  1. Good luck man. Seems like this should be front page news or we should be seeing this on Foxnews or CNN.
  2. BTW, I'm guessing your size to be approx 6'2" or just over and about 190-200lbs. Lemme know.
  3. Wasn't afraid of offending you; I'm with Paul Roberts in that I believe them to all be over 4lbs and most over 5lbs but then again, I believe mine to be as large as those you have pictured. That's what I meant by come off sounding the wrong way and that guessing seems to be inconsistent. 8-)
  4. Nice looking fish but I'm not going out on that limb. It's not that I don't want to be wrong; I just don't want to come off the wrong way. The guesses here on the forums are kind of odd and inconsistent. Assuming the female holding #3 is not 6' tall, I'd guess #3 is the smallest of the bunch (weight and size wise) 20" or less & < 5 lbs. The rest are hard to venture a guess without knowing how big of a guy you are.
  5. Not sure if this is the correct spot to post this but found this article very disturbing. Fish of many species in Great Lakes dying off due to it. Didn't see it posted anywhere else. "When thousands of bloody, hemorrhaging fish recently turned up on the Lake Michigan shore south of Milwaukee, it confirmed the worst fears of scientists worried that an Ebola-like virus stalking Great Lakes fish would strike closer to Chicago. The dead fish were round gobies, a small invasive species that many feel is better off dead. But unlike many other diseases that tend to hit one or two types of fish, this viral strain has led to large fish kills involving more than 30 species, including valuable sport fish such as salmon, trout, walleye, muskie, bass and perch." http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-fish-virus_19jun19%2C0%2C2787155.story
  6. Never thought that much about it but then I go fishing when I get the urge AND have the time. Googled and found this article: the experts here can tell you if it's accurate. http://www.quickoneplus.com/fish/articles/page.asp?page=barometric
  7. Respectfully I call BS on that sir. NOTHING has as many uses as duct tape.................NOTHING. Duct tape can be used in beauty pagents (to hold stuff in place), home repair, car repair, medical emergencies for rednecks like me, dating, etc...... Duct tape > fishing scale.
  8. Nice fish; tell your bud congrats!
  9. That young man is now hooked (pardon the pun). Go buy him a decent rod/reel and a little tackle box; he'll treasure both and leave yours alone unless he's pilfering some stuff.
  10. Awww.......... Actually I cropped it because I was unsure of how big a picture we were allowed to post. The fish was probably still depleted after spawning and not yet back up to it's 'fighting weight'. Thanks for reviewing it though.
  11. Roger that.........just gotta catch another one. 8-)
  12. Well, I reposted the uncropped picture since to give you guys a look at my mug as well as the bass in question to address the scale issue. Mattlures disagrees with my measuring and I respect his opinion; I measured myself from right about the center of my collarbones (just below in fact) and down to the tops of my thighs or at bottom of groin. This is where the fish scales to and that comes out to be just under 24". So the measurement might be off an inch at most and is most certainly NOT a guess. In regard to the tell tale hand; I do have big hands for my size; not banana hands but there above average. You can tell that my hand would EASILY fit into this girl's mouth. I thank all of you for posting and guessing.
  13. Is that the 4lb 3 oz fish you think my fish weighs less than? :-? I'm guessing my fish is a SOLID 3 inches longer and just as thick looking. No offense bud; that fish you posted is about 19-20 inches long and yeah about 4 lbs AND smaller than the fish I posted. What do I think my fish weighs? I guess I'm taking into account that the photo is to scale so fish is actually 23+ inches (not held out to the camera to appear bigger) and venturing a guess on some of the lunkers posted here that are of equal size or smaller, 6+ pounds. Keep em coming; this really is entertaining. 8-)
  14. Had to wait til I got home to open this thread up; I don't think I could explain how going into a thread titled "Ever do this" started by someone with the handle "Low_Budget_Hooker" was a smart thing to do at work. IRT topic; ouchie. No I've never done that.
  15. lmao....well played sir. Judging from the pictures I've seen on the site so far, I'm beginning to see that I did indeed err by not doing so. Guess it's just assumed all people do it so it does affect people's estimation when someone actually post a picture with something to scale it next to. Mine may be one of the only ones here without 'foreshortening'. Oh well, I'll know better next time.
  16. This fish is no where near 24 inches. Agreed. As I said I'm 6'1" tall and from the sole of my foot to the top of my knee is 20.5 inches and unless Gannoli is 6' 5" his lower leg isn't 24" either.
  17. No disrespect intended but that fish is no where near 24" nor as big as mine. Again, I am not offended by people's guesses cause they really are entertaining. ;D
  18. lol 24" and 2.5 lbs............please allow me to introduce the first LMB Calvin Klein model. It eats a ton of shad but throws it up about 20 minutes later. So.......how much does the fish in your avatar weigh?
  19. Wow; you mean men sometimes think something of theirs is bigger than it actually is?!!! GET OUT OF TOWN! : Of course the flip side of that is that when it comes to someone else's 'something' it's usually thought of as smaller than it actually is.
  20. Being originally from Pennsylvania, I know (regardless of the weight) that is one fine bass for the North. Great catch buddy.
  21. Nice catch for the young lady. As a father who fishes with his girls, I know I'd be proud of her. Good job filming too.
  22. ;D It is there if you look closely; the fish flared the top of it's tail to the left side of it's body.
  23. No offense taken bud. 8-) Trust me when I say (and it's seems likely that most men would feel this way) I had my mind made up before I made the post and was just feeling out the community. 25+ years of LMB fishing and that scale Paul Robert's was kind enough to post has been my rule of thumb. 12" = 1 pound 16" = 2 pounds etc...... I will say I'd trade my LMB in for a SMB (they are SMB aren't they?) half the size of the ones you got there. Fight would be twice as good IMO. Cheers.
  24. Years ago (I was a teenager) when my brothers and I were fishing at night under a moonless sky, I had my jitterbug on. We didn't have a lantern or anything other than a small flashlight that we only turned on when a fish was being landed or retying a lure on. So anyway, after several casts I got hung up on some weeds and gave a mighty pull. I felt it free up then heard a whistle that got louder and louder. Just then something slammed into my right cheek and the right side of my face went numb for a couple seconds. I realized what happened and began feeling around for my line to track down where my jitterbug went. I gave a small tug on the line and no lie, my lip twitched. Luckily the barb of the treble hook didn't go in all the way so we were able to get it out relatively easy but I did learn a valuable lesson that night. 8-)
