  1. Get out there now!! We've needed this rain badly. The fish are coming out of their heat wave/drought comas and are much more active now. You should be able to hook up on just about anything you throw. Stick with the areas that were productive for you before. Dark water generally calls for dark baits, but that's not written in stone. I'll bet they would go for a big fat grub rigged on a jighead about now...
  2. Down to the frame. Remove as much grease and dirt as you can before putting the parts in to keep the solvent cleaner longer.
  3. This guy is funny. The song is a bit dated, just substitute some of today's annoying celebs with the has beens and it works out...
  4. It's that stupid "Congratulations, you're the 100,000th visitor" ad that's been screaming at me for a few days now. :
  5. In certain rough areas up here, Mexicans were routinely attacked by another minority group because they often carried large sums of cash. They never reported the robberies as many of them were undocumented/illegal and didn't want to draw attention to themselves. They began to form "gangs" mostly in an effort to protect themselves, that's where the MS 13 rumors started around here. That's how it was explained to me by a neighbor who is also a local cop.
  6. That's the mentality that makes me not even consider them when buying a reel.
  7. Same thing happened to me in Philadelphia recently. The officer promptly showed up and shot all of the windows out of my car.
  8. Same here... :-/ I fish along side a lot of shore anglers and i can tell you 75% of them are meat hunters.Even had a few get mad at me when they see me releasing a good size bass. Then i get bugged by them to give them my next catch. I like the dirty looks from the ones that don't even have a fishing license. That takes huge balls to ask for another man's catch when you don't have a license.
  9. Considering trailer wheels spin much faster and turn many more revolutions due to their smaller diameter, a fresh set of bearings are cheap insurance and piece of mind.
  10. That's an awesome fish. Nice job. That's one fish I'd like to catch before I die. I'll just have to make due with pickerel on light tackle until then :'(
  11. Your favorite plastic in a natural color (greens, browns, etc) should do well. Noisy hardbaits in charteuse are another option.
  12. Be sure and order a diet soda to wash it down. They sell soda in 5 gallon buckets now with a length of PVC to suck it down.
  13. Don't you love the beauty of simplicity ? Well done, Rhino.
  14. 10# is too heavy for a spinning reel. 8# is the outer limit for me. That's most likely the cause of his line troubles. I went to braid on my spinning outfits and never looked back. Use a leader as needed. As Bass Brat said, they're all in the same ballpark these days, although I have a $40 Pflueger Trion that I'll put up against anything. You DO NOT need to spend top $$ to get a good reel.
  15. Gotta love the Fin's lure,Old and True.I don't know how you hook them,But I put the hook into the nose and out the side of the body. The further you put the hook back,in my opinion is the better action, jumping out of the water like a wounded bait fish. You could hook one blindfolded like a kid playing pin the tail on the donkey and still catch fish.

True. There are no Hardees up here, but McDonalds, Wendys and BK's every 4 miles and they all suck. I'd trade all of them for 1 Hardees...
  17. This is the time of year for these. I'd go with anything 5" or larger: http://www.lunkercity.com/ff.html Go with a 4/0 to 5/0 ewg hook with the gap slightly opened with pliers to greatly improve hooksets.

These are good. Really, really good... I could get fat on these things, http://www.grubgrade.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/img_2318.jpg
  19. Nice.... My buddy got his pb last October during a Nor'Easter. Foul weather fishing can pay off big time.
  20. 4# on a 5" fluke last night. At a tiny pond in front of an industrial park of all places ;D Felt good to get a fish on that worked my drag. Haven't had that since the spring. Got a few more in the 1-2# range, then switched to my ul rig. Throwing a 1/16 oz jighead with a 2" crappie slider I got crushed. Hello 12" slab crappie. Add a few more bass on the ul and it was a pretty good night overall. That definitely got me pumped after getting my rear kicked for most of this summer.
  21. Larger ones will eat just about anything on a 1/16 oz jighead. Tiny Rapala Original Floaters run just under the surface, tiny crankbaits, the list goes on. Gills aren't very particular about what they eat.
  22. A good idea in theory that likely won't work. 30,000 members registered, only a small percentage participate on the forums. Maybe a few more that use the site for info but don't post. Magazines as a whole are tanking these days, they're for the most part money losers. The ones that are left are shells of their former selves. The internet is going to be the death of print media. This site as it stands is way more resourceful than a magazine.
