  1. Seems we each have our way. I am not a boat flipper: never have - never will. Prefer a landing net and a mat. While removing hooks I take care to handle the fish as little as possible while maintaining control with a boga grip (especially when treble hooks are involved). Quick video or picture includes a two handed thumb and tail supported finger hold again offering minimal handling/contact. A-Jay
  2. Got it. @Way2slow may be able to offer some ideas here, he's done so in the past here. Seems past my most basic diagnostic abolities. Either way hope you can get this resolved soon. A-Jay
  3. Hello and Welcome to Bass Resources ~ Sorry to hear your rig is not performing as you would likecouple of questions for you: how experienced of a boat operator are you ? What is your motor's rpms at wot and are you able to reach them now ? Does your motor have trim capacity and do you know how to use it ? Have you recent hit the bottom or other wise damaged the motor skeg and or prop ? Have you recently replaced your prop ? Answers to these may help get you headed in the roght direction. A-Jay
  4. This one has safely and effectively captured some significant green & brown bass tonnage for me the past few seasons. A-Jay
  5. Fish as early and late into your legal open water bass fishing season as your state's regulations allow. Both offer excellent opportunities to land some of the heaftiest bass of the year. Good Luck A-Jay
  6. @JerryL Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ Interesting premise regarding Mr Perry & his teachings. Clearly this is a older thread and Spoonplugging itself has come & mostly gone, quite a bit of what was initially offered in his writings is IMO applicable today. While I do not fish his baits, I can not completely discount the approach. A-Jay
  7. Morning started out Flat calm with little to no active fish anywhere I checked. Afternoon ended fast & furious as a most welcome SW wind blew right on my favorite flat. The 48 degree water and bright sunshine, just needed the wind. About 30 minutes after it came up, a Lucky Craft 127 jerkbait in natural brown trout pattern worked over 6-8 ft of hard bottom was doing all the heavy lifting, including this perfectly shaped 5-2. Best of this day. A-Jay

  9. Thanks Rick. Clearly, I have a problem. A-Jay
  10. There ya go ! We knew it was only a matter of time. Nicely Done. Tomorrow and most all of next week may be prime time for giants over this way. I might sleep at the ramp. A-Jay
  11. I think your local smb population will find them most appetizing. And just a heads up, they are very soft; allows for super life like movement but they can not be associated with durable at all. Makes a great search drop shot bait. A-Jay
  12. 66 degree water temps here is post spawn. May have males still guarding beds (they will be suicidal) but the fat girls may be sitting back on the first or second break. Put a rage bug on a 1/2 swing head and drag it around, see what happens. I'd suggest sitting shallow and throwing deep. Work up hill. Good luck A-Jay

  14. Early season swimbaits of that size are fished on M fast spinning gear, (St Croix LTB) 10-20 lb braid and and 8-10 lb mono or fc leader. Of particular concern is the hook wire size. Can't be too beefy. As water warm and the smb fight harder and live deeper, I go to a little heavier head and hook wire, 20lb braid and 12 lb mono or fc leader on MF spinning gear and straight 12 lb fc on MHF casting gear. (St Croix LTB) For me, when presenting swimbaits on jigheads, the hooksets are All Reel sets, regardless of the gear I'm using. Feel the bump, keep reeling, rod loads up, keep reeling, I come 'tight' on the fish, keep reeling and fight the fish accordingly. Finally, in a couple of the deeper clear water lakes I fish, this Is The Go To Presentation. Hope that helps. A-Jay

  16. My experience mirror's much of what @Crestliner2008 noted. 'Deep' smallies for me vary by season. 25 to 35 feet is the general deep smb zone. Blade baits, rattle baits fished like a blade bait, and 3 to 4.5 inch paddletail swimbaits on 3/8 to 3/4 oz jig heads do most all my early and late season deep water smb heavy lifting. During warm water periods I'll add a drop shot and a spybait to the deal. On most of the super clear water lakes I'm on, these are my go to drop shot. A-Jay
  17. I will have to agree with @roadwarrior. Tatsu is the real deal, especially on revolving spool gear. I am using and loving it as both main line and leader in several applications. While it does have really good durability and longevity on the reel, the one possible down side is the cost. The price point is up there. As a very close and dynamite alternative, InvisX is great. May not last quite as long on the spool but is close in most all other aspects IMO. However the cost is much more digestible, especially when purchased on bulk spools. A-Jay
  18. For 10 lb mono and braid I use a uni knot. For 10 lb flurocarbon I use a San Diego jam. Which is what I was using two days ago to land this freight train. I see no reason to change. A-Jay
  19. My go to. A-Jay

  21. There ya go. Anything and Everything that does or does not happen is on you. Always has been. Make good decisions and learning from bad ones is part of the process. Stay motivated & disciplined. You're worth it. A-Jay btw I am knocking out total body workouts every other day. Feels good. #fitforlife
  22. Some of what happens seems to depend on what gear I'm using at the time. And it does seem the harder I pull the harder many bigger fish will resist my efforts. When pinned to a plus size bass with somewhat undersized gear, I almost always more successful if I can coax her to the net rather than trying to force her. Like a puppy on a long leash. Either way, I am always amazed just how big a bass can get most all of itself up & mostly if not totally, out of the water. That goes for both green and brown bass and warmer water helps their cause quite a bit. A-Jay
