  1. Seems like you may have a short circuit, which can be a bear to find. Question - Is your headlight switch part of the turn signal stalk? If so your turn signal switch may be bad. On some vehicles the circuit for all exterior lights travels through the turn signal switch. Good luck, electrical problems can become a nightmare even for experienced mechanics. One last suggestion: Google your truck's make, model and year and the words "tailight problem" Chances are someone else has had this problem and has posted a solution.
  2. I guess this goes to the moderators, apologies if it's been asked already, here goes: Has there been any interest in additional support forums from the other manufacturers? Pflueger, Daiwa, Abu, etc. Do you think there would be enough interest to keep additional forums going? It's cool that Shimano (Bantam) does this for the members. I realize Shimano users are probably the majority on this site and thats ok, just throwing the question out there. 8-)
  3. 2.82 after two tries.
  4. Now thats funny. Sounds like something my wife would say.
  5. Back in the mid eighties I got a Shimano Bullwhip Fightin' stick rod along with a Shimano IQ spinning reel (team Depends guys may remember these) I remember thinking "It doesn't get any better than this" I caught a ton of fish on this rig and still have it to this day even though it's been retired for about twenty years now. For whatever reason, I don't get rid of my old gear. As the years go by I've SLOWLY worked my way up the tackle food chain. I picked up that Shimano rig the other day and it feels like a broomstick in my hands. There's no way I could fish with it now and enjoy it despite the fact I had a lot of good times with it. Now that I have an Avid to start the upcoming season with, I wonder how long it will be before it becomes my next "broomstick" ? :-?
  6. I posted about this a couple of weeks ago. I have a St. Croix Avid and a Pflueger Supreme sitting in the basement hidden from me until the 25th. I can't see them but they taunt me when I'm down there....."Come on, lets go fishing, she'll never know"....... Oh the agony
  7. Had to think about that for a while, but I get it now. You might enjoy this one... An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman walk into a pub to have a pint. They ordered their drinks and the bartender set them down in front of them. Just then, three flies flew in and landed in each of their ales. The Englishman was disgusted by this and pushed his pint away, not wanting anything to do with it. The Irishman picked the fly out of his and proceeded to drink it down. The Scot picked the fly out of his, held it up to his face and started screaming "Spit it out you b*stard, spit it out"
  8. We finished up our job in Brooklyn, which was an engine overhaul on a fishing boat. This morning we went for a three hour sea trial to break in the engine. About an hour in, we saw the birds working the water ahead. The captain headed for there and set us up with a couple of rods rigged with diamond jigs. Only took a couple of casts and we were on 'em! Got a couple of nice ones, no monsters though. After about a half an hour it was back to reality (back to work). Sorry, no pics. Still was a blast though.
  9. I'm a union member and I'll be the first to tell you I see first hand the downsides of unions eg; the lazy and inefficient being protected because of their seniority, corrupt union leadership, demanding benefits and healthcare at no cost whatsoever, etc, etc, etc. But the unions themselves are not to blame for the mess we're in now. Labor is an easy scapegoat for the corporations, but ultimately it was their decisions that put them where they're at now.
  10. You must have got that shipment of "Jersey air" that I sent. I warned you not to take it all at once.
  11. One part of me doesn't want them to go under because of all of the people who would lose their jobs BUT... We have no business bailing out private industry, just as I believe we shouldn't have bailed out the financial markets. GM has always been the most arrogant of the big three. Back in the late sixties and early seventies they laughed at a little upstart car company named Toyota, who was offering relatively cheap but well built cars. They weren't laughing in the eighties when Toyota, Datsun (Nissan), Subaru, etc. started kicking their butts by offering superior products at competitive prices. They (the big three) were churning out crap expecting people to buy it because they were "American" cars. Instead of being innovators and industry leaders, they became dinosaurs. Now GM, Ford and Chrysler all have partnerships with the Japanese automakers because it's the only way they could have survived this long. Don't get me wrong, I love this country as much as any of you. But when making a major purchase like a car, why should we have to settle for an inferior product when there are better choices out there. I'm aware that they have improved their product significantly over the years, but have done it grudingly. They became followers instead of leaders. (for the record, we own a Ford Explorer) It was a corporate decision on the big threes part that put them on the path they're on now, they have no one else to blame. If they can't compete, let them and their grossly overpaid CEO'S and boards of directors die off. This is capatalism at work. The same forces that made them fat and lazy are now coming back to get them. It disturbs me that we were once a nation of inventors, thinkers and doers. Now we've become consumers. Our founding fathers have probably reached Australia by now from spinning in their graves. Apologies for the long rant.
  12. Almost. Working in Brooklyn, got a hotel in Sheepshead Bay that is on the water. Got done early, stopped at the bait store for some clams, got right out to the water. Was fishing for about half an hour when my rod got nailed. I thought a had a small bluefish, but when I got him close to the wall I saw it was a small striper - about 18". Then the little sucker threw the hook! The tide went out a short time later along with the fish, end of fishing for today. Got one more day up here, maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow. Man I'm bummed out
  13. Maybe not "comedians" , But the Three Stooges still tear me up even after seeing all of them 150 times. Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk !! That would be a good thread..."whats your favorite Stooges episode"
  14. Check out the chili recipes on this forum. One other thing - get yourself a crockpot (slow cooker). Easiest way to cook a good meal.
  15. I've heard of that before - that's why I only use ATM'S at my bank or a major store. A lot of people don't know that ATM'S are like candy vending machines - anyone can own one and your bank can't gaurantee you against having your info swiped from a "gypsy" machine. Beware.
  16. It depends on how mechanically inclined you are and if you are confident enough. Having the reel schematic (the blown up view) is a must. Make notes and sketches if neccesary. I have access to a zerox machine at work that can make enlarged images, it's great for schematics. An old ice cube tray is good for keeping the parts organized while your working. Search this site for reel maitenance tips, especially those written by The Reel Mechanic - he knows his stuff.
  17. Bon Voyage ! Better take a pole with you. Nothing worse than soggy sandwiches in the middle of the Atlantic, may need to catch some critters. Robert - Any idea how they got your info ? Amex is one of the more secure cards out there. Good to see them looking out for you.
  18. What he said
  19. There's a boat leaving Brooklyn tonight......
  20. I wonder if he got his 72 virgins yet ?
  21. Let the games begin........
  22. High fructose corn syrup is bad stuff and it is in just about everything we eat, even breads and other things you wouldn't think had sweeteners in them. Avoid it when you can.
  23. Nice. Is chorizo Mexican sausage ? What does the corn meal do -is it for flavor or consistency ?
