The AR in the pic appears to be in 308. In my great state I can't own a Thompson Tommy gun (Chicago type writer) in semi auto but I can own the full auto version.

Well two back packs of ammo would be better. A shooting gallery with moving targets would be fun.

Glad I'm not chasing that brass to reload. Is that belt fed magazine legal in most states? It adds new meaning to "chain mail" it sends a message and makes a point he's not playing around. But it surely makes us go through ammo a lot quicker. In my state only ten round magazines are allowed.

Ok for you well seasoned bass fisherman being new to the manufacturer offerings of different "labeled" rods for different lures and there presentations. Do these rods meet or exceed your expectations? Example, The rod is marked for "crankbaits" does it meet your demands for a crankbait setup exactly? Does the "spinner bait", "plastics/C-Rig", etc also meet what you want? I ask this because everyone is different so can one style of a spinner bait or crankbait rod (example) fill everyone's needs. If I guy or gal or youngster is new to bass fishing and aren't familiar with the difference in all these rods is this a fool proof starting point in picking a rod for a selected style of lure? Ok the bottom line is does the experienced bass fisherman buy into this only crankbait rod and this action, this taper is selected for you?

I guess I'll have to break out the insulated camo's and drag my butt out there soon. These high winds are the deal breaker for now.

Did you adjust the friction knob with the brakes off to adjust it to the lure weight? Hold the rod horizontal and release the spool as if casting and just the friction knob till the lure just falls to the ground slowly with the brakes off. I turn the brakes halfway on and try casting. At the end of the cast I apply my thumb brake. On a side cast I let the spool go about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through the cast. This is a starting point till you find your own nitch in bait casting.

I had a noisy bad spinning reel once. In fishing a very quiet area I seen a sunfish like listening we're my line entered the water as I cranked my reel with a lure. I figured the noise from my mistake reel entered the water through my line like a guitar string. I always close my bail on my spinning reel by hand making no noise at all. Now I notice while fishing at night to dawn any little strange sound will spook the larger bass at the shoreline. I'm very stealthy handling my tackle, I walk up softly to my spot. I even drive up slowly in my car and shut the door softly too. My question is do you think the engagement of the spool on a bait casting reel can send this loud click noise down my line into the water too? I have even cleared my throat and seen a very large wake on top of the water swim away from shore right in front of me. I think these bigger gals are very sound sensitive. I'm so quiet it's like I'm not even there. I use a one AA battery flash lite to keep the glare down. I'm extremely stealthy. Now what do you think about the loud click of my bait casting reel at night? Can a bait caster be lubed enough to stop this loud click?

The old timers did tell me after the post spawn to move to river bass fishing till the fall bite.

Are we still having winter lag or are they biting yet? There saying a cold front with frost again. They say early winter late spring. Winter is hanging on so long it maybe a short summer. We still have the flannel sheets and blankets on the bed. I wake up at 4am feel the cold and go back to bed. I know I should be out there but the bass aren't even out of the mud yet. It's 30 degrees and bass fishing just doesn't feel right.

Bait caster or spinning what the most important things you look at? Do you shop for a certain brand? Action? Taper? Length? The line test it can handle? Brand of eyes and reel seat? Is the deal breaker the lure weight rating? Do you find the exact rod you need or,, ,,,, Do you exceed the line test ratings? Do you exceed the recommended lure weight rating? I see so many questions about buying a rod or just looking. Let's sum it up in one post, somewhat.

There is a plueger razor bait caster rod at fish and save. It's a nice light rod. I purchased three of these to take my gals who asked me to take them fishing. I would adjust the friction knob snug and brakes full on. Your not looking for distance just birds nest free casting till he gets an educated thumb. I have a micro crappie bait caster with a 28" rod it's impossible to cast like a normal bc.

Any company that offers great service gets my vote and business first. Your right once it was the word of mouth now it's still word of mouth times many thousands with the net.

If he is willing to learn don't hold him back. But have a spinning outfit ready just incase. Don't let him get too frustrated. But kids learn quicker nowadays. My 4yo grandson grabbed my kindle fire and operates it better than I do.

I just found mirrolures at fishing tackle outlet for $1.99 I think these were $10 originally at there website. He has bulk senko too. It's worth a looker.

