  1. after happy hr.
  2. A good stiff long rod works very well. I use 7'+ rods for this. Short stubby rods just dont get the job done. Poor hook sets IMO There are alot of "extras" also. how your plastic is rigged, streach of line, weight of lure, and a few more. Like Catt said. Practice.
  3. I've seen this topic pop up on different brands and models of hooks over the years. I'm starting to suspect its a lose knot slipping. I've fished alot of different types of hooks and some had the big gap. I've never had this problem on any brand of hook. Is it possible. I guess it is but I've just never seen it happen or ever had it happen. When I lose a hook at the knot typically the line wears through from my lazyness of retying. I can see that the loops on the line have worn and broke. I've never had one just slip off.
  4. Way I see this issue is: Dont run a red light and you wont ever have to worry about it. There are a few intersections near me that always have wrecks. It gets real old sitting in traffic because someone doesnt wait a minute and just runs the red. Is 1-2 minuts really worth a wreck or 100 $ fine(whatever they are). I guess I'm really not in that big of a hurry.
  5. thanks for saving me the cash. I'll go buy some fishing stuff. 8-)
  6. tent is what I normally use. I tried the truck and I'm to tall. ;D
  7. I've been thinking about making my own cranks but I've got so many hobbies now I cant keep up and my artistic skill is zero
  8. stamina sells some styles in bulk. I bought some Gamies awhile back from them. It really depends on how many you are going to buy. Shopping around for awhile on the net might save some bucks.
  9. pretty wild big m. Nice painting.
  10. paitently waiting those pics. Tap Tap Tap. ;D
  11. RW, what to resturants? If I see it I'll try some.
  12. sometimes bps will have it but your better off ordering it from Del, lurecraft, MF. or others. Delmart is where I get most of my stuff.
  13. better yet take that monthy payment and put it on your principle and own that house by time your 35 ;D
  14. LOL, I hear ya. I had some special skirt material. The kind never seen before. I made 2 jigs with it. My luck plus something really cool. Yeah 3 casts lost the 2 jigs to rocks. Thats my kind of luck. RW, you ever throw Football jigs in the river?
  15. It all varies on application imo. I made some jigs for a gentleman that I considered ultra finesse. I made a few different thicknesses of skirts to see what I liked the best. With the 1/0 hook we used and his application I liked the look of a aprox 22 strand skirt. These little jigs are neat. I would think it would be a creek/small river fishermans dream jig. I do not like too have too thick of a skirt. most of them I make range from 44-50 strands it gives it a good body with a trailer. That # of strands is what I use 99.9% of the time. I have made skirts thicker and used them up to 66 and 88. I didnt notice any difference in catch %'s. It all stayed the same for me. I've had some requests for real thick skirts so I do make them. I just dont fish them anymore after trying them both. Some may have a different opinion but I stick with what works for me. 44-50 strands is my go to # for jiggin. PS, yes you can have to many strands. Fartin around I put about 150 or so on a jig once. Looked like a bush. Never fished it just tinkering. LOL
  16. Yup, been using them for several years or so now. I really like them. The point is completely different then say a gami. I do not like gami hooks for jigs. I've had problems with the point bending since they are thinner. From Mustad site: The ULTRAPOINT three-stage grinding technology produces an incredibly sharp needle point, but because more of the metal remains the point won't roll or lose sharpness keeping that sticky sharpness for longer. And its true from what I've found.
  17. awesome lures Harshman. I really like those spinner blades.
  18. xpoints for most of my applications.
  19. Mustad ultrapoints with a flat eye. all sizes have a 4/0 hook in them. its a 60 deg hook. I'm still workin on the site and appologize for some of the pics not being there. I use the ultra point for all my jigs. Its a good hook that keeps a sharp point. Thanks for all the kind words guys.
  20. Looks like they are having alot of fun. Always good to see.
