Inline spinners are a good bait. A top quality ball bearing (not a barrel swivel!) swivel goes a long way toward helping line twist. Too many people look down on them as amateur or beginner lures. One way to fish them is to rip them to break the surface of the water, then let them flutter down. It seems to be the only bait that (for me) occasionally gets crushed the second it hits the water.

True or false - Braid will inhibit the diving depth of cranks due to it's tendency to float. In other words, a crank rated for 6' may only dive 5' or less with braid.

It's not a lock, but the odds are against you. Automatic transmissions can develop a 'varnish' internally over time as the transmission fluid breaks down. As long as this varnish stays in a hardened state, it's relatively harmless. Transmission fluid contains a fair amount of detergents and other cleaning agents. If the service intervals are ignored and the first transmission fluid change is performed late in the transmission's life, the old varnish deposits can be lifted away by the fresh fluid and that's when the trouble begins. The filter clogs, then slipping and clutch plate burning follow. (yes, there are clutch plates inside your automatic transmission. Think drag stack on your baitcaster) Like I said, this is not written in stone but it happens more often than not.

Unscrew the aforementioned screw, grasp the side plate and twist in a counter clockwise direction. The first time may be a little tough, but that's all there is to it.

I posted two years ago about a local sand quarry that had been bought by a developer. The lake on the property was one of the best fishing spots around, with plenty of 5 - 7 lb bass in the mix. Big pickeral too. Well, the project apparently tanked. They never got beyond brush clearing and bulldozing roads for the construction vehicles. The "Coming soon" sign is all but weathered away. The construction office trailer is long gone. It's fishin' time again Two years of virtually no fishing means the fish are nice and aggresive. I'm gonna enjoy this until the bitter end until (hopefully not) the next developer takes over the site.

That about sums it up. This is my first season using a bc reel ('09 Revo STX) and I was told pretty much the same thing. It's worked out very well for me and I often throw tubes with a 1/8 oz. weight in the 60' range. Heavier baits are no trouble at all. Of course I get an occasional overrun, but nothing I can't pick out within seconds. It's lack of experience on my part, not the reel's fault. If a bc noob like me can figure out a Revo, they can't be that bad.

Are you performing the repairs yourself ? A word of caution concerning the transmission fluid change. If you've never done it on the scheduled intervals up until this point, don't start now. Trans failure almost sure to follow.

I own a St. Croix Avid, which in my opinion is a fantastic rod. It's a replacement for the original which broke last season. I told St. Croix the break may well have been my fault, I wasn't 100% sure as the break occured at night. I may have had the braid wrapped around the tip. Anyhow, they replaced it no questions asked, so big points for St. Croix. This season I have started using a Falcon Lowrider, which so far I love. Good choice, being that they're herbivores. Rest easy knowing you can have one in your trunk all day and they won't eat your intestines.

I went wading after an XCalibur lipless crank I lost, only to lose it for good the next day at another lake > So I ordered three more Sunday.

It's fun, aint it ? Nothing like decent size bass crushing a crank. Get yourself an XCalibur xrk50 One Knocker lipless crankbait for when they don't want a traditional loud rattling bait. It comes through grass like nobody's business and the stock hooks are brutally sharp.

Start out lobbing the bait until you get your release time down. Don't go for distance right away, work your way into it slowly. Don't forget the rod is a critical part of the equation here. If it can't load the bait properly, it will make casting very difficult and the reel usually gets all of the blame. Pay attention to the lure weight ratings on the rod.
