it down there, and do nothing.
  17. I picked the CI4 (I have 3) for my deep water work because they are light and have a fast IPT despite the small spool on the 2500/3000 series. This can come into play when smallies come rocketing straight up to the boat in 30+ feet of water.
  18. With a somewhat weightier reel, like the Chonarch 201e7 I use, I agree.
  19. Not really a swimbait, but the Ragetail Smokin' Rooster is a very good bullhead/madtom analog When "rage-rigged."
  20. It's an old one I got off eBay. I think it's a 20 pounder with 2oz. increments.
