  1. Are you talking about a hard jerkbait here, or soft plastic (e.g., fluke)? I've got a (somewhat weak) 45lb. Motorguide TM on my Stratos. What is the "hydrilla hacker" you're talking about? The best thing I have found for catching big bass over the grass is a hard jerkbait. I like the firetiger color or even the light blue/silver belly jerkbaits. I've attached a good article on jerkbaits... http://www.kicknbass.com/jerkbaits.htm As for the "Hydrilla Hacker" I have also attached the web page from Motor Guide. As far as your type of TM I have a Motorguide 35 which is a 41lb thrust. I actually had to cut some of the inside of the "Hydrilla Hacker" out so it would fit onto my TM. http://sites.mercurymarine.com/portal/page?_pageid=125,56287&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL Rich, If you ever want to go out on the Potomac and teach me a few things just let me know when. -Joe
  2. Great Idea I have never thought of that...

Eagle Claw, Im a cheap a&* and that is pretty much all I use, I have yet to blame a missed fish on these hooks.
  4. Nice looking fish!!
  5. I fish mainly Aquia Creek. The grass usually starts growing good about mid April. The grass is at the surface by mid may. During the summer months the grass is at it's peak. If you fish Aquia like I do, one of the best ways to call up the big ones when the grass is starting to grow good is by throwing a jerkbait. Rip it through the grass and pause it then rip it again. These bass cannot stand this. Once the grass has gotten to the surface you can flip/pitch into the holes where the bass are at. It is so easy to find the bass through the grass. One thing to add, If you have a good boat ith a good trolling motor you should be fine to get up into the grass, But if not you are going to want to get the hydrilla hacker if you have a motor guide TM. The grass out on the Potomac is extremely propductive. Right now the best area to search for bass out there is around the bridges and any good structure. Structure is key in almost any body of water but out on the Potomac find the structure right near a good drop. If you can also find structure with a drop and grass near by... you just cant beat that senerio. Once the grass is up on the surface start throwing a frog.... Im sure you have heard about this before but this is an awesome way to get them. Hope some of this helps.
  6. Ive been out several times this year and so far the water has thawed out quite well. A buddy of mine caught a 3lber yesterday while out on the lake. They are not biting great but one fish is good for this weather we are having.
  7. Try Lake Anna or the Potomac River
  8. I use plastic shoe boxes to store my soft plastics in their original packages. http://www.organize.com/storboxclear1.html It works great for me. I have about 6 different boxes on my boat at a time. I make sure I have all of my stuff whne I need it!
  9. Terrible... We fished from 11:00- 3:00 and we couldn't find the fish at all. It was windy.... very windy so we had to go up river. But nothing other then a nice day it sucked. I'm just happy I got to go out
  10. Try some jigs or a deep diving crankbait, remember to always knock the lure against the wood, knocking the lure against the wood wil get you plenty of stikes.
  11. I call it stained not a lot but a little bit. As for lures I would throw any type of crankbait in a firetiger color
  12. Earlier this year we went out and headed up Aquia from Hope Springs. We didn't have much luck. I know how to catch these fish I just need to find them. So we are planning on heading to the mouth of the river to fish the channel by the pilings. We may even go to some of the flats in Aquia and try the drop offs. I plan on throwing a blue/black hair jig with a rage tail chunk trailer; a red crank bait - 6-8'; and a white/red/goldish spinnerbait;shaky head once I find them
  13. I will be heading out tomorrow with a buddy of mine to the Potomac. It is supposed to be a decent day and cabin fever is just killing me. I'm looking for anyone who has been out there this year and has found bass in the area of Aquia Creek. I don't really want to leave the Creek yet this early in the year.
  14. Everything on my boats works great for a 1995 Nitro, It is in excellent shape with only minor very small scratches from a dock. But one thing I cannot figure out is why the horn will not work. There is no fuse the runs the horn only wiring. I have taken all the wires apart and cleaned the connections and still the horn wont work. I have tried so many things with it I just don't know what to do next. Do you think the horn could be bad? I don't have a tester to test if there is curent running through the wires but I have faith that there is. I hope someone could help me....
  15. About 3 years ago when I was really getting big into bass fishing a buddy of mine was cleaning out his tackle and he gave me about 10 of these. I took them but until last spring I never tried them. Just because I was bored of not catching anything I tied one on and tossed it out. I was slow rolling if above the grass and banging it into the weeds and peices of structure and I had about 10 bass over 15" slam it in less then 45 mins. This is now my go-to spinnerbait for slow rolling in the early spring. Gold Blade and a small silver blade with a white/blue skirt dyed with a little bit of chartruese on 2-5 strands of the white skirt. Just trust me on this if you fish areas like the Potomac.
  16. I would start by covering the water with a spinnerbait until you locate some of the bass. Once you have located them slow it down with a large size worm maybe a 7"-10" rage tail anaconda or a culprit original worm. If you don't like throwing a spinnerbait you could always C-rig a worm or a lizard. Try a shaky head and a jig, and also throw a nice crankbait.
  17. I have never had any run-ins with any one who was anti-fishing but like Sam said I have had quite a few run-ins with people who try to run you off with a big ski boat. When the warm weather warms up it is hard to fish when they are out running right beside you and throwing a wake that completly moves you off your spot. >
  18. You have your work cut out for you....
  19. Maybe someone will put more expensive brands down but I use these. They have always worked just fine for me. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_7818____SearchResults?ordProd=Y&CMID=BOTTOM_selectitems#itemDetail
