suspending jerkbaits
While not claiming to be an expert - I fish a jerkbait a good bit, especially early & late in the season. The variety available today is vast to say the least. With a wide array of price point from fairly reasonable to pretty expensive. In many cases the mid to upper end of the spending zone will get you a quality bait with solid hardware. Dipping lower in the zone it's a little more hit or miss for both. That said I fish & have success using many brands & models including but not limited to offerings by, Rapala, Smithwick, Duo Realis, Lucky Craft, and Megabass, All things considered - including price point, the Strike King KVD jerkbait is tough to beat. One can certainly spend less for a decent bait as well as quite a bit more. But that KVD bait has been a solid producer for me. It's one bait that if there is a jerkbait bite happening - it's usually getting wet at some point. A-Jay

Spoolin question
For both spinning & casting reels - I fill approx 1/3 of the spool with mono backing. Pound test of the backing depends on the size of the rig - generally it's 12lb. The top 2/3's of the spool gets the braid, mono or fluorocarbon. I do it this way because at some point that 'top shot' will get a bit worn and rather than tossing it - I will turn it around (end for end it) so the older end is back connected to the mono backing and the newer / unused length of line is on top and ready to fish. Once that end gets worn - I'll toss it all (down to the backing) and spool new line. Having 2/3 of the spool for main line usually keeps me from casting down to the worn/old stuff after I switch it around. I use bulk spools of each type of line I fish. Hope that helps A-Jay

So here's the deal - You're smart. But you have a tendency to over think, because your mind moves at a million miles a minute. You're sad, because you're not fooled by the world like everyone else. Some people don't get you, because they just don't look at things like you do. You think you're dumb, because you're smart enough to know you don't know everything. You're problem is you're too smart. And that's not a problem at all. A-Jay

Alright kayak guys, time for an upgrade - Life Jackets
Good for you - solid plan. I can't recommend a life jacket for kayak use as I don't fish out of one. However, there's plenty of very experience BR Members who do, so I'm sure you'll get a few viable options. btw - interesting that you value your life at "around 50 bucks". So essentially your worth the same as 2 bags of beef jerky & a tank of gas ? A-Jay

Punxsutawney Phil, the world’s most celebrated groundhog, gazed at the ground and beheld his shadow Friday morning. This means six more weeks of frigid winter if you trust the weather forecasting skills of this oversized rodent. At this point - I'm not a fan . . . . . A-Jay

Latest Catch Pics Thread
@deep ~ Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I don't think the +2 would have place in my fishing - so I'll be skipping that one pending further developments. BTW - As long as a jerkbait is splashing and not bouncing - It's Never too cold. A-Jay

Fast or X-Fast action jig rod?
I have that Sweeper rod - it's a pretty sweet stick for what it's designed for - spinnerbaits. But it's closer to a crank bait rod than a jig rod - IMO way too 'slow' and not nearly as stout as the rod I listed above. I'd say - perhaps get over your fear of 'long rods' - there's nothing to be afraid of . . . . A-Jay
