Who let the hawgs out?!
Thanks Yes I do prefer & use braid for open water topwater. I usually need to make very long casts and the braid is king for getting a solid hookup so far out. Using a short 2 or 3 ft mono leader in front of your topwater will solve your braid tangle problems. 12-15 lb should do it. That pop max is a very versatile bait in that you can pop it (obviously) you can walk it & even wake it. But sometimes a single pop & sit for 5 0r 10 seconds then repeat is very effective; especially in calm conditions. A-Jay

1st time home buying
In 2007 (housing crunch - bad) my wife & I both retired from the service while living in NJ. We planned on relocating to MI. I drove back & forth from NJ & MI 3 times that summer and looked at over 70 homes in 8 counties ! All of this while selling our current home in NJ. Additionally, I worked through a complete remodel (and I mean complete) so that we could compete with all the new homes for sale in the area. After a ton of trial & tribulations, we sold our home and found & purchased our current one here in MI. It was a very challenging time in both our lives. But that's when you find out who you are and what you are capable of. Everyone's King of the World when the there are no hurdles in front of them but once those hurdles start to pop up and then they turn into walls - what then ? You adapt & over come that's what. You'll succeed because of what you can & are willing to do - not what you can't or won't do. Good Luck. A-Jay

1st time home buying
Start looking yourself - don't wait for the realtor to find it for you. I'm certainly no expert but after 3 buying three homes (in different states) I've learned that I know I can depend on ME. So I put the time in and eventually found what I was looking for each time. Like any venture, knowledge is confidence. Learn as much as you can about the process and hire your own inspector, not one recommended by the realtor. Finally, you are going to PAY whatever relator you use, and pay them well. Get your money's worth by using someone you like, trust and especially, one you believe has your best interest at heart. Many Don't - Co-worker or not. Good Luck. A-Jay

Favorite Fall Jerkbait Action/Colors
The Perch pattern works well here in Northern MI. As for the cadence - almost anything works when they're on it. But there are times when a particular cadence or length of pause will trigger more bites. Just have to try different deals until you get bit a few times. However . . . . When the water cools down - this is The Way To Go. Works really well with standard depth baits just as well as the Deep Divers. A-Jay

Try adding a few thin strips of black electric tape on the reel seat foot. (may only take one or two) That will take up that extra space and make for a more secure seating of the reel on the rod. A-Jay

What would you do ??
I'd be headed to that lake hoping to bump into a few of those fat fall green bass. Fish should be setting up shallow looking to feed up. With water temps above 55 I'd be wanting to throwing something moving horizontally; a spinnerbait, swim jig, square bill & perhaps a rattle bait. However if the unusually dirty water is present as you've described, I'd switch it up and fish low, but not necessarily slow. Fishing in & around shallow cover could be the deal. Maybe some wood ? Jigs almost always play in that scenario. Might be all about mid-depth flats with decent deep water close but and with shallow feeding areas up front. Could be especially attractive if the weeds are dying off causing the bait to reposition. Bass will be no doubt be close by. Lastly, if the water is not as dirty as expected but does have a little color - break out that umbrella rig and have at it ! Good Luck A-Jay
