Which one should i get
I love my carrot, but if the Avid is one of your choices, I opine for the Avid. If this is your first more expensive rod, go with the Avid and add to your arsenol from there. To me the Avid's are security, no matter what else you try, and possibly end up liking, you'll be able to fall back to this rod with total reliability and confidence. jmo

Hooked on Jimmy Stewart movies.
The Shootist with John Wayne. Yup, was only a supporting role, but I love the dialog between the two of them.

Spring Has Sprung!
RW said it because he could mean it, that's what really sucks. We have had a super thaw in central Wisconsin, lost alot of our snow, but still plenty of ice. Temps in the 20-30s, a nice break from real winter. Glad someone is enjoying spring though.

4th Annual BassResource.com Roadtrip!!!
Forcing swimbaits to practice? Giving jigs pep talks? Man, I think you guys are losing it. Just take them to your priest and have them blessed like I do and get it over with!

Arguing with a tree stump
I have an uncle like that. He would stop while I was doing remodels and explain to me why I wouldn't want to have something the way I had it, because it wouldn't be how he would do it in his house. It's to the point where I have avoided any and all conversation with him for the last 15 years.

Delivery Question
I found out one thing about USPS. Mailing priority on a Friday morning can get to it's destination for Monday's delivery. Had this happen with f_b_l a few weeks ago, and he said he's seen that before out of the post office, where they kick it in gear over the weekend. I tried this again last week and same results. Mailed priority on Friday morning and package was delivered in Monday morning mail. These were 1000 mile jogs. Priority was cheaper than parcel post also. The rod was $20 something parcel post and under $10 for priority. :-/ I guess this will all change when they start skipping one day a week.

Rod/Reel Brand Loyalty...Why???
I'm brand loyal for rods (St Croix) because for me, they are made locally. This does not mean I won't try or buy others. As for reels, other than my first baitcaster, which was a red Daiwa millionaire back in mid to late seventies, it's Abu Garcia for me. I've had the Big A's on up to the current lowpros, and they have always preformed well. Again, I am not affraid to try others. I'm actually waiting on a Patriarch as we speak.

reel ratio for situations
For me the high-speeds (burners) would be for covering alot of area fast, or for when you get thru the strike zone the faster retrieve will get your lure back on the water faster. You can burn just about everything with 'em. Spinners, buzz baits, cranks. I think this would be mostly for when your looking for reaction strikes. jmo

I realize this may bump your spending cap, but check this one out, it's also Shimano, but gets alot of positive feedback from users. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=SEARCH_all-cat20333&id=0060367123667a&navCount=2&podId=0060367&parentId=cat20333&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IK&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true Check with different sellers, you should be able find get it a little cheaper than the Cabela's price. I just passed on a suggestion in another thread. Check out Dolilfishie and Poorfish on Ebay. Use them extensively, as they have cecent pricing, and sometimes free shipping. Good luck!

My True American Hero
Give it a couple of years. He'll get pulled over for speeding and find out there is a warrant out for him because of late fees! ;D
-
My True American Hero
In my own humble opinion the word hero gets passed around all to often the last few years, but the Hudson pilot is one case where hero was the first thing that came to mind. Maybe I am wrong, but brave acts are different than heroic acts. I don't know where that line should be drawn, I guess that's any persons' view.
