Watery grave
That’s as bad as the calais DC & St Croix legend extreme I lost to a bass that grabbed my soft plastic bait I left in the water at the side of the boat. The fishing gods at Stickmarsh laughed at me that day.

Yes, another Scale Q
Yes buy a 15lb bogs grip & you will have a scale for your lifetime. No battery to fail & the most accurate spring scale on the market. Reads in quarter pound increments & you can interpolate weights between the hash marks reliably to the 2 oz range. IGFA will certify them for records as well. As a bonus they double as a landing tool for toothy species & keep you from getting hooked when removing treble hooks.

Setting the drag
Tyler the the reason for backing the drag off is to prevent it from taking a set or developing a flat spot in the drag washers.

New Shimano SLX brake cover won’t close!
If the cover isn't in the correct orientation it will not close. The ear must be pointing up. There is a rubber o ring that makes the fit very snug so you must press down with some force. Also as suggested loosen the tension knob on the other side to allow more movement of the spool shaft. It is tricky the first time trying to get it back in place.

Fishing rod sensitivity
The rod your using is known for its sensitivity so your good with that. Some line types can help increase what your feeling especially braid & flouro as others have mentioned. Your sense of feel will sharpen with practice.
