Chargers problem?
Nah, Schottenheimer's not a bad coach. His playoff record just drags him down. It's all Elway's fault.

Mangini gets axed
Yeah, I know Gruden would never go back and I'm still holding a grudge against Al Davis for letting him get away to begin with. I think Cowher is a bit over-rated.....although I wouldn't mind the Raiders giving him a try. ;D But, just like most other decent/good coaches, Cowher can see the writing on the wall in Oaktown (Al makes all the decisions, the coach is a yes man) and that scares them all away. Al has enough trouble just finding people to interview for the job.

Zoom WEC crankbaits...whatz up??
Simmons Sporting Goods. My favorite is the Z Flat. They did have some Wobblers on there recently, they're pretty popular as well.

Chargers problem?
Chokers, plain and simple. One more thing: Chargers management should feel stupid for getting rid of Schottenheimer to hire Norv Turner. Marty's playoff record isn't a true indicator of his overall coaching ability....and when you do look at his playoff record, he's due for some big wins. ;D

I have not...if I could get them a little cheaper I would try one. Quit sittin' on that fat wallet and try one. ;D You'll get most of your money back out of it if you dont like it.

7-9
;D More like 3-13 in any other division. As for the playoffs, it's going to be one and done, just like the Chefs.

Mangini gets axed
There's going to be a bunch of HC jobs coming open in the next few days. Browns, Carolina, maybe Raiders, maybe Dolphins, maybe Cincy, maybe Tennessee, 49ers need a coach, Denver needs one and I'm sure I forgot a couple more. All I ask is that Gruden goes back to Oakland.

Carolina Rig Question?
I wouldnt recommend Yo Zuri Ultra Soft for any type of fishing but a true fluorocarbon in either 15# or 17# test tied to 50# braid is what I use for my carolina rig setup. The braid gives maximum feel and sensitivity as well as a rock solid hookset when you are making long casts with the rig. And if you get hung up, the braid will usually allow you to at least get your weights and beads back.

Winter Classic Hockey
Did anyone else have a problem with the camera's being so far away at what seemed like bad angles? Anyway, it was good to see the Pens lose. That means the Rangers didnt lose any ground.

So whats the real deal with Recoil guides?
My GLX Shaky Head rod has recoils. I just use fluorocarbon. Noise problem solved. ;D

Amazing how it can be just on and then just as quickly off.
I think it was Rick Clunn that always preached: 'Never leave fish to find fish'. It's hard to do though, especially in winter when the school shuts down and you know they wont be on again for a while. It's a tough decision but I will usually opt to run around looking for active fish.

Tom Brady...MVP?
Me either. I may hold a grudge against Brady and the Patriots (see 'tuck rule' game) but I will give credit where credit is due. Brady has flat out tore it up this year. He deserves it, no doubt.

Correct, because there are no definites in fishing. Bass cannot eat if they dont have anything to eat. Bass dont generally like to travel much or very far in cold water to feed. It benefits them to stay with the shad once they bunch up in the winter. In my experience here on the east coast in the winter months, finding bait is key and when you find the bait, you are fishing the higher percentage area.

Winter in my opinion is probably the easiest time of the year to catch fish. There are less variables in the winter. The baitfish are grouped up into huge schools and arent doing much moving around like they do so the bass dont have to work as hard to eat. They get very predictable this time of year. I know you mentioned that you fished certain structures and spots with no luck. I'd forget all that and find some bait first. Just ride around for a while and watch your graph for shad. The bass will be around the shad during the winter. If I ride thru an area and see no baitfish on the graph, I keep going.....even on the better looking spots. No shad = no fishing. Once I find an area with some bait, I note the depth the bait is using and drop a spoon and just vertical jig until I run into something. Another bait I will throw in the shad is a jerkbait but I make sure that I have a jerkbait that will get in the strike zone. The bass group up in the winter and they follow the shad where ever they may go. Sometimes you can find areas that the shad will stay in all winter and you can catch bass in those areas all winter as well. Most of the time, for me at least, the areas that can hold shad and bass all winter are cuts, pockets or small feeder creeks just off the main channel. The key thing in these pockets and cuts is that it has deep water, at least 30 ft deep down the middle. As long as I see bait activity in these spots, I'll just line up the boat and troll (float) real slow right down the middle with the spoon, then turn around and come back out on either side, then go back in down the other side with my eyes glued to my graph the whole time. Watching your electronics for bait is key in the cold months. The bass will be near the bait. You may catch one here and there by fishing certain spots but if you find a big load of bait, you'll probably catch multiple bass. Find the bait, find the bass.
