I've used and had success with both. Usually I go with a bobber stop for weights 1/2 oz and less. Anything heavier, the Peg-It Pegging System seems to do a better job at keeping the weight from sliding up the line; which (like when a frog leaks too muck) makes me a little nuts. For some of the super heavy cover & weight applications, I've been known to use both ~ A-Jay

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ As you can tell by the number & variety of responses here, the BR members are always ready, willing & able to offer useful advice and recommendations. For me, a spinning rig spooled with an 8 lb braid mainline is going to be used in very light but more than likely, no cover/ open water areas. So the leader size will reflect that and be some where between 4 and 8 lb test (maybe 10 lb at the most); depending on the conditions and the presentation. A-Jay

Several baits features a lethal vibration that attracts bass holding in grass, around rocks, and in open waters. But for the baits I have the most success which always builds my confidence have that enticing shimmy on the drop. Call them in with the rattles and seal the deal on the drop. 3/4 oz RES has taken the biggest fish for me including my PB. A-Jay

I say that the rig is simply another type of jig which can be fished accordingly. If you want to penetrate heavy cover, matted grass or anything else, you'll need sufficient weight to do so. The type of cast may be less of a factor as compared to the sufficient weight needed. A lob cast may help but may be of little help with too light a presentation. If it's needed to get through, don't be afraid to load up - the bass do not care. 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2 ounces and even more all get the job done. A few members here routinely fish with 2 ounces. As for "working" it when not "punching" Fish it like a jig - you'll get bit. A-Jay

I do not do a ton of C-rig angling, but a solid producer when I do is the SK rage tail eeliminator. I believe Mr Parks designed this bait specifically for the Old Ball & Chain and if he didn't, he might as well have. It's pretty Killer - the rigging is important. A-Jay

I used to back reel with a spinner - back when drags were prone to sticking. Don't do it any more, have felt I needed to. Routinely have respectable Brown bass pull the drag pretty good with 4 & 6 lb leader. Don't know what I set it at exactly, just know it's pretty light. The only manual manipulation I may do to a spinner is to put a finger on the spool just to slow a good run. Additionally some of the by catch up here is of sufficient size to really test ones drag & fish fighting skills. I rarely have the need to adjust a casting reels drag after the days initial setting. But I would if I needed to. A-Jay

Although I would generally agree with Dr Rotella, the author of this article, he teaches GOLF. Not exactly a contact sport. So my response to this is actually a quote from Mr Like Tyson ~ "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face." What I like so much about the quote is that its application stretches far beyond boxing (and football). It really has meaning in any area of life, whether the blow comes from a health issue, losing your job, making a bad investment, a traffic jam, whatever. It's how you react to that adversity that defines you, not the adversity itself. A-Jay

From ice out to say the first of July, the 6th Sense Crush Flat 75X Crankbait Squarebill (Bluegill) & a 1/2 oz SK Red Eye Shad (Perch) were probably tied as my top producers ~ But by the time the season was over, a drop shot SK Rage Craw had not only surpassed both those baits combined but easily tripled them in over all numbers. Super clear waters here make the DS a go to bait for most all daytime trips all summer and right into mid-fall. A-Jay

Some popular (because they are effective) baits include but are definitely not limited to . . . Almost all of Roboworm's baits, Strike King KVD Dream Shot & Magnum Dream Shot. In the bait fish shaped category ~ Basstrix Flash Trix & Basstrix Glass Minnow as well as Berkley Powerbait Pro Twitchtail Minnow and Berkley Gulp Alive Minnow. Two of My personal favorites & Top Two producers for Two Seasons running are Berkley Powerbait 4" Power Worms and the Strike King Rage Craw (though not typically thought of as a drop shot bait - I'd really urge you to try it before passing judgement).
