  1. They never use the Honda 2 stroke either!
  2. X2 or any other healthy fishery.
  3. I started keeping track of all 5lbers & 6lbers caught out of my boat for spring pre spawn which is April & May and a limited few fall days from Oct & Nov. There would a category for 7lbers but nobody wants to contribute to that statistic the last four years. Maybe I need to get LuckyCraftMan to fish out my boat instead of his. Anyhow here is the breakdown for 2010 through 2013. That's 145 smallies over 5lbs and 26 smallies over 6lbs for the last 4 years. That means on a four year average you need to catch 5.5 five pounders before you are going to get a six. I have no idea why 2012 was such a good year for five pounders caught. Average fishing days for each year probably totaled 45-50 days per year for pre spawn & a few fall days. All fish complied were caught on jerkbaits. 2010 Results 33 smallies over 5lbs 4 smallies over 6lbs Biggest was 6-12 2011 Results 30 smallies over 5lbs 7 smallies over 6lbs Biggest was 6-9 2012 Results 60 smallies over 5lbs 8 smallies over 6lbs Biggest fish was 6-15 2013 Results 22 smallies over 5lbs 7 smallies over 6lbs Biggest fish was 6-8
  4. This season I got to fish with Topwaterspook, A-Jay, South FLA and 00 mod from this site. All fine fellows & good fisherman. The smallmouth season was average but the largemouth season was very good. Got to share A-Jay's new personal best smallie & largemouth. Got to share Jeff's 4th DD. And I got to net a couple of bass & several really nice walleyes for Stitch. I finally got into the DD largemouth club with a new pb. Hoping to share some new PB's next years on Lake Erie as well as Lake Baccarac and maybe even down in Florida.
  5. You can learn to read between the lines for 2 ounce increments. Then your boga reads more than 5lb but not 5.25lbs it is probably 5-2oz. Takes a little practice but you can get very good readings. I confirm it with a digital that weighs to the 1/2 oz to check out my interpolation between lines.
  6. I am in the light braid with mono leader camp for jerkbaits and it works for me.
  7. Contact Megabass and see if they will replace it. If it is a really slow sink with the replcement split rings I would just go ahead & use it. Very sloooow sink is not a bad thing.
  8. There are commercial scale calibration & certification available if you're really interested. IGFA will calibrate & certify for a 12 month period at their headquarters in Dania Beach FL. Annual membership is $40. IGFA will examine scales weighing up to 100 lbs for members at a cost of $30.00. This fee includes return shipment by regular parcel post. I was told by an IGFA representative that the boga grip spring scale had the highest success rate of certification by them. Boga makes a 15lb sclae, a 30lb & a 60lb. The best scale for bass would be the 15lb model which weighs to the quarter pound. If your fishing for bass bigger than 15lbs better get the 30lber.
  9. Man that's really bad timing.
  10. X2 from all of us.
  11. We talked to legendary guide Sixto the last night we were there. He told us a story about catching three 10lbers in under 15 minutes from the same spot. With his reputation I had no reason to doubt him.
  12. Don't feel bad. I went the whole way to Mexico to beat your little green fish.
  13. Good quality bass especially from the bank. WTG.
  14. Non dc reel is the antares 2012. JDM dc is the antares dc or the USDM calais dc like Stitch said. Read Jun's Comments at the bottom. http://www.japantackle.com/Shimano/Shimano_12Antares.htm
  15. It is a blast. I have always measured a fishery by my personal continuing success while fishing it. When each trip brings new pb's, more quality fish caught and maybe even bigger fish lost it keeps your enthusiasm high. Lake Athabasca in northern Saskatchewan, Lake Erie PA & Lake Baccarac Mexico all come to mind for me. Always more pluses than minuses from each subsequent trip keeps you looking forward with greater anticipation than the last trip. Getting to share the experience with guys you truly like & respect is just icing on the cake.
