  1. Now I understand where the phrase "***t the bed" came from........
  2. Inline spinners.
  3. I've caught enough keeper size bass and pickeral on 1/16 oz jigheads with a variety of plastics (2" Senkos, 1.5" to 2" tubes for example) to know it's no fluke. Big fish will hit small baits all year long. The library on this site has several good articles about light fishing, especially the one written by Craig DeFronzo. http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/light_line.html
  4. Old timers rule. That guy has probably forgotten more about fishing than most of us remember. I'd take someone like that out for a steak dinner just to hear his fishing stories.
  5. Apply Rain X as per the directions. Do all of the windows and mirrors, not just the windshield. Make sure the glass is spotless before applying. There's a glass cleaner made by Stoner that is top shelf.
  6. As I answered in the first version of this thread, 1/8 to 1/4 tube jigs (exposed hooks) jigged in open water. The same rig can be drug along the bottom if there's no grass or weeds to hang it up. Vary the retrieve; yo yo, swim it straight, jerk it up off of the bottom, etc. When rigged weightless, a lot of tubes stay on or near the surface. At times this rig can be a jackpot. Just twitch it ever so slightly and hold on. The tubes I gave you a link to have enough weight to them to get good distance. In my opinion, tubes are a lot like senkos in that you really can't fish them wrong. I even have used them as jig trailers in a pinch and they have put fish in the boat. I'll take tubes over worms any day.
  7. These have caught me a ton of fish. The quality and price can't be touched. http://*.com/disctube I fish them on 1/8 to 1/4 tube jigs and because of the thick head I can rig them weedless on 3/0 Gammy EWG hooks when conditions call for weedless. I throw them with spinning gear, a 6'6" Avid MF.
  8. Anyone up for a "Missouri boatride ?".....
  9. Believe me , it's not your fault that this is going bad. X2. You did nothing wrong. You had an issue and informed us about it WITHOUT injecting needless bias. You followed the rules. I guess the rules only apply on an as needed basis......
  10. Wow. I wonder if this thread was about another brand would it have been allowed to go on for five pages ? :-? Constructive criticism is one thing but this is ridiculous. The integrity of the site suffers when this crap is allowed to go on. I feel for you Quantum fans. You are welcome to join us Flooger guys at the back of the bus. We'll hold a seat for ya'......
  11. That is a good deal.... I just got an STX from TW for $135, but than again there are no Gander Mountains up here.
  12. The Paca's and the Rage Tail's work equally well for me. I've also used tubes as a trailer when I ran out of regular trailers and they work fine. One thing I have noticed is the Rage's are more durable than the Paca's. The Rage's are more $$, but they don't seem to get the claws bitten off nearly as much.
  13. The fresh ingredients are a must. Here's some things I use in my chili that sets it apart from most: Get some thick sliced bacon. Cut it into 1/2" long chunks, then fry it up. DO NOT OVERCOOK !! You dont want it crispy. Keep the pan with the bacon grease for the next step. Get some beef cubes. Get the ones that are marbled with a little bit of fat, not the extra lean. Cut them into bite size pieces, then brown them in the bacon fat. 99% of people use ground beef in their chili, which is fine. The beef chunks are a nice change. Then the bacon and beef go into the crock pot along with all of your other ingredients (spices, tomato paste, peppers, celery, etc.) I cook mine on low overnight. The last thing I add is pearl onions. I try to get them fresh as I despise canned vegetables of any kind. Yes it's a lot of work peeling all of those little bite size onions but it's worth it. Put them in for the last two hours. Any longer and they lose their crunch and turn to mush. Now you're eatin'....
  14. I sent the rod out on 10/6 ($10 shipping through their Fed Ex shipping discount program ) They recieved it 10/9 I got a call from them today that they will be replacing the rod under warranty. He also explained the upgrade program where I could trade up the Avid to a higher end model if I wanted, paying the difference based on a pro rated scale. I chose not to at this time, but the option is always available. They were great people to deal with. This is my first high end rod and the first time dealing with them for a warranty issue. They treated me right and I'll be buying more of their rods in the future.
  15. Not really. Years ago I lived in an apartment complex where people would steal your clothes out of the laundry room if you weren't there to keep an eye on them. The worst part is that it wasn't low income housing or anything like that, they were actually higher end apartments :-?
  16. Thanks for the replies. I spoke to them this morning by phone. Great people. I'm shipping it out to them wrapped in foam pipe insulation inside a PVC tube.
  17. Ever leave one hanging in the aisle of a supermarket only to have some innocent person walk into it ? It's worth a peek around the corner to see the reaction
  18. :'( She broke at the tip tonight. Not a clean break, it kind of splintered. I'm bummed out. My first high end rod and it's been a great one for me. Not sure if it's a defect or something I did. I'm sure they'll figure that out. I'm sure the fine people at St. Croix will take care of me. I still have the trusty Triumph as a backup....
  19. Just curious....what's the nature of the reject ? cosmetic ? flaw in the cork ?
  20. Just a thought... Try a drop of oil on the line roller at the end of the bail wire.
  21. That sux. Now you can start that workout regimen...... :
  22. Good tip, but if you have a small boat a cooler may take up too much space. I stuck rectangular pieces of styrofoam to the wall of my jon boat with velcro. Reduces clutter and you can hang a bunch of lures you think you may be using on the trip. An added bonus is it keeps you from banging a tackle box around making noise.
  23. I owned one for 18 months (6' ul 2 piece). It was a great rod for the money. Then last June while fishing with it it snapped clean between the top guide and the next one down. I wasn't fighting a fish or pulling on a snag - it just broke. BPS wouldn't do anything for me, but that's another story. I caught literally hundreds of fish on it from panfish to a huge foul hooked brown carp without any troubles. As for the reel seat, mine would loosen up from time to time. That's easily fixed by wrapping teflon tape around the threads to take up the clearance between the nuts and the threads. Teflon tape has no adhesive on it so you can take it off whenever and not have any residue to deal with.
  24. Went out in the rain last night. Had one of those rare outings where they hit everything I threw. Jig with a Rage Tail trailer, tube rigged weightless and a Rapala Husky Jerk. It was a numbers night, no toads but still fun.
  25. The wacky rig is a perfect example. That was allegedly 'invented' by an inexperienced fisherman on a guided fishing trip. Always think beyond the boundaries.
