I'm all spinning, though I flirted with bc back in the late eighties. Had some fun with it, but never really stuck with it. I probably will get a bc this season for when the puddles I fish turn into a soggy salad. The bc gear is so much better now than twenty years ago. I'm with Stu on the "fun" aspect of it all. I fish for fun, not to make a living. I absolutely love ultra light spinning gear. A three # plus fish on ultra light or light spinning tackle is something to be experienced. If the bass bite is off, I'll go after crappie or big gills. It's all good to me.

So the ferrule has a somewhat (if slight) "stiffening" effect on the rod ? Or a slight "interuption" in the overall curve when the rod is loaded ?

I've got way more spinning experience than bc, perhaps I shouldn't even be responding but here goes: Your on the right track going with quality spinning gear, don't forget quality line is equally critical. Pay attention to the line ratings on the rod and reel. Get into the habit of manually closing the bail after EACH cast. Don't use the handle to snap the bail shut. Don't overfill the spool when putting line on. In my opinion, these two things will eliminate 90% of line problems. Certain lures are notorious for causing line twist, mostly in line spinners such as Mepps, Rooster tails, Panther Martins, etc. Using quality BALL BEARING swivels helps greatly. Don't shy away from these baits because of this, they are excellent fish catchers. From what I've read on this site, casting light baits with baitcasters is possible as long as the proper gear is used. I would guess experience with bc gear is vital when attemptig this. I routinely throw baits as small as 1/32oz with my ultra lite gear with 4# test mono with no problem. I throw larger baits with my heavier spinning gear equally as well. I plan on finally getting into baitcasters this season to open up some new doors for me. Spend the winter reading the articles and archives here. This is by far the best fishing site I've found. I had the oppurtunity to work on a railway project here in New Jersey. Many of the technicians and engineers were from Germany. Great bunch of guys, I learned alot from them. They told me in Germany, ANY references to Nazis, swasticas, Heil Hitler salutes, etc is dealt with swiftly and harshly. It is not tolerated at all. While wer'e talking about Germany, did you know in order to get a fishing license there you must pass a written test ?

The first Christmas we were married 14 years ago I got her about $250 worth of Victoria's Secret stuff. Lets just say the night did NOT go as planned. She does have a sense of humor, however. One Mother's day a few years ago I went to the supermarket. This is a large one that has a floral department. I got a mop then stood in line at the floral counter to have a fancy bow put on it. I heard every comment you could think of while in line. (of course I had a nice little box from the jewelry store hidden at home. I'm not a TOTAL idiot) We still laugh about that one.

This country is hypocritical when it comes to drugs. I'm not for or against drugs, that's a different discussion. What I can't figure out is how we as a society are supposed to be anti drug, but the pharmceutical and liquor industries are allowed to bombard us with endless advertising. You can't have it both ways. So, in other words, its not ok to smoke marijuana, but by all means go and get a prescription ?! :-?

I gather up all my torn plastics and otherwise busted up baits along with a tube of superglue and Frankenstein up some pretty wild looking things. Some of them even catch fish ;D I got an idea in my head for a topwater bait that I convinced myself will be a killer. Who knows, maybe I'll get filthy rich on it.(yeah, ok) Will start work on the prototype in a few days. Time on your hands can be a dangerous thing.
