Poll question for right or left hand fishing
I have to strongly disagree with this theory. From MY experinces anyway. whether it is a spinning or a baitcasting set up, I use the rod to move the fish, not the reel. To say a B/C is supposed to be used as a wench but a spinning reel isn't ,...just doesn't make sense to me. Do you just pooint the tip mof the rod at the fish if using a b/c??? I use the rod to pull or turn the fish and the reel to take up the slack. I do this regardless of the type of set up. I am also right handed. I hold the rod in my right hand, regardless of set up because, regardless of set up, I use my power arm to do the power aspect of the angling and for me, that's not "powering" a reel to crank in the lin,...it's "powering" the rod to pull the fish. The heavy work is always done by my dominant arm. The heavy work is also done with my rod more than my reel (B/c and spin). I simply match the 2 up. I THINK Gw's comments apply to saltwater, not fresh. Take a Penn 130 for example. You are in a seat, with the rod strapped onto you and set in a gimbal bracket. You use your legs to power the rod here, NOT your arms. IN THIS CASE, the reel hand would be on the dominant side (right) because AS FAR AS YOUR ARMS GO, the reeling hand needs to be stronger because reeling has now become the bulk work since we took the rod out of the equation. Wherever GW read that, I am sure it was meant to address this situation, not one where you are holding the rod completely alone, like when bass fishing. My opinion. (but it is regarding saltwater) so back to freshwater... None of these answers are wrong, it's a personal preference. I personally think there is a dangerous pause when switching hands, a pause that leaves the line somewhat unattended for a split second. Denny Braur is always persistent about KEEPING your fingers on the reel knobs because that split second reaction time can cost you a fish. I see the same scenario with having to switch hands. Is is "wrong". Nope. Does it mean you can't make it to the classic if you do this? nope. Does it mean I am better than you if I don't? certainly not.

x2- remember, those directions are for a 6hp, just to give you an idea. Owning the repair manual is a great investment anyway, I would go grab one.

Five-Inch Thin Senkos
Ditto, did real well with the *** ones last year. Works as a fantastic little finesse worm also, t-rigged, 1/8 oz bullet. and then there's always "wacky" but use a smaller hook than you do with a regular 5"

I guess I have broken more laws then I thought.
lol, interesting. Alabama-It's against the law for a man to seduce "a chaste woman by means of temptation, deception, arts, flattery or a promise of marriage." Doesn't say anything about "cash" though, lol ;D

Question for the Rhode Island guys out there in re: R.I. Bass record
That's the truth. Why so hard to believe? That fish OWNED that pond and all the free, high protein, trout the state would throw in there for her

2008 member challenge ideas
I think this is a great idea. I would still like to keep the members challenge though. That was created to have members challenge other members to techniques they are not proficient in, creating versatility. It was very successful and has been a lot of fun over the last 2 seasons, I'd like to see it continue for the new members that never got to play. This would need to be something different but lets roll it around here for a bit and fine tune it. How about this. Game is called "Catch or Fetch" -Agree on lake -Agree on time limit (4 hrs, 5 hrs, etc) -If in a boat, drivers seat time is split 50/50. Toss coin to see who leads first. -Strictly for single largest fish -NO live bait -Photos are a must -If not fishing in the same boat, or from shore, you have to be within sight and earshot of each other at all times. Opponent has to "OK" the fish and it's weight or measurement before releasing or it doesn't count. Travel for the "approval" rests in the lap of the person who has the fish. He must bring it to the other angler for approval if too far away for a "thumbs up" -Must agree on a "fetch" prize. Either a "I'll clean your truck, you clean mine" scenario or whatever but there has to be a prize. Even if it's the lunch tab. (no cash bets please) GET CREATIVE HERE Pics of the loser "paying up" are highly requested. (again, be vreative ) All threads will have the below title format so members know it's a member tourny. i.e. "Catch or Fetch- Tin vs LBH" "Report backs" will be in posted in "My tournament or outing" **First sign of NON sportsmanship-like behavior will end the game. Remember, When a man truly congratulates his opponent, in the face of defeat, there are 2 winners Let's have a lot of fun with this. Thoughts?

Impeller Life Question?
Usually a minimum of 1 hr labor. It's a 5-10 min job. Very easy, they would probably tell you how to do it. Note- I do mine every yr but it is in saltwater. It's a preventative maintenance thing. To give you an idea of what is involved to see if you can handle it, below is the description for changing a 6 HP merc. "First make sure boat is in neutral. Under the cavitation plate there will be 2 bolts on side and sometimes one in front and possibly one under trim tab if you have one or in area above prop. Remove these and lower unit should drop down you will then see the water Pump housing. Before removing clean shaft so you don't damage seal. I would also lube shaft. Remove bolts or nuts from housing and twist and lift. Watch for small key that fits in the flat slot on shaft. Pull housing and old impeller off and clean inside housing. Use a small amount of WD 40 to lube inside housing. Replace impeller being sure to line up key on shaft. Now place housing back on and while turning shaft push housing over impeller. Doesn't matter which way you turn it as it will set itself right when you start motor. Install nuts or bolts and carefully re insert shaft into motor housing being careful to line up water tube, and shift linkage. Don't force anything,it should fit together without any binding. Replace all bolts and nuts then hook to water hose muff and start to make sure you have water coming from telltale hole."

Topwater Question
So you want smaller but heavier. Look into the "woodchopper" short, stubby prop bait, but heavy. Not made anymore but they are still around. Weighs 1/2 oz I think. Appx 2", 2.5" maybe. This is a big fish bait, all day long. Made of WOOD, I switch it up with the Dying flutter, feels like the same lure on the other end but offers different (not necessarily "smaller") profile but more importantly, offers a different cadence and sound in the water. Exactly what your looking for Now, I'm not knocking the devils horse, a fine fish catcher all day long, but if you fish these and haven't used the Heddon version (Dying Flutter), you are really cheating yourself. Almost the exact same bait but they are the more durable of the 2. These are real warriors. (less prop tuning also) (they help you stay "incognito" too.lol)

Peta all over this one???
I can't comment, I've never had my privates strangled with rope. I don't see how it can be very fun though, but at least they've been given good health insurance.. :

Hummus
Burley, have you ever made your own falafels? I tried a few weeks ago, they came out terrible. The only place around here to get one, took it off the menu and I need my fix!! lol (Hold the hummus, hold the tahini,...LOAD it with taziki ) Q- why do you soak the beans, is that to remove skins? soften?

Luck E strike "Bass Magic" , Basstrix knock-off
nope, HAS TO BE a basstrix, lol. The paddle tails work much better when you pay way too much for them. The knock off tail won't be as good because it doesn't cost as much. It's a well known phenomenon called "Yamasenoism"

Carrot stix or Avid???
So you've had a chance to throw one!! Why no report?? I have been waiting for your REAL opinion, the one of the rod, not the company. What is your honest opinion of the sensitivity when compared to the Avid? Did the company really expect us to believe the rod is orange because of the carrot content?? I assumed it was colored orange to "reflect" on the fact that they used carrot in the making. Personally, I have a rocky relationship with Ken. I think, marketing wise, that the rod is the ugliest thing around and would surely prevent me from ever buying one, but that's me, looks matter, to many, they don't. Then I used one,....regardless of my opinion of the owner, or the color, the rod is a dream.
