Casting accuracy
I like the fact that the spawn is in the beginning of the season for us because casting to get a bait to land in a bed uses ALL the factors of "accuracy" wind drift fall of bait size of target surrounding obstacles approach and of course the cast. You can put it exactly where you intended but if "where you intended" was not factored properly,...the cast is moot. The spawn forces me to employ this type of casting so the rest of the season is easy. By the end of the spawn you are totally tuned back in to your game. (for those of us northeners that have an off season)

Whats your favorite part of bass fishing?
OK, I'll be the guy to say it,....SHOWIN' OFF!! *Like being Glenn and hitting a 9 in front of a bunch of the boys. *Like today when I was describing how it would go down and then casting and making it happen exactly as you called it,....repeatedly *Like being Fluke and being able to tell your friend who is working and just called you on the cell that you've got 30+ fish in the boat, they're feeding on a stable supply of bait and he's in the right spot at the right time. *Like being Fishchris on the ride home with digi pics just waiting to be shown in "My Tournament" *Like being Senko77 and not just showing up to play but winning,....often *Like being Triton21 and having a beautiful 9 w/ a great story that you just yanked from the livewell to show everyone back at camp *Like Randall or Jim B. or George W or Tom R., putting a customer on a fish of a lifetime etc etc

How many does it take to be a "good" day?
I expect nothing so anything that happens is "in the black"

Helmet
It's a part of life to lose people around you but I have lost 5 friends, 3 quite close, to motorcycle accidents. Not anti-bike or anything, if anything, I was "built" to ride motorcross and love it but on the road, the risk variables are too high for me. USE YOUR HEAD, and protect your skull. BRAIN BUCKETS ARE A MUST (trust me, they won't mess up your hair-do more than a 60 ft slide on the pavement will) Broken bones heal, brains don't. With a helmet, you at least have a chance.

Spawn behavior??
This is our current scenario in RI. Expecting a short powerful spawn this yr as fish have been waiting patiently for temps to elevate. 5 days ago- no signs of spawn RI water temps slow to warm this yr Fianlly had back to back 80 degree days-above avg 4 days ago- couple beds spotted 3 days ago- overnight, beds EVERYWHERE today but none show any sign of a "sweet spot" or occupants 2 days ago- fish on many if not most beds 30+ fish caught all 1-2.75 lbs 1 day ago- full blown spawn 40+ fish all male again "sweet spots" are starting to show up today-same spawning situation, fish and beds tougher to see because of higher winds but nonstop action just the same. Assuming tomorrow or saturday the females will start showing themselves. This is when we back off for a week or two and let them do their thing.

First Bass on Jigs, THANX LBH!
Absolutely!! Yesterday was a beautiful 81 degrees, SW at 5-10 when Eric and I were out and we were hitting small males on what felt like every cast. 40+ fish easily but nothing over 3 lbs. (Matt and Rick were out later when the wind picked up) Meeting Matt in 20 minutes for another go at it. He is bringing the welder and is going to make "Big Red" all better. I'll feel much better when she's in the water again. I will say this,....for a bunch of buck bass, they fought like TRUCKS! CHECK IT OUT

Don't you love it when............
I was using a finesse worm on a knucklehead jig last night. Eric said, "no way that'll come through the grass". He was right. Thing is....the bites were coming after it would hang up and I would give that exaggerated "pop" to free it. (Just like I planned, lol) :

EEEK!!!!
It was in one of our videos. We also used it to photoshop a model for a mini bass boat project I was contemplating (was a thread). I think it is from Lake Eerie. That's nothing though, remember the old Ranger commercial about 6-8 yrs ago???

Bee Anxiety Continues :/
Pack the hull with towels before you flip the boat. I am also allergic to bees, I carry an epi-pen with me all the time during bee season. ( I must look like a real winner, 2 self admitting shots on board all the time, adrenaline and imitrex) I don't mind them though. I don't bother them, they don't bother me. (unless you count the one that stung me in the throat after he found his way into my pepsi can and got swallowed, lol)

What are the best lines for spinning reels
Everything will twist on spinning gear, it's the nature of the beast. Take the time to let the line out behind the boat as you troll along once in a while, this will remove the majority of the twist for the time being. (no lure attached) Obviously braids and superlines are less resistant to twist but aren't as good as a multi purpose line.

Digital Camera
fujifilm s5000,5200 or 5600. DO NOT BUY A PACKAGE!!!! Buy a good set of 15 minute rechargeables and an extra set of 4 batts buy a 1gig card. THAT"S ALL YOU NEED!! This will stand you less than $350 I have turned 7 people on to this camera (model #'s all represent basically the same camera, different yrs, a few diff things but nothing major) and they will all swear by it. For some odd reason, it records video at a higher resolution than anything in it's price range. This camera can even make a few ugly old mugs good looking,...really, it works wonders! see for yourself

Painting bottom of Jon Boat
Fix the leaks properly. Less money, last a lot longer. put boat on saw horses, fill with 5" of water. Circle leaking rivets with crayon. Have those few rivets welded OR drill out old rivet, replace w/ tapered head bolt and nut. (coat bolt threads with 3m 5200 marine adhesive/sealant) If you are going to use a paint on product to seal it, do it on the inside. Catt- hate to disagree with such a fine fellow but fiberglass resin DOES NOT last on an aluminum boat. My boat was loaded with the junk and it wasn't doing anything other than adding weight. works great for a week or so,...or until the hull gets good flex.
