blue ridge brawl
Not usually except for when they get up to actually drop eggs. I suspect those fish were out in a little deeper water (3-4') and would run up and ambush the swimbait, like they do shad and bluegill. They'll just wait out a little deeper and use the bank like a wall. Anything that comes between the bass and the wall gets eaten.

Skeet won by almost 15 pounds. 4 day total of 78-1. He committed to the swimbait late on Day 2 and threw it the rest of the tournament. NEED HELP FOR TOMORROW
Whats the current water temps? Thats the most important factor in the spring. If the water is less than 60, I'd go with a suspending jerkbait. If you get some wind, throw a spinnerbait.

I dont know if any of you caught this quote from Gerald Swindle on stage at the Day 1 weigh in but when I heard him say it, I thought it was hilarious. Quote from Bassmaster.com "I broke off so many jigs trying to catch this one fish, it looked like Christmas in there. I finally caught that 14-inch sucker and threw him back, just to show him who's boss." Gerald Swindle

blue ridge brawl
Just got back from the Day 3 weigh in. Skeet dropped 21-13 on the scales and carries a 6 pound plus lead into the final day. If it goes like it's been going for Skeet, they'll be handing him the trophy tomorrow afternoon. This isn't good news for KVD in the AOY points race. 1 Skeet Reese 5 17- 9 5 18-13 5 21-13 15 58- 3 2 Jason Williamson 5 22- 9 5 14- 2 5 15- 3 15 51-14 3 Bobby Lane 5 21- 7 5 13- 9 5 13- 2 15 48- 2 4 Matt Reed 5 17- 3 5 16-11 5 13-13 15 47-11 5 Dean Rojas 5 16- 7 5 15- 2 5 15- 7 15 47- 0 6 Edwin Evers 5 14-13 5 16-15 5 15- 3 15 46-15 7 Terry Scroggins 5 19-13 5 15- 5 5 11- 5 15 46- 7 8 Greg Hackney 5 15-13 5 13-13 5 16- 7 15 46- 1 9 Aaron Martens 5 18- 6 5 15- 8 5 11- 7 15 45- 5 10 Gerald Swindle 5 15- 8 5 17- 2 5 12- 8 15 45- 2 11 Marty Robinson 5 19- 2 5 15-15 5 9-14 15 44-15 12 Ish Monroe 5 16- 8 5 13- 1 5 15- 4 15 44-13 ****ANGLERS BELOW THIS LINE ARE NOT FISHING SUNDAY**** 13 Mark Tucker 5 16- 1 5 14- 2 5 14- 9 15 44-12 14 Alton Jones 5 15-14 5 15- 0 5 13-14 15 44-12 15 Scott Rook 5 15-15 5 12-15 5 15- 5 15 44- 3 16 Dave Wolak 5 12-13 5 15- 8 5 15- 8 15 43-13 17 Davy Hite 5 17-10 5 11-13 5 14- 3 15 43-10 18 Cliff Pace 5 16- 5 5 15- 3 5 11-15 15 43- 7 19 John Crews 5 12- 5 5 19- 2 5 11- 9 15 43- 0 20 Jason Quinn 5 18-11 5 11- 4 5 12- 1 15 42- 0 21 Kelly Jordon 5 14-15 5 12- 6 5 14-10 15 41-15 22 Kevin VanDam 5 14-12 5 14- 3 5 12-11 15 41-10 23 Todd Faircloth 5 18- 9 5 11-10 5 11- 2 15 41- 5 24 Steve Kennedy 5 14-10 5 11-12 5 14-12 15 41- 2 25 Terry Butcher 5 15-11 5 14- 4 5 10-14 15 40-13 26 Brian Snowden 5 14- 7 5 13- 8 5 12-12 15 40-11 27 James Niggemeyer 5 16-11 5 11- 0 5 12- 4 15 39-15 28 Mark Menendez 5 17- 1 5 12- 2 5 10-10 15 39-13 29 Keith Poche 5 15- 3 5 12-14 5 11-10 15 39-11 30 Greg Vinson 5 13- 9 5 14-10 5 11- 6 15 39- 9 31 Jared Lintner 5 14-14 5 12- 5 5 12- 5 15 39- 8 32 Mike McClelland 5 14-10 5 12- 6 5 12- 2 15 39- 2 33 Jeff Kriet 5 12- 7 5 15-12 5 10-10 15 38-13 34 Tommy Biffle 5 14- 7 5 12- 4 5 11- 7 15 38- 2 35 Morizo Shimizu 5 12-14 5 13- 6 5 11-11 15 37-15 36 Kotaro Kiriyama 5 16- 9 5 11- 6 5 9-14 15 37-13 37 Mark Tyler 5 16- 3 5 13- 0 5 8-10 15 37-13 38 Takahiro Omori 5 13-12 5 13- 3 5 10-12 15 37-11 39 Byron Velvick 5 14-11 5 11- 9 5 11- 2 15 37- 6 40 Fred Roumbanis 5 14-12 5 11-13 5 10-10 15 37- 3 41 Clark Reehm 5 10-11 5 16- 1 5 9-12 15 36- 8 42 Byron Haseotes 5 13- 4 5 15- 2 3 8- 0 13 36- 6 43 Derek Remitz 5 15- 9 5 12- 6 5 8- 6 15 36- 5 44 Guy Eaker 5 18- 1 5 11- 8 4 6-11 14 36- 4 45 Bernie Schultz 5 14-10 5 12-11 5 8-14 15 36- 3 46 Billy McCaghren 5 13- 7 5 12-14 5 9- 6 15 35-11 47 Chris Lane 5 14-10 5 13- 5 1 1- 9 11 29- 8

