stratos or nitro?
Wayne P. without being disrepectful I would have to disagree. I know what I wrote on there sounded like I was one way towards Nitros, but you are right I know a buddy of mine who doesn't take care of his nitro at all and it looks like crap and his is a 2000. I also have another buddy of mine who has a 2004 and he treats that boat better then his own wife. And that boat is in awesome condition. I like Nitros and the only way I would ever buy any other type of boat is if I had the money to buy a Ranger. But I doubt I ever will so I have to stick with the most reasonably priced. If you take care of your boat it will take care of you... Thats all Im saying but I dont want this to seem like I am arguing with you. By the way what type of boat do you have and which boat would you recommend??

Germantown Lake Faquier County Virginia
Well just to let you know I have an open invatation for you and your dad whenever you want to come out to this lake. Now I don't know everything about this lake but I know enough to have a good time. One problem I have always had on this lake is that it is public lake and everyone that comes to the lake always takes home fish which makes it extra hard to catch nice LMB. But keep me in mind the next time you head out here and I'll try to go along. I wish I could have helped you out more. I will be reading your blog as soon as you post it. 8-)

Problems with a Mercury/Tracker 115hp
I have a 115hp Mercury/Tracker motor on my 1995 Nitro bass boat. I have never had any problems out of it but the other day I was running acroos the river and when I finally slowed down I heard a squeeling noise coming from the motor almost like a timing belt in a car... I took the top off of the motor but couldn't locate any belts. If anyone else could help me fix this problem so I don't get stuck out on the water I would appriciate it!!!

stratos or nitro?
Let me solve this delima for you.... NITRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8-) I bought a used 1995 Nitro 16'9" rick clunn edition last year. I had spent over a year looking at different types of boats but I didn't know which one to choose either. I looked at a Javelin.... Piece of junk!!! I looked at a ranger.... way to expensive!!! I looked at a Triton.... Way to over priced!!! I looked at a stratos... A nice boat but just not nice enough for me!!! I finally went to Bass Pro and looked at the new Nitros and they were very nice!!! I don't know where you were looking at a Nitro where the carpet wasn't right and the compartments wouldn't open but maybe you should have looked at another Nitro since that one probably wasn't takin care of. The Nitro I have was owned by an older guy who had a serois medical problem that made him go deaf and he was in a wheelchair. He actually bought the boat about a year prior to getting sick. He claims he only had the boat out on the lake 3 x since he owned it. After looking the boat over with a fine tooth comb I decided to buy it. It has yet to cause me any problems at all!! Now the ONLY thing I would have done differently if I had the chance is to buy a bigger boat. The one I have has a small deck up front and sometimes makes it difficult to land the lunker, but I started using a net and that pretty much solves my problems. Hope this helps you!! -Nitroman!