I switched from Garcia mono to Excalibur silver thread copolymer. I never lost a fish again to line problems. Do to cost I been using the yo-zuri hybrid copolymer and vicious copolymer inbetween. I like the low stretch of the copolymer line. This old man(me) can still be quick on hook sets. The copolymer line seems to last longer too. Sorry, I do use the red Cajun line for my plastics setup. Because of its disappearance in shallow water.

I throw a ritual of lures on any given day. I never limit myself to rely on what worked last year or even last week or yesterday most of the time it ain't gonna work. I throw different colored baits, different size of the baits. I like to stay between 1 7/8" to 2 1/8" in lure length. Presentation really matters. What speed is the key. I'm too excited when I fish cast and probably reel to fast expecting that first strike. I finally slow down and get into the zone. Armed with my newly purchased older combo c lector in testing it for a week fishing in one exact spot at the same time with the days being equal condition wise but I figure the hues in the water is what's different. One day redapplecraw was hot. No other color worked. Another day browncraw was hot. Again no other color worked. Another day all the colors worked it was so hot bite wise I think a bare hook could catch fish. Another day greencraw was hot, no other color worked. The combo c lector picked one color. The other days it picked a blend of colors. I was new at bass fishing and figured the combo c LECTOR would jump start my knowledge. Nothing beats the time on the water. But it did teach me about lure color. To back up the color choices the combo c lector made. In the same spot the bass were hot after my rebel BIG CLAW crawfish crank in chartreuse. I was hooking up bass as fast as I could release them. My son tried everything in our tackle boxes but only the big claw was catching fish. I had other cranks in chartreuse in crawfish but the other brands caught nothing. It's the style of lure, our presentation, the color and the light and water conditions. The unknown factor we don't think about is the PH. I firmly believe in fishing one area really heavy all year having success the following year using the same lures I find the bite way off. I'm thinking the place is fished out. I was dead wrong my lures from the last season we're no longer fooling them. I see a new lure clean house all over again. Throw a ritual of different lures and colors/sizes. Till you get action. A squirt of bass scent doesn't hurt either.

Towards the end of summer the bigger online places and stores have discounts on fly equipment. I think fish and save has the stuff half price in some brands.

I notice that a wordens inline spinner silver blade with white body with or without black dots with a white skirt works good too.

OT, But a true story. I was into the old dual sport street legal dirtbikes. There so old they have no titles. In ct they won't accept the bill of sale. But vermont does. I have property there anyway. I registered everything that had lights. Now I'm at the DMV and was told that ct will accept the vt registration now. I said bite me. I purchased a European street legal two stroke bike and registered it in ct. I took it out at 12am and tore the streets up. I did wheelie on main st passed the Harley bar and the guys went nuts. I purchased the bike because a Leo said to me once while tuning my off road bike in front of my shop "I can see your an adult" like what are you trying to say Willis? I took 5k and purchased a street legal bike. I showed the neighborhood kids you can do it legal. But the midnight rides were awesome. Funny my wife signed the cops pay checks in town she was the comptroller. I made sure I was legal. The leos would say my kids were awesome but the old man is something else.

He has his new batman spinfly combo. He's going fishing for the first time. He is five years old. I will mentor him as my older brother did to me. I'm going to make him the best bass fisherman he can be. I hope to see him post here to learn more too. I'm just going to help him fish for now. I'm not sure to use nightcrawlers or bass lures. Maybe both? My son the kids dad is an excellent fisherman. He sees me use a new lure and when he tries it he catches bass on the first cast. He has that natural talent. I been telling him to start fishing local tornies to learn more. But he won't. I'm hoping his son will have that natural talent too.

I fish from shore with up to five tackle boxes and five rods if I'm close to the car. If I have to walk I carry three tackle boxes and 3 or 5 rod setups. Topwater 9606 tackle box split roof the largest box made full of every topwater lure made. Crankbait 9606 tackle box with most cranks in assorted colors. Weedless tackle box barn split roof next smaller than the 9606 with every weedless lure known to man. Plastics tackle box every type of plastics. Small lure box with ultra lite lures. My magnum soft sided boat bag has 12 3600 & 3700 boxes in it with most of the lures above. My quick fish on the fly tackle box has all my hottest lures for those last minute trips. I have around 17 tackle boxes full of lures. I rotate lures every few seasons. And replace them with different ones to try. I store the used one's in tackle boxes. Yes I hate the bait monkey but his gorilla dad keeps an eye on me. I'm a tackle hoarder, and yes I have a problem. Do you think I have a problem?