I think it's actually called BassTrakk...and I agree, it was pretty lame of Faircloth to do that, if in fact he knew it. Yeah, Burley would throw out buoys during a tournament. He's a nice guy.

"Gambler" Tournaments
I'm a tournament fisherman and even I think the amount of tournaments is ridiculous. You can go to just about any ramp on my home lake or the surrounding lakes in my area on the weekend and find a tournament to get in. Heck, you'll have 2 or 3 tournaments going out from the State Park ramp just about every Saturday. I love the competition but the fish do get hammered. The Elite Series is on my home lake right now. Every fish in 2 ft of water or less has been stuck at least once. ;D

They definitely need the spray on Smith Mtn right now. I've had a bottle in my boat for 2 weeks. The pollen is thick here this year.

blue ridge brawl
It could go either way, really. If the sun stays out like it did today the females will be more inclined to go shallow. If that does happen they'll have some more big bags come across. If it goes the other way (which I think it will on Saturday and Sunday) they'll have to figure out something besides sight fishing. That's when it will get really interesting. If KVD can make the cut into the weekend, things could set up real well for him. Go Ike!!

blue ridge brawl
Both but mainly the smallmouth from what I've been seeing. Lots of buck largemouth cruising shallow and I've seen some absolute GIANT females up under the docks so it's not far off.

"the one that got away"
It doesn't bother me too much unless it happens during a tournament, then it eats at me the rest of the day and possibly a few more days, depending on what happens at the weigh in.

Texas Cheater prosecuted, Update.
In my opinion, that punishment is a little weak.....and I'm not even from Texas and havent been 'taken' by the dude and his cheating ways.

blue ridge brawl
KVD is a threat anywhere. They'll definitely have to find other ways to catch 'em rather than sitting on spawners all day, so that plays right into KVD's m.o. From what I saw over the weekend on SML, there are only certain areas of the lake that the fish are actually on beds and I've been from one end to the other. I dont think there's going to be enough fish on beds to go around but the moon phase may push some more up as the tournament wears on so you never know whats going to happen. I think 17# - 18# a day average will be hard to beat when all is said and done.
