I have never fished for smallmouth other then in small shallow creeks where the fish dont get about 6-10 oz. Does anyone know where in NoVa where I could go to catch a nice one???

Oh well crap avalon... you just made me feel more stupid for toughing it out!!! hahaha yea I'm thankful to be alive today with the speed that storm came in!

Hey ron, Put some pics up of your trip if you took any... since I know you can fish I'd like to see what you caught!

I watch all the fishing shows and I thought I have been learning alot. But I can not seem to even get a strike from a tube. Where I fish.... The potomac and Nothern Va I have NEVER EVER had a bite on a tube. I fish it just like a jig. Through weeds around pileings, rock piles, lily pads and all around structure. I just cannot seem to get bite whatsoever. Now I can fish one spot with a tube all day long and then turn around and throw a finessee worm and I'm slamming all kinds of bass. Now can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong????

I fish many tourneys around my home water. I have always wondered about people cheating. I just hope no one would do that. When I fish the majority of the tourneys alot of the guys that fish it act like they are so much better then everyone else. It is difficult to talk to alot of these guys. I fished a tourney just last night, after the tourney was over I was told that one of the guys needed to be watched because he had cheated before in the past. I disagree with any cheating in any tournament, whether or not there is money involved the only person you are cheating is yourself!!! If anyone has cheated before I would like to hear from you as to why you would do it. As for me its hard enough to pay all that money for a tourney if I knwo I'm going to get beat by a guy that cheated his way into the money. Just my 2 cents

Just for you to think about... Quit talking to the receptionist and talk to someone with some power and raise hell about it. It isn't fair that they can swim in the water but you can't fish. I know of many places where you can fish but can't swim... But seriously don't just listen to the receptionist they usually dont know what is going on anyways.!!!

One thing that I was told also is that lightning comes from the ground up into the sky. So... I don't know what to think.

Sounds like a great place to fish. Actually I live in Northern Virginia and I'm sure that would be a heck of a hike! One day though I [;an on getting out to fish all the good "big bass" producing areas!!! Thanks for the info on the lake and nice fish!!!

Well just to admit it I was scared we weren't going to make it back in! I'm just glad I did so i will get another chance to fish haha. At least I know now that lightning can still strike you...... Life is way more valueable then the $500.00 you could possibly win.

One more thing to add to the above... If you live in the area and want to fish a fairly cheap tournament be out at Hope Springs Marina by 4:30pm every Wednesday night. It only costs $50.00 a boat and that includes the big fish pot. Anyone is welcome and no membership fees apply!

I fished a tournament on Wednesday night out of Hope Springs Marina with a club I have no idea what it is called (if it is even a club). I think it just might be a bunch of bassers trying to have fun. But while we were all out there we got slammed with terrible weather. There was high winds and some of the hardest down pours I have ever fished. When the tournay was finally over I think 4 boats weighed in fish. The rest of them left prior to weigh-in due to the weather. I thought everything would be fine if we stayed on the water. I was always told that lightning won't strike you while your on the water. My question for ya'll is... is that true??? I wasn't about to trust it. Once the first wave of bad weather came through we waited it out and fished as long as we could until we looked over our shoulders and seen the darkest storm cloud I have ever seen. It was so dark it was pretty much purple. I hope there wasn't anyone else out on the river and if there was I'd like to hear their story also. The reason I put this topic on Southeastern is because it happened on the Potomac. Thanks ahead of time for any replies!! Joe

Sounds like an invite to me haha Unfortunatley I have the rest of the week pretty much booked up but in 2 weeks I will have a good amount of time off and Id love to try it out if you want.

So from what I am reading ya'll it seems like ya'll wanna give up on this lake. If anyone would like to go there let me know I have never been fishing at this lake but what the h*** I'll give any lake a try! I like the challenge and I can not stand getting skunked but it gives me a reason to keep fishing as long as I possibly can!!!!

Okrod and I were unable to go out to Fountain Head today but I am still interested in any info anyone will be able to give. I have never fished Fountain head and I would like to try all types of different areas.

Trust me ron I know there are a lot bigger fish out there but hopefully I will slam another nice one soon. I was estatic today when I saw just how big he was! But there will be more!!!

Everything I have read about Fountain Head, the majority of the info was from people who fished out of boats. I imagine that Fountain Head is so big it would wear you out trying to walk all over.

Well actually I would have loved to try another area but beings that I didn't know Fountain Head I doubt that I would do nearly as well. But I'd like to get out there some time soon. I will be going pond hoping tomorrow maybe I will have more pics of bigger fish for ya'll.

Well it all depends on the area you fish. I fish alot on the Potomac River. Let me know I have a lot of time off.

Well since Ive started my week off I had a terrible Monday, only boating one bass. It wasn't even a keeper. I fished for 9 hours on Monday. I did have 2 great bites and I finally boated a nice fish... However it was a blue catfish. It weighed 15 lbs. Man what a disappointment that was!!! I went out today (Tuesday) to a private lake around my house. I figured I would have a good day but I never would have suspected what a great day I would have. Between me and my fishing partner we boated around 200 LMB. in less then 5 hours. I did catch one nice 4.0 lb LMB. Well so far this year this is the largest LMB I have caught this year. That is all I wanted for my week off! Here is a pic let me know what you think!!
