  1. I'm sure its a nice real seeing as the old president's were fantastic but man that is one ugly color.
  2. G Loomis rods are definately worth the extra cash. If you have the money I would go with the loomis over the st. croix any day of the week. That being said, st. croix makes very good rods and if you can't justify spending the extra dough on a loomis, I'm sure you'll be happy with a st. croix.
  3. Amen. She was completely within her legal right.
  4. :-/ Better than that scream-o garbage you like about eating your dog and killing your mother. Whoooaaaa!!! Completely uncalled for. First of all, "scream-o" is not an actual genre, and second, its not garbage. It may not be for everybody but that doesn't make it any less musically valuable than any other music genre. To me, jazz sounds like a random collection of undesirable notes but that doesn't mean it is less musically relevant than the "scream-o" music that I listen to. Didn't mean to rant but I have a huge problem with people being critical of other peoples music when more often than not they haven't even made a concerted effort to understand it. People with close-minded attitudes are the reason that music is stagnant today. Anyway... not a big fan of the new GNR album either. GNR isn't the same without slash.
  5. Amen. You only need chartreuse shad and ghost minnow in size 100 sp. Use chartreuse shad for darker water and ghost minnow for clear water. I have about twenty lucky craft pointers but I would say 90% of them are either ghost minnow or chartreuse shad. The other colors are pretty much irrelevant, at least for smallmouth.
  6. I saw the extremely long guitar player thread so I figured there has to be at least some guitarists on this forum. If you play guitar, state what type of music you play, what type of gear you have, what songs/music you've been playing lately, and how long you've been playing. As for me, I play shred and metal(metalcore and death metal) mostly, but also a good bit of blues. My main guitar is a Jackson SL1 and I'm playing through a line 6 spider 3 120 watt combo but I'm upgrading to a Peavey stack this winter. Lately I've been playing a lot of original stuff with my band but when I have time I've been working on a lot of Jason Becker and Steve Vai stuff. I've been playing for 8 years.
  7. Favorites: Jason Becker Paul Gilbert Steve Vai Stevie Ray Vaughn Eric Clapton Jimi Hendrix Yngwie Malmsteen (although he is an arrogant @#$) Dave Mustaine Jimi Hendrix Duane Allman Least Favorite (mini-rant): Herman Li from Dragonforce who is not 1/17th as good as people think he is. His sweep picking is ridiculously simple and has zero creativity. It is also not that fast. Someone who doesn't play shred guitar could listen to it and thing it was blazing but believe me its not. If you want to see really fast sweep picking, check out Serrana or Altitudes by Jason Becker on youtube.
  8. I cant decide which reel to buy. The chronarch MG is on sale right now but I've also heard awesome things about the new curado. I'm leaning towards getting the MG before they're replaced and just getting the curado down the road. What do you guys think, which is the better reel?
  9. Nichols and War Eagle spinnerbaits exclusively. Best spinnerbaits out there IMO.
  10. I have one and I like it okay. Its a solid reel but but performance wise its just okay. If you can get one on sale it would be worth t but I think there are better options out there.
  11. Do you guys prefer to use a spinning rod or a casting rod for jerkbait fishing. I know a lot of people who insist that spinning rods give you more control over jerkbaits but I really prefer using my baitcaster. I have tried many times fishing jerkbaits with spinning tackle but I always end up going back to my baitcaster. I just feel like I can manipulate the bait better. What are your preferences. Is there any disadvantage to using baitcasting gear?
  12. Whenever the fish hits mid-jerk, I never really feel the hit. Mostly, it just feels like the jerkbait hit a brick wall. However, when the fish hit it on the pause, they REALLY crush it. As far as advice, don't be afraid to use big jerkbaits, even for smallmouth. I've caught lots of smallies on the 128 Pointers, especially in the fall and early spring. In a tournament a few weeks ago I had a smallie that was barely 17" swallow all 5" of my 128 pointer. It hit it on the pause and it almost ripped the rod out of my hands. That same day my partner hooked 2 18" smallies on one cast with a big pointer and there was another 18" bass behind them trying to steal it! As far as models, I like to use the slender pointers in the summer or when the fish are really active, smallies seem to like that extra action. In the spring and fall I use the regular pointers almost exclusively.
  13. WHAT!?! Jerkbaits are my go to lures for smallies! Suspending jerkbaits are the only thing I throw in the early spring and fall for smallmouth. If you can't catch em' on jerkbaits you need to pick up a few LC Pointers man!! as for overated lures, it has to be the chatterbait. Its not that they don't catch fish, but I can't see a single application where they would work any better than a regular spinnerbait
  14. So I have a dilemma. I really like the look of the new foam split grip rods that have hit the market recently (steez, cumara, zillion, etc.) but I'm reluctant to use EVH to build my handles because I've heard that it isn't very durable and it breaks down after use. What have been your experiences with EVH grips, do they hold up well enough? Are there any alternative foam grips that work better?
  15. Anybody know anywhere that I can order a left hand curado E7 from. Every place I look either has them on backorder or they don't have them in yet. Everyone seems to have the right hand ones but I can't find anyplace that carries left handers.
  16. So, what jerkbaits do you guys think are the best (not best value, best regardless of price) on the market.
  17. This winter I plan on building a new jerkbait casting rod but I can't decide whether I think a 6'6" or a 6' would be better. I'm leaning toward the 6'6" but I've been thinking that a 6' might be a little easier to manipulate a jerkbait with. What length do you guys prefer for your jerkbait rod?
  18. senkos spro bronzeye frogs stanley ribbits jigs spinnerbaits (war eagle for smallmouth, terminator for largemouth) cavitron buzzbaits tubes crankbaits various plastic worms lucky craft pointers (no other jerkbaits even exist in my mind) medium sized swimbaits
  19. Are any of you guys using swimbaits for smallmouth? If so what kinds are you using. I recently saw a TV show where KVD was catching smallmouth of all sizes on strike king king shads.
  20. I frequently go as light as 1/8oz so as long as you have your reels adjusted properly you should be fine with 3/16 oz. lures.
  21. I use a custom G Loomis SB812 spinnerbait rod that I built paired with a Quantum Tour Edition and 15-20lb fluroclear.
  22. I use chartreuse shad and ghost minnow type colors in clearer, less stained water. If I were you I would get them both in american shad. Its a good all-around color that works in almost any water clarity.
  23. The bass pro binder has worked really well for me.
