I just got back in to fishing and am starting over from scratch. Just bought a new 6'6" MF rod and a new spinning reel spooled with 8# XL. Will be doing most of my fishing from shore up here at the lakes and ponds of NH. My main focus will be LM bass but I also like catching sm's, trout, pickeral, and carp. I bought a new tackle box and now need to start filling it up. So my question is what tackle would you guys buy if you had nothing to start with and only $100 to spend? Specifics about brand, color, lure sizes, hook sizes, weights, etc. will greatly help. Thanks in advance for advise. 2. Hey guys, I was just wondering what you guys were having luck with during the evening hours and at night. During the week I usually can't make it out to a lake until at least 5:00 p.m. Was fishing watermellon w/ black flake senkos yesterday. Caught 2 LM right away. Then a kid came over fishing live bait. He kept on catching fish and I got no more. Threw out a white and yellow spinner bait and a fat ika but nothing was hitting my lures. Even tried a yellow buzz bait. Is it better to use darker or lighter colors at night? Thanks in advance for the help. P.S. When is the prime time for fishing LMB this time of year up in the Northeast? Morning, afternoon, or night?
  3. Hey all, new to forum. Was wondering if anyone knew of any cabins up in Northern Nh for rent. Looking for a place on a good lake, with big bass, and great scenery (mountains etc.). Need a place that will sleep 6+. Any suggestions?
  4. Haven't gone fishing in over 6 years and need some help getting everything set up right. I just bought a Fenwick 6'6" HMG MF rod with a Pfleuger Supreme 8035MG reel. My 1st question is what size line to go with. I mostly fish for bass but sometimes I go after trout and on rare occasions carp. Planning on buying some Trilene Maxx since I used Trilene back in the day. I used to use 8lb test but was thinking about going with 6lb test for better casts. Was wondering what you guys would recommend. Another question I have has to do with hook sizes. What size hook do you guys use on 5" Tiki Sticks? I have size 3 and 4 offset shank worm hooks. Didn't know which would work better. Also wondering what size hook you guys use when fishing with medium sized live shiners. I own some size 1 snells I was planning on using for them. My last question has to do with swivels. As a kid and teenager I always used them. I am usually changing up my bait fairly often so swivels made it easy to change to whatever I wanted. I fish with just about everything including live bait, spinner baits, soft baits, hard baits, etc. Are there any disadvantages when attaching your bait to a swivel instead of directly to the line? If the disadvantages are nil or minimal, what type of swivel would you recommend (size, color)?
  5. 1st I'd like to thank the people that gave me some advice on a new rod and reel last week. Last week I was planning on getting a Pfleuger President spinning reel and a St. Croix Premier rod that was going to cost me $160. Since then I decided to check out ebay to get a good deal on a rod and reel. I 1st got a Fenwick HMG 6'6" M rod new for $76.85 w/sh&ha. Then I got a Pfleuger Supreme 8035MG spinning reel new for $77.49 w/sh&ha. So now I can't wait to get out and use them !
  6. You might want to look on ebay for a good rod at a good price. I just picked up a Fenwick HMG 6'6" mf new for $76.85 w/ s&h. It retails for $119. Good luck.
  7. Update: Started looking on ebay to find a good deal on a rod and reel. I am now an owner of a Fenwick HMG GS66M-2 rod. Got it new for $76.85 w/shipping and handling ;D. So now I'm trying to get a Pflueger Supreme new for around $80. So please, nobody bid on Pfleuger Supreme 8035MGs this week !
  8. Thanks Island. I will check that rod out. I am also now thinking about getting the Supreme instead of President reel. Been seeing them on ebay selling for about $80 Worth the extra $???
  9. Thank you for the welcomes. This looks like it is a great bass forum.
  10. Thanks all for the input. The rod is what I'm having the hardest time making my mind up over. Compared to the cheaper rods I've used in the past, everything in the $100 price range felt light and good in my hands. I am leaning towards the St. Croix Premier because it is a 2 piece rod. Transportation issues would be the reason. I did read about the problem with guide inserts but heard their customer service was top notch. If anyone knows of a better 2 pc 6'6" mf for $120 or less, please let me know. May you all be blessed with many fish :!
  11. Hello to everyone. New to the forum. Haven't done any fishing in years but am ready to get back in to it. I need to buy a new reel and rod though. Have read through many pages of this forum to help me make up my mind on what will suit me best. Would like to thank everyone for all their input in their posts. I mainly fish for large mouth bass (90%). The other 10% would be mainly trout. I fish off shore with live bait (shiners) 80% of the time and use different lures the other 20% (spinnerbaits, rubber worms, spoons etc.). I like spinning set ups and was looking to spend under $200 for a rod and reel. After reading through many posts I think I have made up my mind. Would like to know what you guys think about this setup. Pflueger President Spinning Reel 6735x ($59.95) St. Croix Premier Spinning Graphite Rod PS66MF2 (100.00) Trilene Sensation 8# Any input before I go ahead with purchase will be appreciated. Thanks.
