  1. When I was a kid in the boy scouts we slept on the rocks at night under the stars. Who knows what lurks in the wilds. Seeing this flying Fox as they call it adds new meaning when we say, "when pigs fly" we must watch what we say it just may come true. I like buffalo wings but never seen a buffalo with wings. Now pigs wings sounds ok like bbq hickory flavored pigs wings?
  2. My three feral cats that I tamed love to go out in the rain and snow. They are all weather cats. None of my other cats in the past ever did this. I even plow my yard making a circle when the snow is too deep for them to go out to do there business too. I make a big circle around my two acres. I always rescue abandon kittens when I find them when fishing in the wilds. I picked up two pairs of kittens twice in one area two years in a row. I was given three feral kittens that we're born and lived in the wilds. They were so small they fit in my hand. I never knew how bad they were traumatised until I took in two kittens that are happy, happy just to big to stay with mom. These two kittens started playing with the three full grown feral kittens and they have come out of there shell. They actually play fight with the kittens. They all are happy, happy now. My misses wasn't going to let me go fishing if I brought home anymore kittens. But I figured if I did I would find them homes. I had 9 cats at onetime. Now I have six. It's sad to have them from kittens to see them die from old age. My oldest kitten now is 16yo.
  3. Prayers sent for a fast recovery.
  4. Excalibur Silver Thread co-polymere, yozuri hybrid co-polymer, seem to be the best so far. Why I like co-polymer line? Less stretch, no rubber band, faster hook sets for my older slower reaction. As I get older I have to think in advance. My reaction time isn't like it once was. I'm still lip hooking fish so I'm ok so far. Co-polymer can with stand more abrasions too. The bottom line is less lost fish. If it's improved my shore fishing by 50% less lost fish n tackle it has to help the boaters too. Live long and prosper, fish hard too. Bill
  5. I started out using senko' s but also use BPS Stick o worms, gambler ace, mister twister comedias etc. They all seem to work great pretty much equal on my 1/8oz c-rig. I purchase different brands for different colors too. I look for sales and clearances plus discounts too. Mister Twister has some of there comidias on sale right now. These lower prices keeps me fishing.
  6. We're just taking out the flannel sheets. And feeding the woodstove. It's nice and cozy watching the colored pine cones burning in the fireplace while watching the latest movies on cable. Some fresh beverages, some popcorn with family and friends surely makes a nice evening when it's chilly outside. We do movie nights, a game night(Scrabble/boggle). Plus a great home cooked super, or order pizza, or Chinese, it's a meal then game or show time. No chance of cabin fever hitting here.
  7. First it's not luck that catches fish it's the skill in choosing the correct lure for the time of the season were fishing in. Prespawn The bass just come out of the mud beds from there winter nap. For me it's slow moving plastics like crawfish, jigs, slow rolled spinnerbaits and lizzards etc. Any thing that looks like an easy meal. During the spawn its plastic lizzards. Lizzards eat the eggs so bass hate them. Post spawn these big gals are off the beds and hungry. I like crankbaits during this time. But cranking crawfish cranks works too. I bounce the deeper running one's in ten feet of water off the bottom. Any crank that has a craw pattern seems to work. A slow moving rapala, spinner bait, inline spinner, spin fly, all seem to work as the sun comes up. It's topwater in the first light. It's skill when to use what under different lighting conditions too. Choose the sides and colors wisely.
  8. My lake of the woods 1,000gram of triangulate boots cook my feet when it's not cold enough out.
  9. Don't let the cold temps fool you when there is snow on top of the ice. This can cause layers of air pockets in the ice so it's not so solid as it seems so beaware. I like to use a ice stick in front of me stabbing the snow in front of me making sure it's solid and not air pockets. Stay away from the moving water areas too that's thin ice. Know the place your fishing at when there is no ice. Be safe. Do it right. God bless, bigbill
  10. I was using ice fishing gloves for the first few trips out many years ago. But this morning at just 2 degrees below zero with an expected 20 degree high for the day needless to say I won't be tanning today. On the dirtbike and motorcycle in 10 degree weather I wore leather mittens with fur inside plus those danger thin insulated gloves inside the mittens. These were the only glove setup that worked for us in cold weather. But now we need water proof warm gloves. I'm not sure how warm the ice fishing gloves will be at the colder temps.
  11. I looked at the old Sinhalese Sally but never purchased it. I'll have to get a few now. Don't leave out the mepps Anglia, panther Martin, wordens, strike king inlines too. There still a hot lure today. I never leave them behind.
  12. I purchased a Maverick 12ga pump shotgun. Same barrels as the Mossberg 500. I have the mod barrel it came with. I purchased the 18,5" riot barrel and the 30" full choke barrel for it too. Now I need another maverick.
