Massachusetts tips
A little education goes a long way. BLUEGILL do far more egg eating damage than Pickerel. A healthy pickerel population controls the bluegill population. Without a solid representation of all size Pickerel at our lake, the B/G population would surely take over. Sytems are balanced for a reason, selectively harvesting a certain specie because you don't like them is nothing but irresponsible. We have educated biologists who are trained to assess population status, leave that to them. Just my .02 for what it's worth.

soft plastic troubles,
BINGO When you think that you've slowed down enough,....slow down a whole bunch more. You want to keep the bait in the strike zone and as far from you as possible,...for AS LONG as possible. This means just "shaking" the bait in place instead of reeling and pumping and bouncing. Shake shake, jiggle, jiggle....wait.......wait......wait......wait some more......more.....more..... more,.......mooooore.....wait, .....wait... shake......wait......wait..... Even try just leaving it there,......you'll be surprised.

yet another night fishing question
That's awesome. Your attitude is where it is at though. It's just like trying to learn a new presentation. It probably won't go perfectly at first but you learn as you go and with that comes a comfort and confidence. Also, just because you are there at night, this does not guarantee you a bite or guarantee you topwater action. That';s something to adjust to at first because the expectations can be so high. tip- I have found (this morning was perfect example) that if there isn't even a follower or blow up on the topwater, I go directly to the bottom with a jig. (as the next step in trying to put together a pattern) Once you have a night where the bite is on,....it's awesome,...you get that, plus the feeling that you have the whole bite allll to yourself. Either way, I know you'll be back,......I'm that guy on the boat ramp alllll the time, lol......same look you get when it's snowing out....I look forward to those looks, and now so will you.

Clay Dyer---Amazing!!!
Clay knows us well He is also the CAST For Kids national spokesperson, since 2007. Below is a small video of encouragement from him that he forwarded to us at the conference in las Vegas last year. He had just become the spokesperson and was supposed to attend but previous scheduling would not permit it, so he sent along his .02 cents. Clay (a good message for your kids to hear if they're around)

Crickets in the clubhouse
I love how the traffic drops on Friday nights and Saturdays,......everyones FISHIN'!!! We have had a huge growth spurt this spring but many of us spent the winter together griping and moaning and getting on each others nerves. Yet we prevailed. So here we are, everyone, no matter where you live, has active bass roaming their waters. G A M E O N!!! Let's take a second and raise a mug to the '08 season because winter will be here again before we know it!! Come Monday, the board will light up again, ...."My tournament or outing" will be on fire and all the new people who will hear about us this weekend will be posting their intros. Pretty cool clubhouse we got here, lol.

How much does it weigh?
Having the full picture would get you a better weight approximation. Having you as a "control" to compare against helps. On that note, I'm with T-Rig, maybe a hair under 4. 3.75-4lbs. The bigger point is that as long as it went back in the water, she could easily be 5-5.5 the next time you see her "Just like humans, length doesn't determine weight. " --I'm stealing that A couple 3.5-4lbrs to compare to:

Ever do this?
I've seen this mistake made on the ocean where the rod has done much more damage. Breaking the nose bridge or cheekbone 20 miles offshore can't be fun. This was at the CAST Alumni day. Pond full of hogs and one of the kids had one bury in the weeds with my rod so......Russ to the rescue : video-DUH
