Line size..
Depends on line diameter. If you go with a thin diameter line, your 10lb line may be as thin as 6lb so your casting ability will be enhanced over say a thicker diameter line

The Hunt For Big Bass
Abel, I write for many sites. Go to my home site micromunchtackle.com....click on the link at the end of the article......when you get to the site, enter the fresh water section and look for a link entitled WormHole articles. I currently have about 50 articles published in the past 3 years. I write a lot of stuff and many articles I've yet to publish. I'll keep on putting them up here.

Worlds Best Lure Exhibit
looking forward to seeing it. Old tackle is interesting to look at and compare what some baits evolved into.

World record bass..or is it????
Just a consideration, originally before bass fishing was even thought of as a sport, the native range of the fish was very limited. It had been stocked in the 1800's by railcar....essentially guys smuggled a few dozen fish in the water tender and dropped them into ponds. It's distribution throughout much of the South, all of the West and Midwest and some of the North was the result of illegal intoductions. So judging by what some guys are saying, the real world record fish should only be recognized in an area that this fish is truly native to??? OK, this means that the 22-4 might not be the true record and one from say, Ma. at about 12lbs should qualify??? I think not, as long as a fish isn't genetically altered, and is not reared in a tank it should count if caught by rod and reel. I highly doubt that the current record is even accurate as well. 1932, no fish had come close to it until the mid 80's??? C'mon, Georgia and not Florida or Texas?? Those trout fed California bass are not native yet take advantage of a trout stocking program and get very big. I'd lover to spend a year fishing those small waters. I fish here in NY just like that.

The Hunt For Big Bass
Raul, good post. I'm currently reading an old book by Bud Andrews, he is an old timer and guide in Florida, about 5 miles from where I'm building my new house. He is likely the premier big bass angler for catching 10+ largemouths on artificial lures in Florida. I'm amazed that many of the things he talks about, I have come to do almost instinctively over the years. I look forward to getting down there and tangling with bigger fish. You are 100% correct about using some smaller baits and slowing down your retrieve.

Paint for Jig Heads???
You know what I think about this!!! Moat guys who powder paint do not cure them in the oven like you are supposed to. I do. I don't have any problems with the paint chipping off.

Bank Fishing vs. Boat Fishing
With bank fishing, you are forced to slow down and you don't have the ability or desire to burn up water quickly like you do in a boat. It is very easy to get caught up in moving around alot when you have that ability.

"The Hunt For Big Bass"
I can't take credit for it although I kind of came up with it on my own, I'm sure somewhere, someone did it long before me. I'm really looking forward to making a few more of those in Florida! Glad you guys liked it.

Three lures to start every day
When I tournament fish, I may have 20+ rods on the boat but I stick mainly with a 4 rod rotation of: Black jig n pig, Roadkill Tube, Salty Stinker Stickbait(like a Senko) and a 3/8oz Spinner bait. If I had to eliminate 1, likely the tube would go. Maybe.

"The Hunt For Big Bass"
Thanks K...did you like the part about string bridges? When the guys in my club saw that they got mad because I never told them I was fishing those spots when they were on my boat.

Why did this fish bite?
Buck bass are notoriously aggressive when guarding the nest, that is absolutely why he smacked your bait.

Resource question?
FOM, do a search on New Hampshire and you can find out about the ban on lead based fishing weights. There are decades worth of studies that indicate lead has harmed waterfowl, likely due more to lead shot than weights, it is pretty interesting to see how many states in the NE are considering adopting some type of lead restrictions within the next few years.
