  1. Welcome aboard Caller!! Fantastic bass in your avatar!!
  2. ok, go make some room in your closet, hop in, we'll bring you food and water. If you do your research, chances are you won't be keeping a bass as a pet. As for your "Oh well" attitude regarding if it dies or not,....you're not gonna make many friends here with comments like that one.
  3. Cool link, Arbogast history pictoral LINK
  4. IT still needs to be blessed and christened Good Luck with it, you earned it, you came a long way this year. Remember those couple of days, learning about the spawn? Those were some great trips, good times.
  5. BassFin@ddict-Slow it down. Creep it till it goes just slow enough to start making a very seductive sound. And then HOLD ON!! ShooterMC-That's very funny, I'm flattered
  6. I use 2 socks. I have one for a 16' boat and one for a 21'. I can fish with control in pretty much any wind up to 20mph. ,.....and that's just a 12' jon invaluable tool. Another note about the chain. Something we get here with Stripers is where the guys are digging clams,...down current, you can often catch Stripers. The logic is that the rakes are digging up all kinds of goodies from the Bay floor and they are being carried to the waiting fish with the current. I bet it's similar in freshwater, a bass is a bass. That chain just might scare up a cray or some bugs that the smaller fish are attracted to. Smaller fish consumed with a bunch of sudden, free food, .......are often watched and preyed upon by "you know who".
  7. I think Bassnjr is thinking more along the lines of "ramp needed" boat or a "no ramp needed" boat. In RI, having a "tin" boat commonly refers to boats like mine. Stop and drop fishing, as opposed to a "larger" boat (tin OR glass) that requires a ramp. So,...to ramp or not to ramp. In this state, you are severely limiting yourself to waters that get pounded by tournament anglers if you go for a "ramp only" type of vessel. On the other hand, the state offers lots of great isolated fishing if you like to adventure in. Now, having a larger boat affords you to travel to Mass, NH, Ct and search out other bigger lakes with Smallies, etc. I would think about saving up and waiting for that right deal to come along on an older used bass boat that you guys could do a restore on. But,...NEVER GET RID OF THE TIN BOAT YOU HAVE UNLESS YOU ARE REPLACING IT WITH ANOTHER STOP AND DROP VESSEL!!! We have 1 canoe, 2 float tubes, 2 jon boats, and whaler. Never deplete the fleet, just add to it and increase your options
  8. Matt, I'm kind of around today, call me
  9. This one was always a contradictory bait for me. It has a prop which likes a hard yank to get it's attention but has the subtle cup up front which wants a slow, steady retrieve. Just not for me. If I want a prop bait, I use the Heddon Dying Flutter (a sturdier version of the smithwich devil's horse) or a woodchopper if I want louder props.
  10. Like the time we went out and you were drilling them on finesse worms...but I still couldn't put the jig down and switch over..... There's just something about that hop....hop....hop... BAM! I've created a monster :
  11. Now you're talkin'!!
  12. I've never had a jointed one come unscrewed but the super glue trick should solve that. As for retrieve, there is a ceertain speed (which seems very slow) that makes the bait give off a specific gurggle sound. For me,...that's the sweet spot. Pauses are good but hard jerks like a jerk bait, are not. It's the cadence that drives them nuts IMO. That steady gurgle is very trackable and sometimes, with a pause thrown in there, they just can't put the breaks on and that is the trigger. 90% of the time though, for me, it's a slow, steady retrieve. My personal favorites are the 5/8's, either jointed or not, doesn't matter. No luck with the big one this yr though. It acts like a different bait in that size, even with the 2 side hooks removed. I just couldn't seem to tune that one to something I was comfortable with. Different sound, different action, I'll stick with the 5/8 for now Another old Arborghast lure that took some nice fish this yr was the Hula Popper. Talk about "old school",lol. Matt's partner Rick caught a few monsters on that one this yr. It's a funny lure to hear from across the lake,...that tell tale bubble sound, no mistaking it.
  13. Kicking a rod overboard sucks. Forgetting the camera sucks Forgetting the Gore-tex sucks and is just dumb I think MY list is too long, the reply box only allows 9000 characters, lol.
  14. Sometimes, the best gift you can give, is yourself. Be there for someone who needs you whether they asked you to or not.
  15. I think it's great to teach a guy to cook. Cooking has opened many doors for me. It is no different than a shop class either. Directions for building a bird house are similar to a recipe for a meal. You need to know, amounts and proportions, the order things are done, which materials will be best, etc. I think both should be mandatory, shop and home ec. My buddy, married straight out of high school, can't make himself eggs!
  16. Basser, are you "tuning" the clicker? If it doesn't work right, it's usually because it HAS worked right and the clicker in the front can get bent from a Hawg chompin' down on it. You can also tweak them by shutting them in a box that just isn't deep enough. Bend the cup in or out till it gets the right sound again.
  17. I can wait till next weekend, give some guys a chance to read this during the week.
  18. I forgot the Pats are playing tomorrow. It will be mayhem up there. Let's aim for next Saturday. Meet at 11, shop a bit and meet at 12-12:30 at some place for a bite. Any other takers?
  19. Absolutely black during the day. They are hitting the action/sound, track-ability, vulnerability, etc. They don't care if it's black, purple or tie dyed lol plenty of food in their world is black, even the colored things when light is low. I just feel color is over thought 85% of the time.
  20. You're catching on black because that's what you are throwing. I'm catching on whatever color was closest when it was time to tie on because that's what I'm throwing.
  21. Times 2 Big T, hang tough, won't don't kill you will only make you stronger, everything happens for a reason.
  22. Michelle's dad got #4 this morning, his freezers will officially be full. Mine is next I just substitute venison for beef and don't buy steaks at the market. So, I use it in just about any place I would use a steak. I usually get more than enough to last me through the spring without buying beef so if you have a steak at my house in the winter,....guess what?. I've tricked a few people into liking venison Some common ways are Grilled w/ some Italian seasonings or cubed in a stew with lots of large chunky veggies, potato's,etc, or just a pan friend steak with some eggs.
  23. BEAT IT,...find your own patterns ;D 8-)
