  5. Chris I’ve been fishing the ‘wobble heads’ a bit myself on & off for a couple of seasons. My results have been mixed. Still working to learn the deal and expect at some point there’s going to be a decent payoff. I’ve been working with / using three heads mainly. They all allow hook change outs – heads from Freedom Tackle, also the Strike King Tour Grade Tungsten Swing Football Head & the Outkast Tackle Troy Morrow 401Kraw Wobble Head. There’s probably no limit to the type of trailers one could use and being able to match (and replace) the hook is nice. I’ve been using craws & creature baits mostly. Anything “Rage” seems particularly good. Been using them in mostly deeper water applications to search out fish & bottom content. Works OK. Clearly a lot less work than deep cranking & allows for a deeper & ( long pause possible) presentation that covers water well. The bait has the expected challenges associated with deep weeds but is fairly snag-resistance in harder cover surprisingly. Plan of trying them on the trip this Nov in the place we first met down south – might be sleeper. A-Jay
  6. Great Bass ! Has a Huge Head . . . Congrats A-Jay
  7. As a veteran member of The Scrounger Club, I will say that the following three factors can contribute to the bait spinning rather than running correctly and they are all related to one another. 1. The size of the bill - long, medium or short. I use & prefer the long bill exclusively. 2. The type & especially the size of the trailer used. 3. The speed of the retrieve. - these baits perform at their best when worked low & SLOW. Scroungers are sort of tough to fish effectively with a high speed reel. Certainly can be done but I'd probably fall asleep in the middle of the second cast. When you think you're going slow enough - slow down some more. Here's a few of my favorite trailers. A-Jay
  8. For $150 get them both and you'll have the vast majority of you're cranking needs covered. Of course, understand these are glass / composite stick. They do not cast or fish like a graphite wand - not better or worse, just Effectively different. I totally prefer it. Other's do not. But be sure you're good with that before jumping on board on the KVD Cranking Rod Train . . . A-Jay
  9. You're welcome - that 7'10' is a beefy stick that I use for most stout cranking application. And that price is pretty decent for what you get. A-Jay
  10. There's a lot of good ones out there. You'll be best served to match a rig to suit your needs. That concept takes time even for an experienced buyer to get right. So I'd encourage you to eliminate a time table. Arming yourself with knowledge will enable you to buy with confidence. You'll be glad you did, in the short & especially in the long run. I have a Lund Pro-V Bass and love it. However I couldn't recommend it to you not knowing, where & how you'd be using, fishing & even storing it. A-Jay
  11. And there ya go ~ btw - I've wouldn't have taken the time to recommend a rod to you that I didn't believe would suit your needs as you stated them Good Luck A-Jay
  12. When you're looking to 'make due' - meaning you're not going to invest in technique specific (properly matched) gear, there will always be concessions that have to be made. My version of how this rods 'handles' a 6XD would be - you'll see better results all around than fishing it on a flipping stick. YMMV A-Jay

  14. As a dry land hunter, something I'm certain you always account for, although omitted in your post is ~ The Wind. In your example it would be equivalent to the Current on any & all bodies of water. Whether wind blown or directionally fed, the current, just like the wind, almost always plays a major role in what a predator does, and how they go about it. Having the opportunity to fish larger multi-species waters has shown me some of the wide varieties of ways bass & other even larger predators live and feed. When a bass isn't the top of the food chain (and is actually food itself) they may not get to use the 'prime' locals. So locating them requires 'another' level of thinking. A-Jay

  19. As a young boy fishing from a row boat - Summer bass fishing on lakes without electronics this was the norm. Still caught a few. Waters were often very clear with at least 10 ft visibility. Looking over the side, I'd find a long, healthy (deeper) water weedline. Then using plastic worms on a jighead & deep cranks,(on spinning gear & bad mono) I'd determine the depth the weeds stopped. Drop the hook (anchor) on the edge and fish it. After getting a few (or not), I'd move along it a few cast lengths, reposition, & anchor again. After locating some of the better spots, I could usually come pretty close to finding them again using a little triangulation action. Today I'd probably use a this deal. A-Jay
  20. Nicely Done ~ I wish my spin bait looked like that . . . . Congrats A-Jay

  25. Nice bass (head) ~ So did you snap that reel off on a hook set ? And if so - the rest of that fight must have been pretty 'interesting' - Several years ago - and we do not need to say exactly how many - I had a casting rod reel seat blow up on a hookset - Didn't end well, broke the line & lost the bass . . . . Glad to see you faired better Good Luck with your warranty claim. A-Jay
