  1. To reiterate, WRB made me rethink my post. To clarify- I am speaking about my home lake and "deep water" is 20-25 ft max which borders flats that range from 5' to 12 ft deep. Not really a true definition of "deep" where the thermocline is a very big factor, but this is what is relevant to my world. (223 acre lake) ------------------------------------------------------------------ As for baits, these are some of my favorites J-bug #1, not many will dispute that Heddon SUPER spook (big) Heddon Dying flutter (twin prop bait) Renosky crippled shad (twitch bait) Heddon spitting image J-Bug (deserves 2 mentions ) -------------------------------------------------------------- couple more notes Have pfd's out and ready if not on, in the night, things happen Bring lights (headlamps are best) Also bring extra batteries Keep your floor clean!! Avoid needless accidents, put things back in their place immediately after use CELL PHONE or some type of alternate communication Lights hold baitfish. Bass like baitfish. Docks with lights, boat houses, etc,...all good targets Good luck, be safe and catch 'em up
  2. Our better class bass are out in the structureless-looking water 90% of the time anyway. What is under the water, can be much more appealing to a bigger bass than what is sticking out of the water. It's a tough transition when you try to "get off the bank" because you are putting your trust in the science of what we are telling you instead of what you already know as a learned condition (one with eye candy no less, trees, docks, bank brush, etc) Until those first few fish come, confidence can be tough to gain. Once they do though,...there's no looking back (at the bank, hehe) Don't get me wrong, we fish the whole lake, but......deep water structure is the main priority when assessing water. This especially applies during the high sun conditions as the bass will move deeper to adjust to the high light condition. (light sensitive eyes) Topo maps are a must here. You want to look for flats and points. Then narrow it down to the ones with deep water access nearby. These basic principles apply regardless of day or night. I also have no base belief in color other than, whatever the color is when you got it in front of them,....that's probably the color that will work, lol. With every new day I fish, I become a firmer believer that we give fish waaaaaaay too much credit. It is becoming simpler and simpler to me as I get more time in the boat. color, size, brand, etc are much less a factor to the bass I think than these primary factors...... A. it appears "edible" B. it is catchable w/o expending more energy than it is worth Keeping it simple in a low budget world, lol Many here will disagree with some or all of my beliefs but that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!
  3. ......90% of the time, but there are instances. Like tonight,...I'm fishing open, clear water, we'll be out on a few different flats in the middle of the lake. with nothing to cast at but open water, we'll be sending the baits as far from the boat as possible. In the case of the super spook on the new stx,...it'll be closer to the next town, lol. Being as we are fishing the night hours, it is also a safer, easier alternative (open water, flats fishing) than risking a tangle with the bank. It just helps that the big fish are out near that deeper water too. So the idea here is "long cast gets the bass",.....in clear water, we want it as far from "us" as possible. Having nothing within reach to interfere with you......Send that puppy. (also a great way to get used to a new baitcaster,....scope out it's potential with limitless distance restraints)
  4. Catt, I never realized we had this in common. I know you are a big fan of the night but we follow the same path,....once those water temps are up, nighttime is the right time
  5. The jester is one that I have, it's actually roomier than it looks. LOVE IT I use it for my daily stuff, work, etc. For on the boat, I use the base camp tool sack (waterproof)
  6. Sorry guys, too many fish, not enough time, lol. I'll get on it asap. It's about 1/2 done so far. Wayne, don't hold your breath, your picture was too ugly to impose on the public anyway. ;D
  7. http://www.thenorthface.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?categoryId=11748&langId=-1&storeId=201&catalogId=10201 8 pages of "daypacks"
  8. like "guy with carp avatar and Kivver name,on Bass site" ? ;D
  9. Cool *Mod Note*- Please read the FAQ's. You will find the tutorials for posting single pics, multiple pics, and avatars.
  10. I'll have to take offense on that one as I personally trained drivers for the last 6 yrs, lol. I can tell you this, we train, and retrain and drill and re-drill our drivers more than any other fleet oriented company out there. Bar none, hands down. Most people see us backing and assume it is haphazard when in reality, we have assessed over 20 variables before the truck was ever shifted in to reverse (things like assessing the yard for pets[water bowls, leashes] signs of kids[toys], overhangs, width, where is the "out",etc) and over 180 before we complete the stop. Also, there is a camera. You have no idea how often most people think we got "lucky" on that maneuver, but don't realize we had a full scope of the environment the whole time. If you have a problem with the level of driving skill and training involved with a UPS driver, I'm sorry to say, you have an issue with all but an extremely small percentage of the population. Law enforcement and stunt drivers are the only ones that get training above and beyond what we do. Even at that, the "safety" (strictly regarding the driving aspect of their job)side of their training is not as in depth as ours, I can guarantee that. So can OSHA, the NTA and Liberty Mutual. But all that means nothing, it's our performance record that counts and ours speaks for itself. Just for the record.
  11. Whoever "professionally packaged" it,....if they are really professional (mail boxes etc, UPS store, etc) owns that claim. Fedex will ask for the original packaging and then they will deny the claim when they see how poorly it was shipped.
  12. What,....have you never noticed??......we park wherever we want, lol. The driver was most likely getting ready to sweep out his truck and figured it would be easier on an angle.
  13. **Mod note** Peasey- Link was broken, I went in and tried to fix it but couldn't figure out where it was broken, please re-post. Thanks
  14. I've been hunting less and less lately. I'm just too old for the club scene nowadays..... : ;D
  15. Someone's needs a Tuna or Bluefish on light gear Bottom pounding is only 1 of MANY, MANY aspects of saltwater angling from 30-40 lb stripers on flies and Blues outside your back door balling up bait to 1000lb tuna on 18'-21' boats where the boat/captain are as important as the angler/rod. Quite honestly, it's a whole different realm (but so is the cost)
  16. 5 bass, nothing wrong with that! Try those trick sticks "wacky" rigged also
  17. I could have sworn you just bought a Tuscon....
  18. Ok,...Nooooow I know why we never made it there...... ;D: Great day!
  19. ok, issue resolved. I have these hosted on Hawghunters server and I fear it may be submerged right now. :'( (Iowa flooding) I went and hosted it on my site, link should work now.
  20. Yes, harvested. Especially Tuna,lol.....Just don't hit the BELLY!! (that's the pricey meat)
  21. nah, bunch of lightweights, I think other than the Heineken mini keg, we've never had more than a 6-pack on my boat, and even that's only twice a season maybe. Friday afternoon and we are both out of work by 11:00am,....90 degrees,.....it's one of those days, lol. (even still, that was only his 1st, he's just naturally twisted,....3-5 days in a boat with me for 16 yrs will do that to you, lmao)
  22. Said even better, lol. I just want folks to really understand what this is about, it's not just a lucky charm, it's a personal interaction, symbolic of this online community and the things we hold dear. Last season, it was Clay Dyer. This year it's Brian Reeves, Accepting on behalf of our troops abroad So round and round and round it goes, where it catches,....nobody knows. Could it be in your mailbox tomorrow morning??? Go Go MOJO!!!
