I have caught a lot of walleye over the years & can tell you they will hit all the baits you use for bass. Obviously bottom oriented baits like jigs, blade baits & jigging spoons rule most of the time but eyes hit surface baits regularly during low light conditions. Eyes also suspend like bass based on bait schools depth. They are suckers for hard baits like jerks & cranks & spoons/spinners. Soft bait minnow imitations like flukes, paddle tails & grub tails all work very well. Eyes will also attack bigger baits like Mann’s stretch 25’s or stretch 30’s. It’s not unusual for big walleye to hit musky plugs either. So don’t be afraid to try whatever baits you might have with you when targeting walleyes.

For smallmouth hands down it is a jerk bait. Produces big fish & numbers. Largemouth favorite is a lipless crank with the red eye shad by Strike King being my favorite. It's produced two PB's for me.

Like others have suggested hang in there as best you can. Hoping it gets better for you soon.

I used to use this but converted to suffix advance. It is superior in cast ability and very strong. It is thicker in diameter so 14 is like 17 & 17 is like 20 in the sunline Defier Armilo. The Advance is the best I have found.

First thing I would throw is the same bait you used in the spring. What works in the spring always worked for me in the fall. All the above suggestions are good as well.

I'm pretty sure it defaults to sleep or off after a certain time period.

Historically I primarily fished Erie for smallmouth for about 11 years. I limited my fishing mostly to prespawn spring April thru May & in the fall late September through November. That time period offers the best opportunity to catch a trophy. If you know Erie you know that your time spent fishing is all about mother nature's schedule & not your own. Wind & waves kills a lot of fishing days. Then you have to deal with dirty water & poor visibility up to the better part of a week after several days of high winds. I probably averaged about 50 fishing days during that time frame each year During that time period I caught 55 smallies over 6lbs. I caught one over seven lbs at 7lb-6oz. My best 10 were 7-6, 6-15, 6-14 & two at 6-12, 6-10, 6-9, two at 6-8 & 6-7. I never tallied those over 5lbs but I would guess I caught between 100-200 five pounders. My time fishing for largemouth is probably about the same as smallies. My three biggest largemouth are 11-8, 11-2 & 10-2 caught in Mexico & FL. I have caught eight largemouth over 9lbs from GA, FL & Mexico. All these statistics are based on fishing premier fisheries. Based on my own experience chasing trophy bass from top quality fisheries I think a 6lb smallie is the equivalent of a 10lb largemouth. I think a 7lb smallie is the equivalent of a 11lb or 12lb largemouth. A 8lb smallie equals a 13lb plus largemouth. Now for the guys unable to fish premier waters then a 5lb smallie equals an 8lb largemouth & both represent trophy quality fish.

I have used 200 series calcutta's & 300 calcutta TE's for a lot of years chasing big pike & some musky. You would be just fine with a 200 calcutta for your occasional usage & 2-3 oz lures. I always used bass gear for pike & have caught lots of 20lb pike up to 32lbs with that gear. Go for it.

You can guess but nobody has any proof either for or against. Obviously any fish fought in current gives the fish more of an advantage when they are swimming with the current so they seem stronger from that aspect. The same thing happens in the great lakes when the wind/waves are blowing your boat away from a hooked fish digging to reach the bottom.

Keep fishing. Time on the water is your friend. Breakwaters with rock are good for river mouths & launches like at Conny. Try fishing some jerk baits & cover water as best you can on foot. Good luck.
