  1. Does anyone know where I can get some of the compact silhoutte series spinnerbaits? I can't seem to find them anymore, and they are just deadly. I guess I can build my own, but I have enough stuff going on and didn't really want to start "another project"

I have only been building rods for about 2-3 years. Maybe 15 rods total. I have yet to do a spiral wrap, but it seems like it is the way to go. Any tips on starting one of these? Is there any info on guide placement out there? I am going to build a spinnerbait rod over the holidays for a friend, and I am considering the spiral wrap for it. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The 2 blanks I would look at are both St. Croix SCIV. 4C70HF wich is their Slop-n-Frog blank. It is 7' fast action heavy power. Great rod. I just built one of these towards the end of summer and I love it. It makes one heck of a frog rod. The other blank is a new model of theirs they call the Big Gulp. Model # is 4C711HMF It is a 7'11" heavy power with a moderate fast action. I hear it is a pretty sweet blank too. I highly recommend the St. Croix blanks, and if you can get the SCIV blanks, you will be hard pressed to find a finer blank IMO.

Does anyone know if their is an updated list of anglers who have qualified to fish the Elite series next year. In particular, I am looking to see if Joe Thomas will be fishing in it. I really like Angler on Tour. It just goes to show you how good these guys really are. He is a great angler, but has had a tough couple of seasons. Thanks

Solar Bat in the Shadow model are awesome One of the best pairs of glasses I have ever owned in any price range. They are 69.99 @ Bass Pro Shops. I am wearing them in the picture on my avatar.
  7. Sammy is awesome I also bought a couple of the SPRO walking baits and they are very nice too.
  8. I ordered a ton of the skirted grubs, just to use the skirts for my knock off Ika's. Awesome prices. I got the order in a week. Great service ;D
  9. Try this one too. http://www.bobstackleshack.com Quality molds as our Del's.
  10. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get some rod components that are in a camo pattern. All I can find is EVA camo grips, which I will not use EVA. I figure I might just have to buy some camo tape, and tape the grip after the fact. Do they make any reel seets or blanks for that matter in camo? I build on mostly St. Croix, but this is for a friend who is really into hunting, so I am open to all brands, as long as the quality is good.
  11. IMO, great reel. I have 4 of them, and I love them. I used to fish all Team Daiwa, but now I have started to migrate to the Quantums. It is hard to beat the Daiwa though.
  12. I am in the process of upgrading my electronics on my new boat. I am thinking of getting the following: Bow: Lowrance X-125 black and white unit Console: Lowrance LMS 334iGPS color unit What do you guys think? I figure I don't need color on both front and console, plus I need to save some money, so I think this might do it.
  13. Legend Tournament rods are great I bought one, and built 4 others with their blanks. They are actually my favorite rods right now.
  14. I had a powerdrive for a couple of years, and I could not stand it from day one It steers way too slowly, and since it is using power to turn, it drains your batteries faster. It also is a pain in the butt to stow and deploy compared to other models. I had the 70lb thrust model and would not recommend it to anyone. JMO
  15. Microwave and pyrex is the way to go I also use some production pots, but mainly for big quantities of the same color.
  16. I pour my own "knock offs" and I have real good success on smallies. I fish a lot of smallmouth lakes, and pitching one of these around docks can be deadly. I tend to use the 4" models for smallmouth and the 5" for largemouth. I have the best luck with browns and green colors.

  19. I sank my 1989 Tracker 1800 FS over the summer. After battling with the insurance company, I made out like a bandit ;D Here is my new toy. It only had approx. 40 hours on it, and I actually got it for about 5 grand under blue book. It also has rod lockers that fit 7' rods, which is very rare for a fish and ski model. The guy had two high school kids who didn't like to be on the water. His loss my gain
  20. Lurecraft has everything you need to get started. http://www.lurecraft.com Aluminum molds are the best available, but I also use some silicone molds.
  21. There is an E-book that you can download online. It is done by Craig Defronzo. I have been thinking of getting it even though I have been pouring baits for years. It is always nice to see other peoples techniques. Craig makes some awesome baits, and has extensive knowledge on the subject. Go to ebay and do a search on hand pours, you will find it there.

It sounds like your plastic is not mixed properly. What plastic are you using? Some of the plastic, like Lurecraft really needs to be mixed up well. You need to scrape all of the hardener off of the bottom of the jug. I use M-F because it just requires a few shakes and you are all set. Look at the bottom of the jug, and see if there is a clump of harderner. If that isn't your problem, then it could be a bad batch of plastic, but that really doesn't happen too often. The bad batches of plastic mentioned in the previous post was referring to a bubble problem, not softness issues. Good luck.
  23. Yea, they are no longer being made, but the company has just been bought by a different group and I hear they are going to reopen the plants. Hopefully if this happens, then their will be some good customer service for viper owners.
  24. I have looked at the fish-n-ski's seriously for the last couple of years. I have a wife and three kids and a straight bass boat was pretty much out of the question. After looking at every brand on the market, I actually found a used Viper Coral fish-n-ski that actually has it all. Granted, it doesn't have the deck space of a straight bass boat, but it does have two rod lockers, that will fit 7' rods. It is 20' in length and will actually haul butt! (65mph on GPS with 200 HP Johnson) It is built on the Viper hull, so it is the sleekest looking of the fish-n-ski's (IMO) It seats 7 people and has plenty of storage. It has 2 large livewells and it fishes great. Another bonus is that it has an unlimeted horsepower rating If you can find one, check it out. I think they are the best available. I will post a picture when I get a chance.
  25. One more for you, Western Goby
