  1. Try a 2/0 circle hook. They are designed to come out of the gut and get lodged in the hinge of the mouth. This will resolve many of your gut hooks. There is a trick with using a circle hook however. You do not "set" the hook with a swing of the rod like usual. Instead, you just raise the rod applying even pressure and the fish sets the hook for you. Go look in "tackle",..there is a tread about it. I thinkit says,.."what is an octopus hook"
  2. Flech- I feel the same way, you'll notice in many of my videos that I "make" them come up but if I were a competition angler and that fish was the equivelant to a $100k check..........
  3. nboucher sporting his new shirt on my boat yesterday!
  4. My suggestion is a link to a map. Click on the state and it will show all the members that "voluntarily" put their name there as a "contact to fish" or "contact for local info"
  5. THAT'S AWESOME!! Way to go Greg,..how about 1 more? I can't believe the local papers in Ga never did anything about senko77, a 12 and a 14lbr all before age 16. We certainly do have an all-star jr line-up ar BR!! How come no adults are in the papers?? I was once but it was a very, very different section, lol. WAY TO SMOKE 'EM GREG!!
  6. I'm going to have to assume, you were on schoolies, 1-7 lbs ish. Great for teaching someone fly fishing. 5 wt rods are perfect provided you aren't in current. Lots of fun and some pretty fish! How big do they get where you are? Our record is in the 70's but a 50 pounder isn't uncommon. That's one fishery that is a success story so far. When I was a kid, all I had was stories fromthe old timers about stripers. Now we can go target them specifically and be on all sizes for hours. PS-the crays were just molting. Caught a bass this morning, pulled on the antannea of the cray in throat and the shell was all but see thru, milky. No spots! Thanks for your assistance there.
  7. Not this young guy!! Those are two highly respectable qualifications if you're coming on my boat! Too bad we are so far from each other. I fish with members all of the time, all ages, all levels. I really enjoy it but I never had to "guide" for a living either, it's always just to experience other fishing folk. Went out with nboucher last night and had a great outting. CPvenom- you have a great pool of guys here to approach.
  8. Welcome back. Where'd you go man?
  9. I have found that big flats at night can be great but you really gotta campout on it. We fish the edges of the flat, corners in particular at night and find few fish but always quality. They seem to roam up there for an hour or 2 and then they are gone but if you are there when they show up,you're inn for a good night. This is the plan tonight. Heading out to meet member nboucher for the first time. I plan on fishing some deep grass lines and dop offs in particular. We will start with the small flats off the tongues of the islands and as the sky gets brighter, we'll move deeper. In short, if you're fishing a flat that produces well during the day,...sit tight and let them come to you but don't sit up in the middle of it,...Hug an edge, preffereably the one near the deeper water.
  10. I mentioned the weight because I thought I read that he fishes alot of electric only, ooops,.my mistake, no such comments. By all means,...GO NUTS!
  11. He He,...can you smell the smoke? LINK IS HERE
  12. You have lots of options here but time, money and talent will direct your course. If you are simply looking to Level the floors (sit wood on ribs) then the foam is not neccessary. Keep them removable for cleaning. Notching at a few of the ribs prevents shifting. You can also get away with 3/8 cdx with a quick, thin coat of urethane before carpeting. This method has worked in countless 12-16 ft jons we have owned. Ifyou plan to build full decks, watch your weight. Time and time again you'll see boats loaded with 2x4's and 3/4inch ply but then the thing weighs a 1000 lbs! This is my current 12
  13. In all fairness,...it tells you that the times you were in the right areas, you were throwing artificials more than live bait. Can you say 100% that you couldn't have caught those fish on those days if you were live lining a fresh, succulent 10 inch live rainbow? Big controversy for me is the "But I kill them on watermelon" type quote. Well,...if that's all you throw,........see what I mean? Just cause someone kills them on watermelon Same works in reverse,..."fish weren't biting today" (maybe not on watermelon) if that's all you threw, who knows what they MAY have hit? We'll never know!
  14. Running the wires is extremely easy and a "must do" suggestion. They sell all kinds of clips and cradles for wire managment, below is a link to just 1 of the many types. You would screw these (I know you can use a screwdriver, lol) up under the lipof your canoe. 1 screw each, simple. RUn zip tie thru it and sinch it up. Probably only need 6-8 of these. This allows you to put the weight of the battery up in the bow and still have no wires to trip on. Weight in the bow will be a huge advantage in wind also. Bow will be much more managable with an extra 50 lbs up there. Even if you are all thumbs LITERALLY, you could still do this, lol. It's about twice as easy as spooling a real.
  15. "reserve capacity" is the number you are looking for when using strictly as a T/m Battery. I use the 220 minute sears diehard's and they come in 160,180,200 and 220 minute reserve. 220 is the biggest you'll find out there. I run them on each 55 endura and have yet to run low so I really couldn't tell you how long they will last. Being in a canoe, I wouldn't go too huge because your weight is solight,it's not really neccessary.
  16. Optima makes a top notch sealed battery. I used them exclusively for car audio,...word is that they have expanded to a T/M line but I promise,...it won't be cheap! Battery boxes work great but routine maintenence goes a long way. Routine rinsing with water and baking soda is highly reccommended.
  17. Whatever you do to "work" it will be too much. Cast, let if fall on slack line. Wait, wait, wait, .....bottom......wait, wait, ...slight lift,....if nothing, repeat. PS-Keep an eye on that line at all times, looking for the tell-tale "V" wake.
  18. I'll be at Forrest's house If he's not home, I guess I'll borrow his plane and go join the party you guys will have rolling, down on the Amazon.
  19. Shore,..I'd love to go fishing,....just lemme grab my boat! lol
  20. We used one for a canoe we had yrs ago. THe batt weighed more but we just put the batt in the middle of the canoe , slightly off center to balance motor. THis should certaily help you get back on the water,...will be much easier on your body. Good luck buddy.
  21. I feel like a proud older brother! Kudos to mom for recognizing a healthy time occupier and supporting it so well. You may not have caught much but numbers aren't the only thing that gain rspect. Respect you obviously earned from this guy. Well Done.
  22. I'm going to agree with Whop-stop. There is lots you can do with the rod to assist in keeping the fish. Ever see someone quickly shove the rod in the water, tip down like they are stabbing the bottom? This helps when a fish is trying to surface and shake the hook out. Also, how about boat position and control. I generally know where I am casting and why. I think about what thwe fish will do when it's hooked from the standpoint of where my boat is. A perfect example was the 6.3 I got onthe 4th of July (video)In the video, you'll notice that the fish burns for the weeds. I knew where I was that this ciould happen but was somewhat prepared but not the point. You'll notice how the fish pulls my bow with her. If I had a realboat w/ a bow mount motor, I could have been using my foot to pull the boat hard left which would have also helped keep that fish from getting in the grass.
  23. Sweet!! Glenn, you can see all the episodes online. Hawg_Hunter and I have been talking with Mike at Lunkerville all week about possibly doing somthing. Lots of guys from the site have been in shows. Doghouse Randall Earthworm Dodgeguy Etc. We submitted video footage for another thing he's putting together also. It's a home videos from Lunkerville type of thing. Should be cool. Craig- Can't wait to see this one,....Are you gonna fall out of the boat or make Bill Dance look coordinated or somthing? Real people, real fishing stories
  24. I'll fish the Koi out of the fountain at your summer party if I'm bored, lol. .................Fishin' is fishin'. I gave up catching 1000lb tuna to have more time bass fishing,...it is what it is and size isn't everything. Sometimes, lol.
  25. WELCOME ABOARD!! Oakland soul,....gotta love it (big Tower of Power fan)
