Crankin' Reel
I can throw jerkbaits with any ratio, since you're just reeling up slack. Sometimes I like a high speed reel for spinnerbaits, but something middle of the road works fine for me. My cranking reels are all Alphas/Sols and are around 23 IPT with their 5.8:1 ratio.

What Do You Consider A Trophy-Sized Fish?
I have two over 7 here in NY, so I have to go with what ww2farmer said. I don't think I caught any over 6 last year, and I got my monster early this year, back in March I think. It's gonna have to be 8, and a big 8 to be a trophy for me.

Shimano Views??
The Interwebz: the misinformation super highway. Don't know much about their rods, but the reels have treated me well. I have three Chronarchs, two Stradics, and three CI4s. All are working out great, and I'm a Daiwa man.

Are Traditional Jigs A Thing Of The Past?
A standup jig with worm on and a flipping jig ate two COMPLETELY different things. Just look at the myriad of head styles of "traditional" bass jigs and you can see that there is still quite a bit of development. For the record, that Shake2 is not a shaky head, it's a standup. A real shaky head is an evolution of the jig worm, a very old school presentation.

- Are Traditional Jigs A Thing Of The Past?
No need to condemn it or try his jig. Been splitting the weed guard into a "V" for years. In my opinion, it's only advantage is in softball size, round lake rocks, where the conventional jig gets caught in the spaces. It is obvious. It's why I use a "lift and drop" retrieve. I also believe this to be hugely important, and one of the details that separates great anglers from successful ones. And it goes for just about any bait.- Grate Or Great??? Updated 9/25/12

Less is definitely more when weighting cranks. Also take a look at "jacking" deep divers. Basically a small, pegged bullet weight just before the line tie on a deep diver. You can basically get a bait to run 40' deep if you want. I use it mainly for trout, but no reason it shouldn't work for deep bass.- Exactly What Are Natural Colors?
There are tons of brilliant, naturally occurring colors, but conventional wisdom calls muted browns, greens, and silver as "natural." I don't agree that those are always the right colors to throw in clear water, but you won't be wrong to.- How To Adjust Lew's Speed Spool Reel
Loosen the knurled screw knob on the handle side. Twist the sideplate (up, I believe, or clockwise on a righty), and the sideplate should come off, exposing the brakes.- She Made Me Go Skinny Dippin With Her!

Get it, and have the drag upgraded. Fish it like you stole it, because you did at that price, assuming it's right.- She Made Me Go Skinny Dippin With Her!