Stupid dangerous things to avoid.
- new to fishing for bass take any secrets
Welcome to the Forums!!! Like everyone else said you need to try senkos!!! I swear by them!!! Any type of finesse worms are great too!! Try jerkbait if the water is clear. Try slow rolling a spinnerbait, let it sink down about 15' and then slowly roll it in ever now and then jerk it up to try to get a reaction from the bass. Try a deep diving crankbait that goes from 10-15', try a rat-l-trap use that the same way I told you to use a spinnerbait. No matter what you do don't give up!!! Keep asking quetions!!!! This is the best fishing website I have ever came across and it has tuaght me alot!!! Good Luck To You!!!!!- what would you have done differently
I would have to agree with "Cory N" Spinnerbaits on top of submerged grass!!!! They will slam it hard if the bite is slow, try jerkbaits too!!! I fish the tidal water of the Potomac and when the tide is in and the bite is slow with a senko or a finesse worm I always put on a spinnerbait or a good flashy jerkbait. Make sure you let the spinnerbait smack the grass. Yea you will bring some grass in sometimes but it will be well worth it! With the deep bite Try a t-rigged senko they are a very versitile bait!! Another bait to try is a curl tail type worm about 10-12" and make sure you "match the hatch" BIG BAIT BIG FISH..... Some people may disagree with that but Im am hell bent on that saying because it always seems to work for me. Another thing that I would have done differently is don't leave the lake so early. I fished a tournament on Sat and I only had 2 fish in the live well by 11:00am. The rest of the fish came about 12-1:30pm on topwater over top of submerged grass. As for your topwater bite dont always use a frog!! Try the new strike king rage shad!! They are a terrific topwater bait. They helped me make a 2nd place in a tournament this past Sat. I know I don't live near you and a lot of areas fish different but I have learned a lot on this site and if you need any more info just pm me I'm always willing to help anyone out. Good Luck the next time you go out'!!!!!- Germantown Lake Faquier County Virginia
Well I hope ya'll have a blast!!! The next time ya'll are coming down this way holler at me and I'll see if I will be able to go with you and hopefully show you some of my good spots, if you can't find them from the descriptions. Good Luck!!! 8-)- Fishing On Tuesday 6/17/08
I am off on Tuesday and if anyone would like to go fishing I need a partner to go. Just let me know where you would like to try.- Hot weather.... Cold Fronts In NoVa
So what you're saying ron is the bait monkey snuck up on you?? lol I have the same problem!!! I would like to just go out on the potomac one day and just try to catch the gar... What kind of advise do you have for the gar??- Germantown Lake Faquier County Virginia
.The grass really hasn't gotten up yet this year. I think the storm really screwed it all up. If you know where the handicap dock is.... There used to be a railing that served as a gaurd rail to the dock, with the high waters we had it tore it down completley and over all we were about 11ft ABOVE normal level. I do not fish where the grass should be considering on a clear day you can see the 6" to the bottom where the grass usaully is. So I stick towards the canal that runs along the right side of the lake above the boat docks... (the dock where you can rent a boat). It will droppoff from about 2'- 5-6' and right off the shore it is still about 4' and the LMB have made there homes under the shale (rocks) and up into the dirt. I have also had alot of luck fishing a green striped rat-l-trap. I think it is called tennesee shad color but i'm not sure. Now unless your fishing a frog, buzzbait or a popper I wouldn't try to muchelse here. This fish in this lake are VERY finicky. SLOW your presentation and use large bait. If you get there there early morning buzzbaits have been key down at the d**n, and on into the next couple of coves on the far side of the lake (the right of the d**n if coming from the ramp...) I hope your staying with me haha. I know I jump from this to that but sorry. One secret for you.... PM me and remind me about points... I fish my lizards with no weight at all. There is no current in the lake and I think the bait falls more realistic without a weight, and plus I don't catch nearly as much grass that way. Fish the canal and the docks. Fish the grass ledge on the complete opposite side from where you launch your boat. To use as a point of reference there is an old trash bin out by the water and a recliner... Fish that ledge there about 10 ft from the shore it drops to about 11 ft. You could also try a finesesse worms everywhere they fish just like a senko! I have had decent luck with a spinnerbait last year but haven't used one much this year. But a good place to start throwing it is on the left side where the rocks are high... if you don't know i'll send you a PM with my cell number and just call me and I'll try to do my best to help you land a big "en. Now I just started using the rage tale shad and I have had limited success on it. But I've only thrown it a little bit. But as you already know the shad picks up grass like a buzzbait and after a while its a Pain in the AS*. But I have tried a Zara Spook there no luck.... I lost a couple of depdiving crank baits out there to some fallen trees that the sink. There is a bunch of Christmas Trees that were sunk out there 2 years ago and they hold some nice bass all the time. Jig fish that area as much as you can!!! Make sure you use a small jighead but a large trailer like strike kings rage craws Well if you have any Questions feel free to call me I will be sending you a PM with my number. And Best of luck guys!!!! 8-)- Lake Manassas
Okay Trev..... take me with you!!!!- Hot weather.... Cold Fronts In NoVa
Thanks alot for all the info guys!!!! We had a VERY slow day!!! We started fishing the mats but we couldn't buy a bite!! But about 7pm we went back to the lily pads and started throwing a frog. We caught about 70 bass on topwater in about 6" or less water. We had a blast. The tourney ended at 9pm but like a couple of retards we got as far into the lily pads and the tide ended up going all the way out and we almost got stuck. We didn't get back to the ramp until 915 and we were unable to weigh our fish. But never the less we still had a blast with topwater!!! I caught a 4ft gar but when we went to net him he jerked his head and cut my line. It was a heck of a fight and it was a lot of fun!!!! Im headed out tonight to do some catfishing!!!- Germantown Lake Faquier County Virginia
I fish Germantown Lake all the time, Ron. The water levels are good, but since the bad weather we had about a month ago and the water is still murky. I have had good luck fishing the channel towards the stream that brings the water into the lake. I use a 6" chartruse lizard. I have also had some good luck using a green pumpkin/ pumpkin seed worms. There are some huge bass in that lake however I havn't caught any this year. Last year I caught a few LMB over 5 lbs. out there. If you wanna go some day let me know!!!- Hot weather.... Cold Fronts In NoVa
As everyone that lives in NoVa knows, we had a pretty heavy storm roll through here tonight. I have a tourney coming up tomorrow night on the Potomac and I was wondering about what you think the conditions will be for catching them. I have always been told not to fish after a cold front, that it would be a waste of time. However I do know the weather has been almost unbearable these past few days and tomorrow the weather is finally going to work out for a good day. With the weather cooling down but not really making it cold do you think it will make the bass harder or easier to catch out on the tidal Potomac? I know that right before and right after a storm is the best time to fish but since the tourney is coming up tomorrow evening it is hard for me to figure out the pattern. If anyone can please let me know what you would do in this same situation I would appreciate it alot!!! Thanks!!!!- Fishing after Storms?
X2 I hate getting skunked!!! ;D- anybody notice a difference between last year and this year
I fish a pretty large 85 acres lake and every year the beds have been in the exact same area. I have been fishing it for over 4 years now. The best thing I could tell you is don't give up!!! You will find them. I have had about the same luck as alot of the others. I usually slay the bass every year but this year I haven't done so hot. I hope this isn't going to become a trend for years to come. Good luck to you!!!- holiday park
HAHA i'm not trying to be an A** but I'd much rather look at a picture of a fish instead of your head hahahaha. ;D- Lake Manassas
I lived about 5 minutes away from the old ramp to Lake Manassas. When they shut it down I was kinda happy about it. Not that I didn't want to fish but that lake was so fished out it wasn't funny. They didn't disclose exactly why it was shut down until a year or so ago. From what I was told they shut it down becuase of the golf tournaments they hold there on the golf course. I figured after the tourney was over they would open it back up. But they are unable to open it since all the rich people that live in that neighborhood are all in the home owners association and they are not aloud to lease out their property to put in a ramp. Those frickin' home owners Associations really suck. I do have a friend of mine who fishes the lake from his family's resisdent and he seems to really catch alot of fish!! If anyone knows how we can get on the lake let me know too!!- Lake Frederick - Front Royal VA
I will send you a PM- Bringing Sexy Back
