To the OP - you wanted to know what people were basing their negative opinions on regarding Quantum reels, and the members have responded. I believe you get what you pay for. If you purchase an entry level reel, you'll get an entry level product. If you purchase the higher end gear and take reasonable care in maintaining it, it should last and perform accordingly. That's my opinion - I have up wards of 20 Quantum Casting / Spinning reels. I have not seen any of the problems listed here but have been satisfied with the performance of these reels from day one. And then there's this ~ In general, an opinion is a subjective belief, and is the result of emotion or interpretation of facts. I have to agree with you. Burning a spinnerbait is really tough to beat ~ because the strike is just so darn violent. The all white double willow bladed bait is my weapon of choice here. But a wide open top water bite does come is at a very close second. The swish - swish - swish side to side glide of a big Zara Spook followed by that inevitable explosion as a big fat brown bass climbs all over it - well that's a heart stopper. A-Jay

Well sounds like you're making some progress. Puking 1 mile into your run test is not good. Could be you made poor choices for your pre-test meal or it could be you started out too fast. It certainly indicates that for whatever reason, you still have allot of work to do. At this point you should be running this test every other day; The whole test, every other day. Then come test day, it just another training day - you'll pass it no problem. Participating in any training other than the 3 disciplines required for the test at this point will be counterproductive. 16:36 is 60% at your age group. 13:38 is 100%. As a side note, next time you get a "side stitches like a mother bleeper" KEEP RUNNING ! No one's ever died from it. You know the saying "Pain is just weakness leaving your body" Keep at it - It's all about willingness - what are you willing to endure to succeed ? A-Jay

I'm an Old Town 150ss owner and big fan as well. I fish from it all day - standing, so stability is not an issue. This model has a 40" beam. A-Jay

Sizes 1, 2, and 4 should cover it., and you might not need the 4's. 1's for the series 6's, 2's for the lipless baits and 4's if the baits are on the smaller side. Some guys prefer a smaller size on the back. If that's the case, hang the 1's in front and the 2's in back and on the lipless baits, hang the 2's in front and the 4's in back. Good Luck A-Jay

Yup - And despite knowing better - back in the day, I'd been blinded by "Striped Bass Fever" and ended up in at least two situations that I had no right to expect to escape from unharmed. Some how I did and it kept me motivated to be there for others when I could. A-Jay
