  1. What size and brand hooks do you use? Thanks
  2. Great post, thanks. I'm trying to simplify my creek kayak fishing this season and lighten my tackle and rod arsenal when I'm out there. I seem to take way too much stuff and it's a constant battle and not as enjoyable. If you don't mind could you elaborate on a few things? Everyone and they're mother throws a texas rigged 3" or 4" Senko in this specific creek and I'd like to do try some different presentations this year. I assume you're referring to a 1 size mosquito light hook? Not a 1/0? I normally wacky rig with a 1/0 or 2/0 EWG and clear plastic tubing on a 5" Senko but would like to downsize both hook and Senko size on the creek. Do you have any recommendations on finesse football jig heads for rage menaces and other craws? This particular creek is pretty rocky so the more snag proof the better? Also, what ball jig head for Keitechs? I was looking at the Gamakatsu ball heads. I don't fish tubes much but I think they'd do wonders in this creek as well, so any recommendations on brand of tube jig head? I saw Gamakatsu makes one as well. I think I've got topwater covered as I always have a topwater rod and whopper plopper with me but need to grab a spook or two. Any tips on rigging any of the plastics would maybe help as well. I know you said to not overthink it, haha but I always do and that's part of my problem. I overthink things, take too much stuff (4 to 5 rods and tons of tackle) My main goal this summer is to simplify and downsize when I float this particular stretch of creek. Thanks
  3. Wow, this is awesome! If anyone wants to learn how to fish arguably the best bass lure ever invented, read this thread. I plan on diving deeper in my free time.
  4. Not a Stradic, but I've got a 1000 Nasci on my dedicated ned rig rod. Dobyns Sierra 682s and it balances wonderfully.
  5. Man, you can't get any better than this. What a reply! Cheers friend.
  6. In my short stay here, even though he's caught some good bass and most of Tom's advice is pretty good........ He's still the "get off my lawn" resident poster. Anyways, I slowly upgraded over the years and bought when there was too good of sales to pass up. Most expensive rods I own are NRX's. (853c, 854c) Reels paired with them are Curado K's and while they're nice, those rods deserve lighter. It's a slippery slope........... Oh, and they haven't significantly increased my numbers on the water, but they've increased my enjoyment. When people say you can feel a fish breathe on that jig or worm, they're right. I work hard for my stuff and life is short.
  7. Yeah, don't know the exact retail off the top of my head but I sold some IMX Pro casting rods about a year ago that had only been used twice for $250 each. So, if you could grab one for $220-230 I'd say you did good.
  8. Yes, IMX Pro is definitely more sensitive. If you poke around you can find most Loomis rods for 30-40% off retail. ?
  9. Yeah, my 6 speed K's are smoother than my HG or XG K's.
  10. I too fish from a yak. For my dedicated wacky rigging and weightless Senko rod I use a 68 Avid X M/xf
  11. I want to try the flip and pitch model but waiting to find it somewhere a little cheaper than $249
  12. I'm in the market for a heavy pitching stick as well for 1/2 to 3/4 oz. jigs plus trailer. Trailer will more than likely always be a rage bug. I also fish out of my yak. Right now I'm really considering the Dobyns DX745c paired with a Daiwa Elite flip/pitch reel. I have a few NRX's too (853c,854c), but really don't feel confident in either for what I'm trying to accomplish, pitching into fairly heavy cover, grass and underwater vegetation and timber. I'm hoping the Dobyns rod will work and I'm not disappointed with the sensitivity after being spoiled by the NRX's.
  13. I have a bunch in the corner of the garage too, and don't really know why I keep them. I never sell or ship any rods. Guess I'm just a packrat.
  14. Uh yeah, little thing called Coronavirus.
  15. Best do it all rod for everything you listed on the market right now is the Dobyns Sierra 734c. JMHO

Yeah, when I throw a Senko I'm guilty of gut hooking a fish at least once a trip. I really like the line on my Senko setup (6lb YZH) but I might switch to a more visible line, thinking neon braid.
  17. I'd be all over that deal, but like others have said I would use it as a crankbait specific rod. I have a Legend Glass I use as a crankbait specific rod but also have an Avid MM I also use for cranks. You can never have enough crankbait rods IMO and for $100 I'd jump all over it.
  18. Under for sure. No j/k I went out in the garage and looked at the last and only Daiwa T-wing reel I own and sure enough, over.
  19. I think a 3/8 oz jig with trailer is too much for my 853c. I plan on getting an 873crr soon to throw 3/8 and 1/2 jigs with trailer.
  20. Following. I love crankbait fishing and throw a squarebill all year long (spring, summer, fall). I have varied success so looking forward to some tips. Like Hook2Jaw above, I have the most luck throwing into wood, or in creeks I fish, rock.

I've got a 40 on the way, and from other suggestions in another thread plan to throw it on my new 795sb rod with 20lb mono. Sounds like that might be too much of a rod?
  22. Coming from a huge fan of St. Croix, the NRX is worth it. I just got my first few about a year ago after upgrading from some IMX Pros, and I'm impressed. They're my bottom contact rods, texas rigs and jigs. I still fish with all my St. Croix rods as well, and actually my favorite rod in my arsenal is probably my Legend Glass, mainly because I love crankbait fishing over most other techniques.
  23. Noticed on TW that not only they're 11 days out to ship but they're also not backordering any rods/reels/lures.

How exactly does this work? I might need to grab one.
