  1. Questions are what we do;) Couple things, seeing as how you are admittedly new. You don't need a glove to handle the Largemouth Bass. The teeth are the equivalent to sandpaper. Bass engulf their prey and then crush and descale it in their throat. Look at some of our sonsors to save some money on tackle. For soft plastics, I highly reccommend ***. Great prices, great service now on a sidenote--a 6lb bass in Ontario is no friggin' joke!! You have terrain, exclusivity AND genetics going for you. Like I said earlier. GOLD MINE Enjoy it and ask away. (but only while you look into getting afloat!) GETTING AFLOAT
  2. I figured you would be the type to then dip it in some of that special Louisiana coffee!! lol
  3. If there is a scent around, I'll throw it on but it's not something I "need" to have confidence, just something I think "can't hurt". It's not like there will be no bite, then I put o some special, super secret scent and it's hit after hit,...but if it's around... Dirk usually has a bottle of BANG Garlic around. Megastrike is in the boat for a lube on swimbaits also, every once in a while, I'll slop a bit on a big spook too.
  4. Rondef- More important than lure or presentation, at night, is safety. -PFD's, if not on, close by. -Eliminate any floor clutter that is not necessary -bring a few sources of light (flashlight, headlamp, big beam, lighter) -Throwable flotation -cell phone -check all lights before leaving ramp and most importantly -Let someone on land, know where you are and when you expect to be back.
  5. I see your reasoning but can't totally agree. Plastics have turned up some of our biggest nighttime fish. Night fishing is no time to learn new water. I only suggest venturing at night on bodies of water you already know. With this in mind, search bait patterns shouldn't be neccessary. Camping out on flats and their edges are what night fishing is to us. Also, very clear water, loud baits aren't always recommended. Topwater action can surge with subtle types of twitch baits,.....but big ones. When our clear water reaches it's plankton max if you will, during the summer, thats pretty much the only time we get loud with big, huge rattle spooks like the excalibur but even then, the subtler of the loud baits shine. Jitterbugs, baby spooks just softly walked, etc
  6. What's with all the Loomis reports of rods snapping half way down???? Second one in 2 days. Good luck w/ replacement, sorry for your loss
  7. How can you NOT click on a thread with a title like that, lol. Way to go captain!
  8. I think Sam is hoping you have NONE of these lures so you'll say "Geez Sam, I don't have any of that stuff, why don't you come down one day and we'll spend the afternoon exploring" ALL good suggestions though!
  9. X2!!!!!!! Invest a couple hundred and grab a small jon boat or even a canoe and go explore your property. You have a gold mine there! Find the deepest part, there could very well be an old creek channel or hole that holds the majority of the fish in the high light hours. Awesome roadbed,...pay attention to that, fish will use it like we use a highway.
  10. Yup, we don't call them Pogies till they are full grown. BIG fertilizer business. recent legislature has re established "off limits" areas to the per seine boats and this vid is the result. Sometimes, being vocal can work.
  11. Hey, if it works for you, stay with it
  12. Those won't work,....especially in those stupid colors.......... :
  13. Do all you can to not disturb the slimecoat on the skin and NEVER interfere with the gills. Best way is by the lip, up and down, like this If you are going to hold it sideways,..ALWAYS support the belly, like this It is this second style where people mess up and do damage. If you DON'T support the belly, you can easily break the jaw. I'll hunt around for a "wrong" pic-anyone, any help?
  14. Toothpick, condom, comb, breath mint, quarter for a rescue call. You never know...
  15. I don't think shakespeare even has a blank line or program. Secondly, It's power and action don't fit with very many aspects of today's bass fishing. Too soft.
  16. That's it, I'm sending you this extra camera and I'm putting super glue all over it so when you lift it out of the box,.....you own it,lol.
  17. Go read up in some of the rod building forums online. Get an idea of the cost involved for tools, supplies, blanks, equipment, etc. Nothing cheap about being in the game, that also adds to the glamour of having one hand made by one of these guys, just for you. Most builder make VERY LITTLE profit on a build, it's more about being the artist and making something that someone will personally value. With that said, the cost for the blanks and eyes alone are usually more than a mid level, store bought rod.
  18. If it's the fall and temps have been steadily dropping in small increments for the last month or so, I like to jig the rock piles that get sunlight. It seems the radiant heating going on via the boulders draws fish in. When the temp drop is more drastic and is somewhat more significant, the bass will suck up in their favorite comfort areas around the structure. When they are like this, you all but have to shove it in their mouth but keep fishing because when it breaks, the bite is on, those fish are going to want to eat after being tight lipped for a bit.
  19. Yes, the commercial side of things is a whole different world and your comments apply all the way down the ladder to the guy that digs clams for a living. With regulations and limits decreasing, it's almost impossible to keep your head above water as a captain trying to do things the right way. As a deckhand, you work, keep your mouth shut , collect the check and go home. Stray from the course and trouble will surely ensue, right or wrong. Sucks, but that's the way it is.

  21. When bass "stunt" here, it means that there is not enough food and the general population remains tiny. 4-7 inches or so. There will be NO 3 lbrs. This guy looks like some fine azz genetics are at work. He's a muscle packed bull dog!
  22. This is saltwater. Those are Menheddan, also known as "Bunker". Right now, they range from 1" to 4-5", and they school by size. So cool to watch at the docks, one school of tiny ones will be coming one way and some 4 inchers coming straight at them and then they'll merge, very cool looking. I'll be down there again later today and will get some better footage.
  23. -If you find yourself in the clubs asking chicks if they wanna spawn -It's 3am, you are covered head to toe in Gore-Tex because of the relentless rain.....and your line is tight -You smile a lot -You're single but still consider yourself extremely faithful............ to your jiggin' stick -You go through 2-3 t/m's a year -you are here, on this site, reading this.