  13. May he RIP. It doesn't take long for the list of celebs who passed on to continue on. This year of 2013 the celebs who passed on the list was pretty big. Bill
  14. How far south does it snow? As we brace ourselves for blizzard number two I repaired two antique lamps for the wife today. When it's snowing tomorrow I'll be doing more inside fixes. I don't operate shovels anymore. The last time I shoveled snow was in the blizzard of '78. After that I purchased machines to do it. I went looking for a snowblower and came home with a '55 jeep with a 4 way plow. Moving levers is as hard as it gets for me. As I hear the blizzard and heavy snow warnings moving south is an option for sure. I can afford to live anywhere in the world I want too. But my problem is my misses won't go. I just dream about fishing all year round. With the single digits approaching us by the weekends I'll be hugging the woodstove for sure. While cleaning my tackle room of course. Dreaming about making that first cast in a few months. Bill
  15. Give me a list of the best buy them and save them for Christmas eve 2014 as one more milestone.
  16. It's a good to give back even a little will add up and help others in there time of need. We as individuals can really make a difference in someone's life. We're also letting them know that there not alone and someone cares. It's like my 3 1/2yo grandson when I show him a new toy. His face lights up and he says is that for me? At that point grandpa wants to give him the world. I'm so blessed to see things in the different way more so than I seen before. Life is good. God bless, Bill Happy New Year. And I hope all your new year resolutions come true.
  17. Your right it's time for me to relax, sit back and just enjoy what life has to offer. I will relax when I'm not riding. "NOT" nope that's not me. It's time to get a new motorcycle and burn the tires off that baby. It's all about being one with the machine. I need to workout and get back in shape too. I need to get back in the fast life. Bill I can hardly walk with my mistake knees but when I throw a leg over the seat on a motorcycle a switch gets switched. The pain disappears and the adrenaline takes over. I miss taking the family on hikes in the woods When the kids were small I could carry all three of them in my arms. I can't do that today there all adults. I still love them just the same. My point is riding dirtbikes and quads got me back in the woods enjoying nature at its finest hours. About a decade ago my balance was awesome. My problem today I'm a tad wobbly. It's been getting better as the readjust my meds to my weight loss. I was able to get off some meds and reduce others. I'm getting a little better. Charitable work has been on my mind too. I want to help the kids who are sick. I been giving to the Ronald McDonald house too where the child is sick they help the parents have a place to stay for free. Think about it? If everyone of us puts the coins from our purchase just how much all of us added up could help. At this point in my life it's going ok and life's been good to me. I feel it's time to give back and help in someway to help someone else out.
  18. We made it!!!! In a few days we made it to next year. We need to make plans. Resolutions? Any? Mine are to fish and fish more. I need to wear out all my new stuff. The new state record LMB has eluded me long enough. I've done some thinking while I was ill, and corrected my weak points. Now I'm ready to move forward and getter done. With anything we need to believe in ourselves and we can overcome and conquer anything. I'm playing the hand that our creator has dealt me. I was always "lucky" at poker. Always remember it's skill in bass fishing. It's time to plan the future now. New motorcycle? New boat? Other options? We need to get out of the break down lane and get in the center lane now. Where's it's not too fast yet not too slow. Stitch are you hearing me brother? God bless, bill My hats off to the people at the cancer center too. They really know there job. Having the radiation now I know what a piece of meat feels like in a microwave. Just kidding it keeps me going, I crack myself up. The gals there treated me awesome. I need to bring them gifts soon. I'll do a grab bag with watches this week.
  19. Congrats enjoy them while there small they grow so fast. I just purchased dirtbike riding gear for my 3 1/2yo grandson. He grew out of the riding boots already. God bless, bill
  20. I caught some sort of fish that had a pink color upper and a pearl white lower body. I pulled out two of these back to back the day I caught 19 bass in one spot.(full moon with rain). They had a body like a sunfish/bluegill.
  21. I have other hobbies. Gun smithing I'm building a deer rifle for my grandson(3 1/2yo). I figure I won't be here to see him hunt but he will be all set to do so.
  22. We Italians aren't stupid we just don't have feet that large. We gave you pizza, spaghetti, sausage, and don't forget my people were building boats and smashing grapes way before Columbus came here. But the knights Templars were here first so the Italians don't get the credit for discovering the new world we call America today. More Italians fought in WW 2 than any other nationality. They were proud to be called Americans and willing to die for this country. Size 15? That's built in swim fins. I'm just a spaghetti bender from Jersey what do I know. Bill
  23. I need to order more colors too.
  24. I was using the culprit 12" black shad worms. I caught a 13" fish while reeling it in. What was this fish thinking. I put a shot of obstinate worm/crawler scent on it. On a tough day sinks can be a good thing but let's not educate them all too soon. Finding culprit worms in all sizes and colors can be hard lately. I purchase them at the culprit website and from, www.brannansbassshop.com The guys and gals at brannans are some they know there baits in Texas.
  25. I'd like to build a 12 to 14' open row boat first, wood or fiberglass to keep the noise down???
