What's your go to set up when you need a kicker fish?
7'11" Quantum Tour Edition Greg Hackney signature rod, Quantum Tour Edition PT "Burner" casting reel (7:1 ratio), 50-pound Suffix 832 braid ~ 1/2 or 3/4-ounce Tungsten slip sinker, Texas rigged with a Green Pumpkin Skirt, a Berkley Powerbait Beast riding on a 5/0 Owner EWG Beast hook. I'm fishing the cleaner hard bottom area at the very bottom of the second drop where it meets with the front edge of the deep weeds, And if there's some wood or a few rocks there - I check my drag right before the first cast and then I get all kinds of serious and hold my breath . . . . . . . Wolf pack.
That makes for a compelling and inspirational story about teamwork — but it’s not true. David Attenborough took the photo in question for the BBC’s “Frozen Planet” Series in 2011. It shows 25 timber wolves hunting bison in Wood Buffalo National Park in Canada. The female alpha wolf led the pack, and the others followed in a single file line to save energy as they made their way through deep snow, according to the environmental website Benvironment. Wolf packs are typically about half the size of the pack pictured in the photo from 2011. Most packs don’t hunt prey the size of bison (which is 10 times the size of a wolf), but the larger pack is able to. And the wolves walking in a single file line through deep snow is a classic example of how they’re able to use weather conditions to their advantage while hunting prey that’s much larger than them. Also, the idea that wolves have to be on the lookout for “ambushes” or attacks isn’t true, either. Wolves are at the top of the food chain and have no natural predators. Aside from turf battles with other wolves (which wouldn’t start in an ambush) bears are the only threat to wolves in Canada. Even so, experts say that bears are only able to prey on wolf pups because grown wolves are too fast, swift and clever to get caught by them. A-Jay

Landing a fish
While not a tournament angler, I still only swing dinks and even that is only on single hook baits. Treble hooks in the hand are not something I enjoy so net use is common practice for me, especially at night. Also when certain TV anglers swing a 3 or 4 lb bass into the boat and unceremoniously allow it to flip & flop from the seat to the deck and then bounce all over - seems seriously disrespectful and I'm thinking "Thunder Punch to the Neck" time. But that's just me. A-Jay

rather have a squarebill or lipless when fishing wood? And why/
I hear ya - my 11-11 PB came on a lipless bait in Mutant Mexican Thorn bushes - no hook mod except up size up grade. A-Jay

I have done this - and yes it does work, I'll say that the double hook deal seems to reduce a little in the area of fish hook up ratio the same way it reduces hang ups, Give some to get some. Also, I had to get over (and build confidence in) the fact that this type of front hook does not swing freely under the bait but instead remains quite static under the lure as it travels forward and on the drop. Still catches bass though. A-Jay

Tip ~ By removing the front treble and split ring and replace them with a Gamakatsu EWG Dbl Frog Hooks (or the double hook of your choice) you may increase the baits ability to come through this stuff a bit. The back treble could also be replaced but may not be necessary. Important note: ensure hook points are pointing UP. A-Jay

what is your favorite brand of jerkbaits
Lucky Craft makes a quality bait and certainly offers a wide array of options in the jerkbait category. A couple of Oldies but Goodies are Smithwick and Rapala ~ A-Jay

When launching into the Lumber, Sometimes the squarebill ends up Lipless . . . . I hate that. A-Jay

How would you fish this
Perhaps consider fishing a Blade Bait like a Silver Buddy 1/2 & 3/4 oz ~ either could be the deal. Silver in the sun and gold works well when it's overcast but sometimes the opposite takes fish too. I'll also say this usually works best in clean / clear water ~ the better the visibility, the better the results, usually Good Luck A-Jay

Buzzbait on flouro?
Fluorocarbon line sinks ~ this makes it a popular choice for many sub-surface presentations. Fishing a buzzbait on FC line may not be ideal. Perhaps if you make very short casts and you reel it in very fast . . . . . A-Jay

Hotels,parking and security
Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ Sounds like to have some reading to do and this is a good place to start your research. The boating article section here has a wide array of information that cold prove helpful. (link below) As for finding hotels & parking for your boat and trailer, simply call ahead & ask (or check their web site). Chances are if the place is near a busy / larger lake - fisherman with boats probably make up a good part of the regular customers. Good Luck A-Jay

Why doesn't my boat charge my deep cycle batteries when I'm running it down the river?
I'm not sure I know the difference. But the specs on the new 200XS I'm looking at says an Alternator putting out 60 amp / 756 watt. Seems like a decent bit of juice. Clearly run duration will come into play. https://www.mercurymarine.com/en/us/engines/outboard/optimax-and-pro-xs/pro-xs-115-250-hp/#specifications A-Jay

Check out this new product from Minn Kota - I do not have or use this but seems like a good idea. This Alternator charger boost your trolling batteries while on the water. It takes excess power from the outboard's alternator and delivers it to your trolling batteries to extend run times, decrease on-shore charge times and increase battery life. WRB-How Does the Cosmic Clock Work?
OK Mr Busting Chops ~ we both know that every last one of these knowledgeable & successful anglers has some formula or their own way of determining how, where, when & what to fish to catch those bass. Doesn't have to be a Cosmic Clock, doesn't even need a name. But since they're probably not using the force, so there's got to be something . . . . . . . . A-Jay
