  1. I'm in this line as well. RES has accounted for at least 50% of every State citation size SMB I've caught and an obscene percentage of the 7lb plus LMB I've been able to put in a net. A-Jay

  3. If you do not have experience with the fishery & the fish where you're pursuing, purchasing the right gear in advance may not be the best plan. I'd recommend waiting until you can go into a few local tackle shops where you intend to fish and talk to the humans who are there and who Know what an angler there needs to be successful; Or you can buy stuff now that may or may not work. Good Luck on your move. A-Jay
  4. Day 2 is in the books. Field gets cut to the top 51 anglers moving on to fish day 3 on Saturday. Some Surprising names found both at the top of the leaderboard and especially below the cut line. On My. A-Jay

  7. After reading through this thread I find the responses very interesting & somewhat surprising. The level of passion conveyed regarding this subject seems a little disproportionate to me. As a twin Talon owner, after most of one season use, I can say that for me & my fishing, they are a welcome tool. And just like any tool, a shallow water anchoring system may not be right for everyone or every situation. I find them a very helpful & effective assistant every time I launch & recover the boat, as I fish solo the vast majority of the time. I don’t typically bed fish, so this is not a factor for me. However, during the seasons of spring & fall, when the bass can typically be ‘shallow’, being able to hold position without the trolling motor is a beneficial factor to me. Of course bass can be & are ‘shallow’ off & on all year, so whenever & where ever the opportunity presents itself, the Talon Spikes are down. I would not try to convince anyone that they need these, or that the expense is ‘worth it’. These are simply my personal observations. Finally, I still use a conventional anchor to fish deeper water presentations and am quite effective doing so. The Talons are not a replacement for this tried & true method of holding position but a viable option. YMMV A-Jay

  15. Me Too ~ However there is one 4000 size reel on a set up I use when 'hunting' down schooling fish busting on top. The Bigger reel & braid allows for launching cast in to orbit which keeps me from getting too close to & spooking a school. A-Jay

  19. I'll have rods "ready to rig" without hard bait attached in the rod locker and I'll have anything that requires plastic rigged (weights, hooks, or jig heads) without the plastic. All are rigged at the ramp or on the water. The only exception is Night Operations where everything is pre-rigged in advance; usually that day. The factors that drive the bait choices I'll make are routinely water color / clarity, wind speed & direction, if it's horizontal or vertical deal and the depth I'll be presenting baits. Sometimes I'll rigged the same type rig with a couple of different weights & hook sizes. A-Jay

  24. I prefer braid for walking baits - when using casting & spinning gear. Allows for long bomb casts if needed, bait works / walks well and hook sets seem solid. A-Jay
