  1. A guy I just met at a church function invited me to go fishing with him in his subdivision lake (which I've been wanting to try) in my jonboat. We went last night and things started off pretty slow as it was a new lake to me and he is a nooblet at bass fishing. He wanted to fish this shoreline where he had alot of success about 1 year ago. The depth of the water about 2 feet from shore goes down quickly to 7-8 feet then after another 2-3 feet out goes down to 15 feet. As it was 6 pm I suggested we try and find some shallower water near a drop off but he wanted to try there during what time we had. He started off with what he had tied on which was a weightless chartruese worm and wasn't having much luck. I put on a Zoom red shad Utail with a 1/8 worm weight and caught a couple in the first 30 minutes. He never had a bite and switched up to some other lures he had. I offered to set him up with the same thing I was using but he declined. About 1 hour later I had a couple more and he seemed a little off that I was catching fish and he wasn't getting a hit. I mentioned again that he might want to switch colors of the worm he was using. He did switch to a motor oil color but still going weightless. My next dozen casts resulted in hits or fish but all about 1.5 pounds or less. He made a statement like 'man it's like loaning your golf club to someone and they hit it better than you'. I mentioned alot of fishing is just being at the right place at the right time with the right lure but it kind of fell on deaf ears. He ended up skunked but still okay but I'm not sure I'll get another invite back anytime soon. How would you handle something like that? I felt like I was very personable and humble enough (no trash talking and offering him the same rig I was using.)
  2. Remember, the women are drinking too! Imagine how good us fishermen look to them after several drinks.
  3. X2. Nice lookin' fish there.
  4. Thanks Bud. http://www.porcupinefishattractor.com/pricing.htm Here is their pricing list for those interested. fishinfiend, Good luck. After reviewing the prices of the porcupine, I may just purchase a set of 3 of the spheres @ $46.85 total. Not bad. WTRDOG, you often throw fishing lures around swimming areas? Guessing those hooks may be even worse than these fish attractors. Personally I don't fish in areas people swim in and certainly wouldn't put something like this where people could get hurt on it.
  5. X2; It's big enuff. (5lber solid!)
  6. Nice fish; I agree with you on the weight......maybe even 3. I love watching them hit a spinnerbait being retrieved just below the surface. Thrown up next to shore and pulling by a log; BAM!
  7. Where do you get the green center piece at? Can you construct it or do you have to buy it somewhere? Thanks
  8. That was good man; thanks.
  9. Nice fish bud!
  10. Congrats; that's a nice color on her.
  11. No problem; I know it may look hard to build but it's not hard at all. The center will be the hardest thing to drill out but you really don't have to make it like that. Start sketching it out and you'll come up with something easier I'm sure. The easiest thing to do is to do what five.bass.limit suggested but you run the risk of snags with actual trees. **edit** here's a photo of a rather simple design for that PVC tree. As someone else suggested, probably should find out if it's legal to use this. Looks like a 5 gallon paint bucket with cement in bottom. Insert PVC at angles while cement is still curing. Couple or three of these and it should simulate a stump field. Good luck either way.
  12. http://www.probass.net/protips/mdial/md41.php The above is an article about a thing called Porcupine fish attractor that you make out of PVC. I've been thinking about something similar and this seems to fit the bill. Supposedly won't snag your lures and fish will treat it like a submerged tree/bush.
  13. Done it a couple times. Once years ago in Arkansas a friend and I pulled into this little cow pond (pay $2.00 to fish it) and just looking at the pond I bet him a beer that I'd catch a fish in the first five casts. Caught a nice 4 lber on the first cast (buzzbait). Other time was the fish in my avatar. Put alot of work getting my new boat ready, it was leaking so I called it a day and while it's draining I make a cast near the ramp saying 'all that work for the boat, now watch me catch something from shore.' Bingo. ;D
  14. Nice fish Paul. Whatchu get it on?
  15. Nice fish man. Congrats. Go buy a scale from Walmart; it comes with a tape measure too.
  16. Hey when it gets a little bigger, see if it'll hit a banjo minnow.
  17. I do miss fishing for Smallies in the Monogahelia River in Pittsburgh, PA. I used to catch alot of them under the Smithfield Street bridge by Station Square. Man did those fish fight. That being said, I'd rather have a better shot at catching a mammoth LMB here in Georgia than anything else.
  18. How do you say 'that fish that got away had to be 15 lbs' in Italian? Nevermind; welcom aboard.
  19. "Take nothing for granted," Buck states flatly. "Never assume bass are shallow, because they may be deep. Never believe they will hit a fast-moving lure, not a slow one." Very good post Catt; Buck's philosophy seems to scream 'Keep it simple, stupid!' or not to let your ego get in the way of catching fish. Let the conditions, lake and fish tell you where the productive spots are at.
  20. Would you get the million(s) in one lump sum? Probably not. But unless you're a complete fool, there should be no reason you'd have to worry about tackle for the rest of your life. Say you catch it on a Zoom worm; well I buy alot of plastics at Wally World, Dicks and BPS. Guessing whoever came in with the highest offer would be where I remember buying those worms at. Not to mention Zoom will make sure you never need worms and probably give you $$ as well.
  21. good to meet ya.
  22. Any one of them I can't download for free... : Just kidding; I know they wanted to sue everyone that downloaded off of Napster illegally.
  23. Sounds delicious. Is it up to the cook whether the Italian sausage is mild or hot?
  24. Man, I feel for you. Thoughts and prayers going out to you and yours.
  25. Don't have any idea. Kind of looks like one of my sister-in-law's earring.
