  1. The ultimate 'doghouse' You'd pick a fight with the old lady on purpose just to get tossed out of the house for a while.... :
  2. If you have access to the large rolls of shrinkwrap that they use to wrap around cartons on a pallet, grab some. The look on their face when they see their entire vehicle wrapped wheels to roof is priceless.
  3. I'm new to braid this year myself. At first I hated it but for me the addition of a mono leader has made all the difference. I get the shock absortion and invisibility of mono with the strength and sensitivity of braid.
  4. Good advice so far. Add to that ALWAYS close the bail by hand after casting. NEVER use the handle to snap the bail shut. Although I will do that as an 'emergency brake' if I see my bait heading for the trees or other obstruction.....
  5. I'm looking to get cranks to work for me also. To add to retiredbosn's confusion, why are low ratio reels (5:1 for example) recommended for cranks ? Wouldn't that keep the crank from getting to it's desired depth ? I've also read up on them a lot and still have a ton of questions. I'm one of those hardheads who has to actually fish a bait to figure it out. I understand the theories and all of that, I just learn it quicker on the water. I also would like to know if there's a way to silence the rattles in them. I'm not a fan of rattling baits and every crank I own has them
  6. The Supreme is an awesome reel but not the best choice for saltwater due to it's magnesium construction.
  7. Check out the Pflueger Supreme. Super light magnesium, butter smooth drag, and probably one of the best bails out there.
  8. or the Flyres vs the men in stripes > You got that right. Here's to them having a good season...
  9. My thoughts exactly. His gets laughed at and thought of in the same way as the Banjo Minnow. This one is from Japan and will probably sell like crazy :
  10. One of the few baits that gets me ZERO, although I'm determined to change that. I figured it was lack of structure in my waters, but reading this thread shoots that theory down..... :-/ I've read that fall is an especially good time for cranks. Maybe I'll change my luck in the next several weeks. BTW, why does nearly every crank have a rattle in it ? Are there times when not having it is an advantage ?
  11. Here's one we did to a guy at a house in the mountains..... He was on about his eighth beer sitting in the hot tub out on the lower patio. We were directly above him on the second floor deck. We tied a 7" rubber worm onto a piece of mono. We then figured out when he was directly below us by looking through the spaces between the deck boards. One of the guys was down below with a camcorder to get his reaction. We shoved the worm through the space between the boards, hovered it above him then let it drop on him. He screamed like a girl, jumped up and fell on his face trying to get out of the hot tub. One of the funniest d**n things we ever saw ;D
  12. NHL Philadelphia Flyers vs just about any other team (especially the NY Rangers)
  13. Well, there is the old 'saran wrap across the toilet bowl' trick..... : Here's a good one. It requires at least a couple of the guys to be in on it. You need a long funnel, the kind with a long skinny body. It's commonly called a transmission funnel. You place the funnel down the front of your pants. Next you tilt your head back, close your eyes and balance a quarter on your chin. Then slowly tilt your head forward. The object is to get the quarter to fall into the funnel. Have some of the other guys that are in on the joke whoop it up and take turns trying. This is done to get one of the potential victims interested. Once you've got the victim stoked, the fun begins. Once he has the funnel in his pants and his head back with his eyes closed, pour a glass of water into the funnel.
  14. Best of luck and good fortune to him........
  15. Just last week my buddy snagged a nasty ol' pair of boxers. Yuck
  16. Lubrication is the cooling and separation of moving parts. That's it. Period. I see the same BS in the engine world. Lubricants with teflon additives, super molecular blah blah blah...... It's quite a process to bond teflon to metal. It's not going to happen by adding it to a lubricant. Even with the heat and pressure of an engine, teflon particles make their way to the oil filter where they accomplish nothing but prematurely clog the filter. I cant see where adding it to reel lube will accomplish anything.
  17. I won't do it but I know people who swear by it.
  18. 3 lb pack of ground beef. Breadcrumbs, a couple of eggs, and whatever seasonings you have on hand. Make a truckload of meatballs. Bake them then freeze them. Large can of crushed tomatoes can be had for a buck on sale. Same for a 1 lb box of pasta. Lots of filling meals there and spaghetti makes for good leftovers..... A crock pot is a great budget way to cook tasty meals . You really can't screw them up and cheaper (tougher) cuts of beef will be fork tender after 5 - 6 hours of slow cooking.
  19. Got my first jig fish this year by sticking with it.
  20. Another vote for the Husky Jerk. Another overlooked one is the Yo - Zuri Pin's Minnow. That one has always been a killer for me.
  21. Been to the one in Baltimore once and Ft. Lauderdale several times. Both times I was working and my hotel was close by, so I would wander the aisles after dinner. It's neat to do a few times. BTW, the Lauderdale one has a pretty good restaurant attached to it. I think it was called the Islamorada Fish Company or something like that.
  22. I went pond hopping last night with my ultra light rig to see what I could hook up with. Just for kicks I had some Net Bait Paca Chunk bodies that had the arms bitten off while using them as jig trailers while bass fishing. I rigged them onto a 1/16 oz jighead and the fish went for them ! They still had that stink to them so I'm sure that was part of it. I caught several LMB and crappie on them. Double the life of those baits. Recycle them !
  23. Whatever you do, make sure you put mono on first as a backing or the braid will spin around on the spool. Then you will think your drag is bad. I fill my spool about halfway with mono and then use a blood knot to attach to the braid and then finish spooling from there. It really doesn't matter how you spool braid, it will not twist on you. It's a waste of money to fill most of the spool with braid (IMO) as you will never get down to the mono backing while fishing normally. Lastly I use a leader with braid. I happen to use mono. A lot of guys use fluorocarbon. It comes down to personal preference. Google 'leader to braid knots' and their are lots of good sites that will show you the proper knots.
  24. Ok, so I'm not an adult film stunt double..... : Diesel engine field service tech. We'll go anywhere and work on diesels. We work on what's classified as 'off highway', which means marine, construction, mining, standby generators, etc.
