It's important to keep the hook covered with the bait as much as possible because once they sense the metal they will reject the bait. I learned this from an old timer when I was a kid. My father used to make up some concoction in a frying pan that had, among other things, oatmeal, syrup and cornmeal. Whatever it was it worked.
  2. Spinning or casting ? If spinning, it's an awesome reel. Don't know anything about the casting model.
  3. Details please. Length ? Thick head ? Thick or thin walls ?
  4. That's my biggest beef with Flooger. They are WAY behind the rest of the pack when it comes to left hand. It's a shame, they make nice reels.
  5. Had me hooked... Three rednecks sitting in the bar discussing their wives. First one says "I think my old lady is runnin' behind my back with the plumber. I found a pipe wrench under the bed and I don't own a pipe wrench" Second one says "Now that you mention it, I think mine's got something going with the mailman. I found a bunch of mail under the bed that didn't belong at our address" The third one says "Y'all think you got it bad ? I think my wife is cheating on me with a horse !" The other two just about choke on their beers until one recovers enough to say "What the hell are you talking about ?" "Yeah, the other day I found a jockey hiding under my bed"....
  6. We all face the same conditions -good and bad - from time to time. Heat, cold, drought, weather fronts, we all get them and have to adjust. In my experience up here, a violent aggressive strike usually means a small to average bass. A majority of my larger bass (4 to 5 lbs) were barely noticeable when they took the bait.
  7. I'm the father of two girls myself. Best wishes to everyone
  8. A very light coating of oil should not affect an arb. The needles need to work freely within the bearing cage for an arb to work properly. Grease, on the other hand, will adversely affect an arb. Check to see if you lost a needle or two out of the cage, or if somehow grease got in there. (a metal needle can hide in a tin turkey pan pretty well) If ok on both, go fishing.
  9. The Allman Brothers Band Live at the Fillmore East. Don't forget the live tracks from Eat A Peach, which were Fillmore cuts that didn't make the Fillmore record. No cd's in those days..
  10. I can hear the snickers, but white Mr. Twisters have saved many a day for me.
  11. I may have been behind you once on the Jersey 'pike. About three miles back in the line of cars that was following you. The date was May 2, 2003. As for hobbies, it's golf, travel, puttering around the yard, tinkering, and once in a while video games, the role playing variety. Yeah, it was probably me. I was probably destroying the stalls in the rest stops, rendering them useless for everyone else. Another hobby of mine....
  12. Filing nuisance lawsuits Joining forums for things I know nothing about and annoying people Parking in handicap spaces and jogging into the store in plain view of everyone Going through the express lane with too many items and paying with change Doing 40 in the fast lane while talking on my cell phone
  13. Was that you or someone else ? I know nothing about firearms but even I know that aint good...everyone alright ?
  14. That pretty much sums up the fishing scene in Jersey this season :'( The heat, along with the drought have really made the bass lethargic, especially in shallow waters. Frogs or other "scum baits" would be the way to go as already said. The temp cooldown we've been having should help a bit. We need rain though, lots of it. As for the trout, depending on the stocking schedule for that particular lake, they likely are gone by now. Between being caught, getting eaten by predators and the heat, they don't stand a chance. However, when conditions improve, baits that mimic trout should do well for you in that lake.
  15. Man, there are some smart people on this site. Kind of kills the stereotype of the fisherman being some dummy sitting on a bucket tossing worms into the water all day, doesn't it ?
  16. My buddy caught what would likely have been a state record for New Jersey (estimated at well over 10 lbs) last October fishing during a Nor'easter. (If you're curious, it was on one of *** 4" Disc Tubes) I know another guy who got his pb in December a few years back. Late season fishing rocks Cart7 nailed it. Fewer people on the water, fewer bugs, not being baked to death, all the colors...
  17. He's not kidding. Or you could really get serious and use metal polish and a Dremel tool with the felt polishing wheel. Then apply a clear coat when done.
  18. Right on. My wife and I get complimented often on how well behaved our daughters (14 and 12) are, like it's some kind of miracle or something It's real simple. They learned early on we don't take bs. We laugh at the over educated "experts" (I hate that word) that preach against discipline and think time outs and discussions are the way to go. You can see the results of that way of thinking everywhere you go anymore. Ever watch a kid rip mom or dad a new one in public when something doesn't go their way ? And they stand there and take it ? Makes me want to slap the parents and then the kid...
  19. Didnt OJ pawn his Heisman trophy? Or sell it on eBay or something? ;D Yeah. He needed the money to finance his search for the 'real' killer....

  21. Wow. Lets dump untold amounts of oil in your beloved fishing waters of Tennessee and see if you have that same opinion. That's what Rush Limbaugh said and he's always right : Yeah, anyone that was critical of any aspect of the spill is just a tree hugging enviro wacko.
  22. The NFL has no grasp of reality when it comes to scheduling.
